It would help us to be more reverent if Communion rail is brought , so that people who need help getting up can do so with the support of railing.
This would encourage receiving on tongue also
Thank you, Jesus. I love You.♥️

Would love to be able to receive on my knees but would not be able to get up without help! Would love the alter rail to come back.. I have been in churches that have a kneeler in the center of the aisle for those who desire to receive on their knees. This makes me happy when I am able to receive on my knees.

I agree, a number of more elderly members of my church expressed a desire to receive communion on their knees. But they cannot due to ailments. We have the rails…why not use them?

In my parish both the priest and the deacon stand behind a sturdy kneeler so we can receive either way.
I’m 77 and always found it awkward to receive on the tongue when I was young and when we were permitted to receive in the hand I was so happy because it was very meaningful for me. I always go to daily Mass when I can.
But several years ago I would sometimes feel that Jesus was asking me to receive on the tongue. I would tell him I knew He approved of receiving in the hands because it is permitted by the church. It seemed he agreed but that wasn’t what He wanted me to do. I found it embarrassing but finally I gave in. So now it seems normal to me. I don’t think badly of anyone who does it either way or feel they are disrespectful or wrong. But it’s good to ask Jesus what He wants for each of us personally. The main thing is to do it reverently. And if you receive in the hand consume It in front of the priest before turning and walking away.

    Great message Father !
I made up my mind a long time ago - to only receive Our Lord on my knees and on my tongue.
Even if I’m the only one to do that at the Mass.
All parishes need to install or re-enstall Communion Rails.

I fully support your desire to receive on the tongue; your comment seeking the reinstatement ofCommunion rails would seem to imply that you disagree with reception in the hand - something which goes back to the early Church. Hopefully you will give the same respect which should be given to you.

The communion rails makes it both easier and faster for both the priest and the communicate. If you wish to receive Christ's body in your hand you can still do that at a communion rail.

    Bless you, Father.
I was raised Catholic, having no memory of receiving on the tongue. I even became an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. However, once I learned of the origins of Communion in the hand (originally seen as an abuse), & how the indult permitting it may have been wrongly acquired, plus Pope Benedict's pronouncement that kneeling & on-the-tongue was the Ordinary Means, I resigned from being an EMHC & strove to only receive kneeling & on-the-tongue. The infanous 2019 Pew Research study followed soon thereafter. It makes sense that how we worship affects how we believe, & how we live. "Lex orendi, lex credendi, lex vivendi."

I only receive communion on the tongue and kneeling from the hands of an ordained priest or deacon…the idea is the show the highest form of reverence in the presence of the ultimate transcendence…GOD… not the least.
Even practically, receiving from hand to hand created more opportunities for the sacramental Christ in the boat or be defiled or even fall on the floor. When I began to kneel and receive on the tongue, the power of host for me has been increased along with my consciousness of the centrality of the Eucharistic Christ to my faith.
Pope Benedict XVI would only administer the Eucharistic Christ to a communicant who was kneeling and receiving on the tongue. He knew. God bless his soul. 🙏✝️

I'm 69 and for the last 4 or 5 years, I've been receiving the Holy Eucharist on the tongue. I'm preparing as I get older- the Sacrament of Penance. There was a time when we were told to at least go to Confession at Easter and Christmas. We all need to prepare , for we know not the time, nor day nor what happens to us. Priests need to encourage people to attend Confession.

I also receive only on the tongue. I would love to kneel but I can't without support. We need to return to the days before Vatican II. So much irreverence since that time has harmed the faithful. Confession was often offered before Mass, because they recognized the need to receive worthily.

If only we would come back to the reverence and respect in our churches. We have lost so much over the last forty years. Women wearing head covering, genuflecting properly, not talking in church, fasting and saying prayers in preparation before mass, thanksgiving prayers after mass. Concentrating on what we are about to receive at communion. I personally hate to touch the eucharist, the precious bod and blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. And not to forget regular visits for the sacrament of reconciliation. What a great gift this priest is to the church of God. God bless you all from the UK 🇬🇧 🙏🙏🙏

Personally when I receive the Eucharist in my hand I imagine reaching out to Jesus as did many who walked with Him and reached out to touch Him, or being at the Last Supper and receiving as the bread and wine were passed among those attending or the Pieta comes to mind...Mary tenderly holding the Son of God and myself thanking Him for His sacrifice. I believe Father, Son and Holy Spirit are okay with this and I am glad the Church allows both.

I believe Protestants admired us for the beautiful Catholic Mass of long ago. Today, it's like the Protestants. After Mass, the people are talking as they leave or arrive. You come in and bless yourself with holy water and keep your hands folded, then genuflect before entering the pew. Some walk in like they're attending a movie and sit down in the pew, sometimes chewing gum.

Well, now let's throw a wrench in this. If the priest who could read the future, know the past, had the stigmata, and could bi-locate refused to say the Novus Order Mass why not just go to a traditional Latin Mass where none of those abuses are. What is the fright about? Why do so many people hate it? According to our Lady of Fatima, it is the great apostasy. St Padre Pio, pray for us.

    • @RealSeanithan

Now, I don't think Padre Pio would have liked the Novus Ordo as well, but I'm fairly certain he never refused it, given that he died September 23, 1968, and Paul VI didn't approbate the Novus Ordo Missae until November 6, 1968. Whether or not he would have refused, he didn't exactly have that opportunity.

Fr. Rob spoke of not receiving Communion in our unconsecrated hands. Are our tongues consecrated? Kneeling is a penitential posture, while standing denotes joy and respect. Bishops in the middle ages banned kneeling in Mass, especially during the Easter season, because of that. But most importantly, we must all have the same posture, as guided by the GIRM. If Jesus knows what is in our hearts, does our posture make a difference? Peace, all.

Standing is the preferred posture as noted by the American bishops (though kneeling is acceptable), and reception on either the tongue or in the hand are both canonically acceptable and have plenty of historical precedent. It'd be great if priests stopped trying to bind consciences and make up laws and restrictions where the church and the hierarchy haven't done so. The only exception is the old rite that's governed by its own legislation, but it doesn't apply to either the Ordinariate or the broader church following the current rite.

  • @JohnTwoFive

Both ways of receiving Jesus worthily are valid since V2 because His Church said so and the Holy Spirit doesn't make mistakes through His one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Jesus did say we are each to examine our conscience and can do this with the helpful spiritual direction we receive in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Helpful reminders would probably include not to keep looking back and making false gods out of anything or anyone. We're yoked to Christ Who helps us and Who along with the Father and Holy Spirit we are to trust. We are told to pick up our cross every day, not to worry, and to trust Him so that means Him and what He tells His Church to decree on earth, since these decrees originate from Him and so are honored in Heaven. We who are members should be reminded of this and
remain obedient. Too, thanks be to Jesus Christ there is spiritual communion that He has made available to us through the technology that He has allowed mankind to develop. That said, my understanding is that a person can say this prayer anytime, like the Act of Contrition. That is something that would be wonderful to address and make clear, as it seems to correspond with the desire to be Baptized, and with the mission Jesus gave to His Church. (Matthew 16; 28)

At the Last Supper, Jesus instituted the priesthood - He made his apostles bishops - before passing His Body and Blood to them. Their hands were consecrated!
Also, prior to Vatican 2, a baby’s tongue was consecrated at baptism- in preparation for receiving Eucharist on the tongue. To this day, Church teaching holds reception of communion on the hand as a “tolerated abuse.”

The Roman Catholic Church should get rid of all Eucharistic Ministers, only priests have consecrated fingers to touch the host I’d wait 3 days if needed to receive from only the priest, and like everyone else said put the altar rails back in things would change quickly in belief in the real presence Our Lord is in the Eucharist look at the million Eucharistic miracles the church has had and bring back the patten with an altar boy catching particles or even a host of a mistake happens

I'm all for kneeling and receiving on the tongue, but I am also subject to and obedient to the Magesterium. If the Magisterium says that I can stand and receive in the hand then I should not be characterized as irreverant.

Well said. Communion on the hand was also the norm for the first 700-800 years of the church and onwards. I generally receive on the tongue unless ill but this is something prudential and there is nothing intrinsically wrong with receiving on the hand. If we hold Communion on the hand as intrinsically wrong we'd be condemning all the Apostles and church fathers.

My friends, Jesus physically Sacrificed Himself once for all time on that Cross (Romans 6:10). He is not called down from Heaven to be physically sacrificed again and again and again. Jesus is not a piece of Bread and He’s not a cup of Wine.
In (John 10:9-10) Jesus said “I am the door”. Was Jesus saying He was an actual door? Of course not. Jesus spoke in many Metaphors and when He said “This is my Body”, it was another Metaphor. Jesus said “This is my Blood” but then called it the “Fruit of the Vine”. It was clearly not His actual Blood and the Bread clearly not His Body.
(Leviticus 17:14) The Lord said through Moses that we are forbidden to eat the Blood of “ANY Creature.” Human beings are Creatures. To Drink the Blood of Jesus would be blatant Disobedience to the Lord Himself! It’s time to mature in the Knowledge of the Lord by understanding Scripture to make sure you are Honoring Jesus instead of Insulting Him. By the way, Jesus never once told anyone that His Mother or her Mother was Sinless or that she was going to ascended Heaven while she was alive or that we are to ever pray to her, neither did any Apostle. Scripture tells us that Jesus is the only way to be redeemed to the Father and says nothing about us needing a “Mediatrix”. I urge you to put your Trust in Scriptural Facts rather than The imaginations and Assumptions of any Church.
The Scripture says only Jesus was sinless and that we are to pray only the Father in Heaven and Jesus’ Name. In (Romans 10:9) Apostle Paul said “If you confess Jesus is Lord, and believe in your Heart that God raised Him from the Dead, you WILL be Saved.” Any stipulations of further requirements or anything other than what Paul said is required, is not of God. Fruit of the Spirit will always accompany one who is Saved. Jesus said “you will know them by their fruits.” ( Mathew 7:16)

Don’t know about receiving communion on the tongue Reverend. If you read the Church Fathers, it is beyond a doubt that early Christians received Communion in the hand. Christ did not say, “Here, let me put this on your tongue...” Apart from scripture, many other references are recorded in antiquity. The Early Church Fathers provide some insights into how the early Christians received the Holy Eucharist. Here are a few examples:
St. Cyril of Jerusalem (313-386): In his Catechetical Lectures, St. Cyril described the manner of receiving the Eucharist in Jerusalem. He instructed the faithful to approach with their hands formed in the shape of a cross, receive the Eucharist in their hands, and then consume it. He emphasized the reverence and care with which one should handle the Eucharist, saying, "Approaching, therefore, come not with thy wrists extended, or thy fingers spread; but make thy left hand a throne for the right, as for that which is to receive a King."
St. Ambrose of Milan (337-397): St. Ambrose wrote about the practice of receiving the Eucharist. He considered it a sign of humility and submission, stating, "You receive the Sacrament with the hollow of your hand, and take it with your mouth, your hand thus serving as a paten." He believed that receiving on the tongue was a fitting way to approach the sacredness of the Eucharist.
St. Basil the Great: St. Basil the Great, an influential theologian of the fourth century, discusses the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in his work titled "On the Holy Spirit." He writes, "When you go to receive Communion, approach with your right hand open and extended, making your palm a throne for the King, and receive the body of Christ, saying, 'Amen.'"
Tertullian: Tertullian, an early Christian writer from the second and third centuries, mentions the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in his work titled "On Prayer." He writes, "The flesh is nourished with the body and blood of Christ...the hand receives the Eucharist, and the mouth is filled."
St. John Chrysostom: St. John Chrysostom, a prominent theologian and bishop of the fourth century, references the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in his homilies. In one of his homilies, he states, "When you approach to receive Communion, place your hand beneath your other hand, and receive the body of Christ, saying, 'Amen.'"
St. Cyril of Alexandria: St. Cyril of Alexandria, a prominent theologian and bishop of the fifth century, discusses the practice of receiving Communion in-the-hand in his work titled "Commentary on Luke." He explains, "Approaching, therefore, do not come with your hands extended or with your fingers apart, but making your left hand a throne for the right, which is to receive the King, and in the hollow of the palm receive the body of Christ, saying, 'Amen.'"
Apostolic Tradition of Hippolytus: The Apostolic Tradition of Hippolytus, a third-century liturgical text attributed to Hippolytus of Rome, provides instructions for the Eucharistic celebration. It states, "The faithful shall receive the offering after the presbyters from the bishop or the deacon. And they shall take it with reverence, giving thanks to God, and shall hold it in their hands, and shall say, 'Amen.'"
St. Ephrem the Syrian: St. Ephrem the Syrian, a theologian and hymnographer from the fourth century, mentions the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in one of his hymns. He writes, "I saw the Lord giving the disciples his body and his blood in their hands."
St. John Damascene: St. John Damascene, a theologian and hymnographer from the eighth century, discusses the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in his work titled "Exposition of the Orthodox Faith." He writes, "When you approach to receive Communion, make of your left hand a throne for the right, which is to receive the King."
St. Augustine: St. Augustine, a renowned theologian and bishop of the fourth and fifth centuries, mentions the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in his work titled "Sermons on the New Testament." In one of his sermons, he states, "You are to approach [the Eucharist] with open mouth, holy hands, and attentive heart."
St. Gregory of Nyssa: St. Gregory of Nyssa, a prominent theologian and bishop of the fourth century, references the practice of receiving Communion in the hand in his work titled "On the Baptism of Christ." He writes, "He who mystically represents the hand of Christ receives the body of Christ."
St. Jerome: St. Jerome, a theologian and biblical scholar of the fourth and fifth centuries, comments on the practice of receiving Communion in his work titled "Commentary on Matthew." He writes, "When you approach to receive the body of the Lord, respond 'Amen' to the priest, and with your right hand receive the sacred body."
These examples highlight the historical evidence and understanding of the early Christian practice of receiving Communion in the hand. They demonstrate that the faithful would approach the Eucharist with reverence, open hands, and a heartfelt response of faith.
If people wish to receive on the tongue, then they should wait until the end of the communion line and receive then. Communion on the tongue exposes the minister’s hand to the communicant’s bodily aerosol and/or fluids, increasing the possibility of viral infection. The minister should sanitize their hands before and after distributing communion on the tongue. Communion on the tongue should not be given in areas with very high spikes in local infections (eg. cold and flu outbreaks).

The main reason transubstantiation should be rejected is that it is seen by the Roman Catholic Church as a "repetition of the sacrifice" of Jesus Christ for our sins, or a "repossession / re-presentation" of His sacrifice. This is in direct contradiction to what the Scriptures say, that Jesus died "once and for all" and that he does not need to be sacrificed again (Hebrews 10:10, 1 Peter 3:18). Hebrews 7:27 states: “He [Jesus] does not need like the other high priests to offer daily sacrifices, first for his own sins, then for those of the people, for he has performed this service ONCE. for all by offering himself as a sacrifice. Ok. It’s clear you know nothing or you interpret what you want in order of your interests. Jesus did not order Bishops; the communion was in the hand (like first centuries practice of the church witnessed) and the tongue is not more holy than any part of your hand. That is not historically correct and is histerically repeated. Look at the 23 rites and 3 uses of the church… The tongue is a practice officially used for Rome and Europe in the 13th century…. A communion with a piece of unleaven bread in your mouth without any other intervention of any movement of your mouth or anything else would be a funny thing to see. It was a piece of that bread eaten by pieces like in the usual manner of Middle East. It’s all a radicalization of costumes of different eras… both are valid ways and no one is historically more holy. The historically correct is the hands and with bread.

Where in the Bible does it say Jesus broke the bread ...gave it to His disciples and said "get down on your knees and stick out your tongue"? Jesus said "TAKE this all of you and eat it". I'm all for respect but really let's get real on this subject. Jesus was sitting at the dinner table with His disciples eating supper and so happened to take this moment to teach them of what was to come as He always had done. I love being able to embrace God and to touch Him for myself and to feel His presence and believe. Do what you like but personally out of respect....I never liked sticking my tongue out at Him.

I have witnessed people walk out of Church with the Consecrated Host in their hands! I have sat at Mass to hear the priest say, "if I see anyone walk away and not consume Our Lord, I will personally jump over this rail and come after you."
Several people saw a Host laying in the Church parking lot!! My family member watched a lay distributor spill the Precious Blood while handing it to one who came to receive it!! And the priest did NOTHING about it! Yes, NOTHING! My niece wiped up the Precious Blood from the floor and went back into the Sacristy to give to the priest who said Mass. She told him what happened and he said "what do you want me to do with it?" She then, while in disbelief, drove 35 min to an FSSP parish and told the priest there what had happened. Angered, at what he had heard, he took the handkerchief with the blood on it and disposed of it accordingly. This and so many other stories like this is extremely disturbing, to say the least! Receiving the Holy communion on tongue is reverence to our Lord Jesus Christ.Jesus is the King of kings Lord of lords creator of heaven and earth our savior. In Eucharist Jesus is alive body, soul, humanity and Divinity. He is our spritual food bread of life.Receiving Jesus in hand is lack of faith and not knowing Him.Those who kneel down and receive Him on tongue are true disciples of christ and children of God.What we do in Mass is just triumphant church unites miltant church on earth praying for the whole world and souls in purgatory.
