The technical analysis of how you ski the nest is incredible. So few understand how important it is to intimately study your line on such extreme terrain
Thank you for posting this. I'm 65 and thinking of revisiting some of my epic moments in life. As VP of SRJC ski club in mid 80's and a coworker with a Truckee cabin in the 90's. Squaw "Like we care" was always 1st choice. Red Dog to Heidi's to Oly Lady across to the Chute, down to the Express up to Hogs Back, down to Siberia across the Chute, through the trees of Gold Coast, down to Emigrant, up to the Funnel, down to Granite Chief and a day of turns and burns in Solitude and Shirley Lakes with pit stops at High Camp. Working in SF/bay area and still got a hundred days in. Glory days. Alas, this video also, reminded me of the risks. I thank you for that. So I'll dust off my old equipment and find my old swag, to enjoy one more run at my favorite place on earth.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. My son is 5 and I need to find a way to express to him how things can go badly in an instant but not to the point where he stops doing something he loves.
That was gnar! This video is super valuable for helping other skiers better understand some potential risks and how to navigate more mindfully, so I thank you! Hope you heal up well and are back out soon
@@scottgaffney7879 Throughout the extreme skiing videos I've watched, there is primary focus on snow quality, avalanche and visible hazards. The only less vidible hazard I've heard mention is the bergstrom- which I only learned from Cody Townsend's last video with Bjarne. I dont recall ever hearing a discussion of hidden ski-eating rocks. So yes, this is valuable and a positive addition though I'm sorry it came from suffering.
@@sba4636 Bergschrund. Glad you made it out ok, things can go wrong so quickly. I had a crash at Blackcomb that forced me to slow down due to injuries that started out pretty similar to this, making a cut to get to a safer side of the cliff band since there was another cliff under it. I ended up clipping a rock near the edge of the first cliff and had to make a decision of carving again and possibly clipping another rock which would have resulted in a crash just like this one or speed up and try to gap the cliff directly below. I chose option two and sadly I ended up one foot short landing on a rock which knocked me out instantly sending me tumbling off the next cliff....... I woke up at the bottom of the cliff with a torn disc and my achilleas tendon on fire, tail of my snowboard was gone but happy to be alive.
