    Thanks for mentioning me
    It's called a open deck design and it's a saw tooth cut in between cylinders and cylinders walk and allow coolant to leak into the cylinder
    1.5L 1.6L and 2.0L ecoboost of certain generations all have the intrusion problem
    1.6L and 2.0L Get complete long blocks and the 1.5L Ecoboost gets a shortblock rebuild

      Ford Boss Me is correct. The repair under warranty if coolant intrusion is found on the 1.6 was to replace the engine. This was stated in the coolant pressure testing section of the WSM. That was changed in late 2019 early 2020. Engineering found that most failure's was cause by short block or head gaskets if I remember correctly.

  • @CH-wm6wo
    @CH-wm6wo Год назад +3

    Had the 1.5 in a 2018 escape. At 95,000 miles it developed a coolant intrusion problem. Replaced the head gasket and it was fine. Probably still running. It’s a shame that literally one poor engineering choice could have such an impact.Most fail because of block design with the grooved deck not providing enough head gasket support. After designing and building engines for over a hundred years making a head gasket seal long term shouldn’t be an issue for Ford .I had no block cracking and I suspect most don’t. Everything else on the vehicle and engine was trouble free. While 95,000 miles isn’t great service life, if you’re handy with tools, I imagine you could pick up some pretty good bargains on a Ford vehicle with this problem for the price of a head gasket.

Nissans eat their CVT trannies, whilst the Subarus and Focus are not much better. Subes also do a number on their heads. Don't get me started on the German stuff, particularly VW. The number of reliable manufacturers is getting smaller. Lexus/Toyota/Honda ? Hyundai /Kia ?

Additionally the engine was burning over a quart of oil between changes. Also didn’t want to have to pay to do timing belt when the engine might have to soon be replaced.

    We had a 2015 Fusion SE that had the 2.5l engine and it was junk! 22k miles it had a cracked cylinder head in 3 places. Ford towed to dealer fixed under warranty then we got it back 3 weeks later. Drove it until we hit about 50k and misfires again. This time replaced the Ignition coild, Injectors and plugs and still no fix. It was a random misfire and I never did diagnose what it was, but I suspected another cracked head or gasket issue and traded it for a Camry SE I told the dealer about the issue and they traded anyway. I checked back later and the salesman said they had it in the Ford dealership they also owned getting it fixed whatever it was. The 2020 Camry SE has been great we have not had any issues. What gets me is the 2.5 engine was supposed to be good. I looked up and found multiple reports of cracked heads on them in the 2015 year range. Turns out Ford had a 3rd party make the heads and did not make them to spec. Cost Ford a future customer in me because I am done with Ford. I will have to see major improvement in their quality control before I ever consider them again. By the way Ford CEO admitted and said they had serious quality control problems that will take years to correct. That was a bright move for him to basically tell people we got Quality problems so why not buy a Ford. I applaud his honesty, but why would I risk my hard earned money on something that might be very costly down the road? I will roll the dice with a Toyota anyday compared to Ford the way it is right now. I still like some of their models and might buy an older Grand Marquis or Lincoln Grandma car for a hwy cruiser, but nothing modern.

    From a consumer prospective. At this time. I prefer timing belts. These manufacturers and cheap plastic components in timing chain set's. Makes absolutely no sense. Also, let's be honest. The cost of doing timing chain repair today isn't like a sbc, or old 302 or something like it. I'd rather have something that sure I know has to be part of the maintenance of a vehicle. Rather than something randomly braking in a chain setup. This actually drove my buying decision a year ago for my wife car. Had to replace a 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 with a 15 Acura RDX 3.5

    I think GM's 3400 was just a limited production test engine. Limited as in, it didn't see anywhere near the numbers of the 3100. Although I acknowledge that there are many many 3400s out there still functioning today. But it did in some ways lead to the development of the GM High feature engine. The best of which reached 100 horsepower per liter. One of my personal vehicles has the 3600, 302 horsepower. Not too bad for a high revving (7000 RPM) V6 that has enough bottom and torque to make me feel satisfied while driving. And the 3600 saw explosive numbers in sales as they were in nearly every single mid-range and up GM vehicle. While the 3400 can't compare to the HF V6, it's still a GM 60° V6. it all started in with the LE2

    So I’m sort of unclear at this point in the video. What years for the 1.5 suck? 2017 fusion here. I’ve noticed some quirks to this engine for sure after only 8k miles. Engine is incredibly sensitive to fluids. Reminds me of late 2000s tuner turbo builds. Engine runs like a diesel basically. And these engines hate to be driven by grandmas. But frequent coolant changes and 5000 mile oil changes to keep the turbo happy seem to be the regimen. This engine is not up to modern car standards for ownership on service intervals. Also seems to be the smart move to do timing belts early at like 50k so as to inspect everything else really. Especially the carbon buildup as leak down issues would be a nightmare to diagnose on this.

    I bought a 2019 Fusion 1.5 Ecoboost not having any knowledge of how much of a POS this motor is ...the coolant galleys around the two outside cylinders are fine but between the two middle cylinders coolant galleys hardly exist...those two middle cylinders run hot as hell. The need arose to change plugs, the #1 and # 4 came out fine no problem. The # 2 spark plug after much cursing and pb blaster finally came out, but the #3 sparkplug was virtually welded into the head...the thread sleeve of the spark plug sheared right off the spark plug electrode...the plug came out minus the threads...the thread sleeve remained in the head ...I could not believe Ford would wilfully, knowingly, design, build and market and engine that would self destruct at 106,000 miles...it had 90,000 on it when I bought it. It would have cost over $ 6500 to pull the head to fix that plug. But despite changing out the plug the real problem can't be fixed, that block was designed to self destruct, .it was not just the 1.5 either a slew of those blocks between 2015-2020 were just as bad .SOL had run out on the engine replacement for that car...so I got completely screwed on that car....Ford obviously has Nazi Communist leanings...Ford built tanks for Hitler during WW 2 these corporations have absolutely no moral principles so when shit hits the fan they'll be dealt with at the hands of criminals with no moral principles as well ...these corporations in this country have become political monsters and deserve every bit of what's coming their way...
