Thank you for posting this. I'm 65 and thinking of revisiting some of my epic moments in life. As VP of SRJC ski club in mid 80's and a coworker with a Truckee cabin in the 90's. Squaw "Like we care" was always 1st choice. Red Dog to Heidi's to Oly Lady across to the Chute, down to the Express up to Hogs Back, down to Siberia across the Chute, through the trees of Gold Coast, down to Emigrant, up to the Funnel, down to Granite Chief and a day of turns and burns in Solitude and Shirley Lakes with pit stops at High Camp. Working in SF/bay area and still got a hundred days in. Glory days. Alas, this video also, reminded me of the risks. I thank you for that. So I'll dust off my old equipment and find my old swag, to enjoy one more run at my favorite place on earth.

@@scottgaffney7879 Throughout the extreme skiing videos I've watched, there is primary focus on snow quality, avalanche and visible hazards. The only less vidible hazard I've heard mention is the bergstrom- which I only learned from Cody Townsend's last video with Bjarne. I dont recall ever hearing a discussion of hidden ski-eating rocks.
So yes, this is valuable and a positive addition though I'm sorry it came from suffering.

      @@sba4636 Bergschrund.
Cody is doing a different kind of skiing in his video series - He wouldn't risk something as steep and sharky as Eagles Nest when working that deep in the backcountry, and powder as unconsolidated as Scott skied here would probably present an unacceptable avy risk.
Cody has almost certainly skied this line many times, though (Scott would know for sure, but Palisades is Cody's home mountain). Scott produced most of the ski movies that Cody starred in before he started doing the 50 BTW.
Best wishes for a quick recovery, Scott.

Glad you made it out ok, things can go wrong so quickly. I had a crash at Blackcomb that forced me to slow down due to injuries that started out pretty similar to this, making a cut to get to a safer side of the cliff band since there was another cliff under it. I ended up clipping a rock near the edge of the first cliff and had to make a decision of carving again and possibly clipping another rock which would have resulted in a crash just like this one or speed up and try to gap the cliff directly below. I chose option two and sadly I ended up one foot short landing on a rock which knocked me out instantly sending me tumbling off the next cliff....... I woke up at the bottom of the cliff with a torn disc and my achilleas tendon on fire, tail of my snowboard was gone but happy to be alive. Ha i rode down just like you, was happy I had tinted lenses because I was 100% in tears.

Collapsed lung and an mandatory ambulance ride AFTER skiing down has got to be a world record for GNAR points.

I got down under my own power but I couldn't really call it "skiing." Traverse to a turn, traverse to a turn...

@@scottgaffney7879 I did a 25 foot cliff drop and landed with my right foot on a rock hidden under 1" of snow. I didn't want to ride down on a Rescue toboggan, so I skied down on one foot. So I get really wanting to avoid that ride.

@@stevejohnson2052 I think I'd get more GNAR points for when I ruptured my patellar tendon and blew my ACL, MCL, MPF ligament and meniscus. It was a pow day and I knew a sled would take a while, so I had the first patroller on scene take my one ski while I skied down on the other. Maybe not the smartest thing, but I knew I was very messed up and didn't want to waste time getting out of there.

Late reply here, but I've had enough knee injuries that I want my skis to release when the time is right. So I'm 160 lbs and run a DIN around 12.
