Communion on the Tongue has been under attack for a long time. The COVID crisis provided an opportunity for most of the bishops to implement a ban on communion on the tongue and mandate in the hand reception for “safety reasons.” I remember the look of fear in the priest’s eyes when I tried to receive communion on the tongue. Eventually, he did give me communion on the tongue. As the COVID crisis lingered on, the parish began to allow communon on the tongue only from the priest. One thing I loved about this was that I had an excuse to avoid the eucharistic minister and go directly to the priest. After the COVID crisis ended the parish allowed communion on the tongue. However, the damage has been done. Almost everyone today receives communion in the hand. There are some rare exceptions where someone will receive communion on the tongue. The bishops instilled fear that somehow receiving Our Lord on the tongue is somehow dangerous because if the priest’s hands touch the tongue and gets saliva on it then the next person stands to be contaminated. The good Archibishop Sample of Portland commissioned an independent study which showed that communion on the tongue does not pose a danger. In fact communion on the hand is more dangerous because we use our hands for everything. No matter how much hand sanitizer is used, the hand is not sanitary. We are receiving Jesus truly present in the holy eucharist. How could Jesus cause us to become sick? This idea is from the lack of faith of our bishops. The use of eucharistic ministers is an on going and disgraceful abuse in our Church today. It is a joke that the title is actually extraordinary minister or holy communion but I do not use the word extraordinary because these ministers are not extraordinary but rather ordinary as they are a permanent function at every mass. Extraordinary is an unusual event out of the ordinary.

What Scriptures is he quoting? 'God brings good from evil...but we should not do evil that good would come from it'.

I have problems with my knees but I receive it in my tongue. I wish we could go back where we have kneelings in fron of the altar and we can kneel, that is the right and only respectful way to receive Jesus and his blood. Catholic churches needs more spiritual and brave Priests that preach the true and defend the churchc at any cost. We need to keep praying for saints Priests and for Blessed Mary protection over them 🙏 🙌

Interesting that when Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the last supper, he blessed, broke and HANDED his body to the apostles who took it reverently by hand and ate. Can we not be as reverent receiving by hand?

Thank you Fr. Kirk, I listen to your sermons and I'm in Texas. I love your straightforward, unabashed truth. We don't hear enough truth in our Church today.

The possibility of particles falling to the ground to be stepped on should be a concern. The fact that it seems not to be shows us a serious problem with modernist thinking.

Fr. Rob spoke of not receiving Communion in our unconsecrated hands. Are our tongues consecrated? Kneeling is a penitential posture, while standing denotes joy and respect. Bishops in the middle ages banned kneeling in Mass, especially during the Easter season, because of that. But most importantly, we must all have the same posture, as guided by the GIRM. If Jesus knows what is in our hearts, does our posture make a difference? Peace, all.

Standing is the preferred posture as noted by the American bishops (though kneeling is acceptable), and reception on either the tongue or in the hand are both canonically acceptable and have plenty of historical precedent. It'd be great if priests stopped trying to bind consciences and make up laws and restrictions where the church and the hierarchy haven't done so. The only exception is the old rite that's governed by its own legislation, but it doesn't apply to either the Ordinariate or the broader church following the current rite.

Ok. It’s clear you know nothing or you interpret what you want in order of your interests. Jesus did not order Bishops; the communion was in the hand (like first centuries practice of the church witnessed) and the tongue is not more holy than any part of your hand. That is not historically correct and is histerically repeated. Look at the 23 rites and 3 uses of the church… The tongue is a practice officially used for Rome and Europe in the 13th century…. A communion with a piece of unleaven bread in your mouth without any other intervention of any movement of your mouth or anything else would be a funny thing to see. It was a piece of that bread eaten by pieces like in the usual manner of Middle East. It’s all a radicalization of costumes of different eras… both are valid ways and no one is historically more holy. The historically correct is the hands and with bread.

My goodness, I'm so so glad I made it out of religion when I see videos like this. The way he speaks about non-Christians is disgusting. I'm not a Christian, so this man says I'm a demon, that I'll be vanquished, my blood will be spilled for God, and that we're in some massive battle of some sort. Gross, immature, and hateful. It's no wonder that the phrase "There's no hate quite like 'Christian love'" is so ubiquitous.
