- A lackluster boss fight, but a great story. He fought for so much, but achieved so little.

Siegward kills himself, drops his set and Fckin Emma Teleports me away
same happened to me lol!
Emma? Who is this? Is that an old lady you ki.. you meet in Lothric? Strange, she didnt teleport me anywhere =)
She teleports you when you have defeated the last lord of cinder =)
kill aldrich after yhorm
You have to kill 3 lords before she teleports you
"Rarely do the Giants of dark souls have happy fates"
Rarely does anyone have a happy fate in dark souls
Excuse you, I got a wife and a Lordship at the end of Dark Souls III And if that's not a happy ending I don't want one.
😂😂😂 ikr?
Angriest Gabu not true princess dusk had a fairly good end she was saved by her knight in shiny armour after all
Angriest Gabu anri (depending on what you did) and siegward after you complete his quest
Angriest Gabu Still a more happy world than Bloodborne
I think it's a possibility that if Siegward committed suicide, a fitting end would be poison in his toast to his friend. He takes a nap like always...thinking of his friend, duty fullfilled.....only he doesn't wake. His final toast.
Could also be him killing himself with the Storm Ruler. Ending his life with the same blade he used to end his friend's.
that thing cant kill shitt
You toast with Siegward throughout the game, it's one of his trademarks. Just from a player's/writer's perspective, a final toast suicide makes the most sense in his storytelling.
Saturn Ascension Siegward doesn't seem like the suicidal type to me. I always thought he returned to Catarina, before this video anyway... How sad. I would've liked that ending much more. Well, that's Dark Souls for you, RIP Siegward.
Wyatt Hiebert I agree, but we can only speculate. I was just mentioning IF he were to kill himself this would be the way to go about it.
Me: "This onion won't make me cry!"
Onion: "Yhorm... old friend..."
Me: *crying*
Hail to Yhorm the lonely ruler.
On my playthrough I cried because Yhorm started cutting onions when I went to get the storm sword.
😂😂😂😂
Well, that onion is a one of a kind
I always kill onion the first time I meet him. Not this time though.
Yhorm is easily my favorite of the souls series. Hated his whole life. Hated in death. Tried his hardest to uphold his duty and still failed.
You can feel the harsh emotions that he feels, not only with that but also losing someone dear to him.
And yet its because of that that I have the greatest love and respect for this Lord among all others.
he is a giant, but in the entire souls series, there was no one this human
@@d-rabbitfor5398 I'd aruge the brunt ivory King would be up there with yhorm he built his city to prevent the old choas raised huge tigers to defend his people and left behind some of his best warriors I order to aid a future hero should he fail
He did all of this and sacrificed himself all to protect his people
I think he succeeded in his own way by not ushering in the dark age cause let’s be real if he wanted to in his first attempt he could’ve just ended it all But even though he “failed” he still attempted to do what he precive to be the right thing so I feel like the second time around he still didn’t want to bring about the end times but he also knew linking the flame was bullshit so he just sat and waited for something
"I'm going to take a little nap now,"
This is an emotionally exhausting game.
Everyone from catarina is lazy af they just fight then toast them sleep
@@Gerno_ "sleep"
It's the only thing to do, really, after a nice toast.
@@ESPorygon lmao
*TEARS AHEAD*
The onion knights are rightfully named... because their stories are so sad :,(
Kaleb Thompson indeed, and nice pic btw xD
Lol you have a nice pic as well
I'm crying don't get me wrong. But I would have cried harder if it was solaire I had to watch die again
You cut an onion and you wanna cry.
What is it with Japan (or Asian developers in general) and naming the best gear after onions?
No worries fellas Siegward and I are just chillin’ and drinking some Siegbrau in that big kiln in the sky.
Hope you both are having a great time, you deserve it
It seems you gave thereapeutic first-aid to at least 135 people xD

Where is Siegmeyer?
Update 470
Siegward was trying to delay the fact that he had to kill his old friend i.e Visiting the giant in the undead settlement, fighting the fire demon, going to the cathedral of the deep, getting trapped in a well without armour (even though it was yoinked by patches), making some soup and taking a nap in Irithyll, getting put in a cell in Irithyll dungeon, all this for his old friend to have more time to live before his end of the promise is held Siegward is one of the most kind hearted characters in Dark Souls history and this is one of the reasons why
I think it's because he still wanted to believe Yhorm would do his duty once again by linking the fire, but Yhorm just doesn't care anymore for smt that already burn his kingdom to the dust, all he wanted is just waiting for siegward to fulfill his promise..
Can you not....?
My eyes are foggy now
Well it ain't really a breeze getting to the profaned capital...
I think it is because Siegward can't fast travel through the bonfires. So to actually get to the profaned capital, he had to travel through all these lands on foot. While also needing to eat, sleep, and make it through hordes of monsters/trials.
@@sixsixsik in a way, the choosen undead actually has it rather easy
I like to think that Seigward delays his duty on purpose. He gets caught in a trap. Sits to enjoy normalcy. He also visits the giant that shoots arrows at you. What did he say to him? or did he just get a branch. he wants to delay killing his old friend.
H I think he wanted to give him time, time to rethink and retry to relight the flame, time for him to evade upholding his promise, having hope that his friend would willingly go on to do his duty... That's the tragedy here, even when he saw his friend evading his duty, he still held onto hope that the Lord of Cinder he once called friend, would once again uphold his duty.
That and unlike so many other lords, his friend wasnt directly harming anyone. He wasnt slaughtering himself repeatedly, devouring a god in a tower, reviving his dead brother into servitude, he was sitting upon his old throne in a dead city.
I always thought patches kicked him in the well
@@SaberAlex he did, but he could have gotten out at any moment. having his armour wouldnt make escape easier, it would be harder.
Makes sense, the universe pretty much said... "I am bringing you back to life into an age of decay on the brink of the world as its known ending. Your job is to kill a close friend who is feeling grumpy about burning alive a second time and then right after you have to die".
I wouldn't do any of it period, I don't blame him.
yhorms reason for being lonely:
he was early af in the subscription squad
Samuel R-r-rodr-r-riguez lol love the profile pic
Vaati was probably really unknown when he started the channel. So Yhorm might have been the only "subscriber"
Abyss Watchers: Are kind of busy murdering each other.
Aldrich: Is doing his own thing devouring gods and seeking power to go to the deep.
Yhorm: Linking the fire screwed up his kingdom the first time, why would he do that shit again?
Lothric/Lorian: Actively do not want to link the fire, believing that the coming of the age of dark would be for the best.
I like how the lords all have reasons of their own instead of relying solely on "because it reeeeeeeally hurts to be burnt alive"
Lothric and lorian are too weak to link the flame because of their curse
@@rangopistacho6928 No that's not the reason. Lothric was meant to, but unable to (likely). Lorian was more than capable, but chose instead to share his brother's curse. Even in their crippled state, they could absolutely do it (in fact, Boss VS Boss battle shows that the Twin Princes beat the Soul of Cinder). They simply chose not to. ''Mind you, the mantle of Lord interests me none. The Fire Linking Curse, the Legacy of Lords, let it all fade into nothing. You've done quite enough, now have your rest.'' - Lothric
Though it is heavily implied that Sulyvahn and Kaathe influenced their choice, it is a willing process.
Sorry for the necropost but the abyss watchers aren't just killing each other, they swore to destroy the abyss and now they themselves are tainted by the abyss. So they keep killing each other over and over, performing their duty even if it means killing their friends. Could've worded it better but maybe there's a video on it somewhere.
@@rangopistacho6928 No they were not .....lorian killed demon prince alone ......how can he be weak .......they didnt link the fire bcz scholars manipulated them
Ludleth: Dragged himself to his throne without any legs but doesn't really care whether the Fire is linked or not
Man, this really puts yhorm into perspective. Imagine being told constantly that you were inadiquate, and then after sacrificing everything to prove your doubters wrong you woke from death to find they were right. No wonder yhorm sits alone in his throne room, that's heavy shit even for a giant.

“His detractors would’ve felt validated in doubting Yhorm if they weren’t burned to a crisp.”
That is a really good line.
Maybe Yhorm didn't return because he feared dying again, but because he feared linking the flame. I mean, last time he did it, he killed thousands.
SuperKamiUltraMegaAlphaOmegaBiggerLongerUncut Guru That's my take on it as well. In his attempt to prove himself as a ruler, show they were wrong, he managed to only prove they were all right. No man, or in this case giant, would want to suffer the same fate twice.
Anarchy 5partan Agreed. I honestly think Yhorm was the only inherently GOOD lord of Cinder.
I think Aldrich was the only "bad" Lord of Cinder. Lothric wanted nothing to do with his destiny because it would mean his death, and he refused, with his brother Lorian protecting him. But his refusal resulted in them being cursed. The Abyss Watchers were in the same shoes as Artorias. But Aldrich just liked to eat people.
SuperKamiUltraMegaAlphaOmegaBiggerLongerUncut Guru what about my boys the abyss watchers they fight the abyss until the end protecting many
Dark Beast131 killing almost as many too... Sry for the late reply
siegward is easily the best npc and companion in this game...he was such a kind hearted fellow. I believe he just let go in the end. I think his soul had enough life for just his final mission
Travis Elder what about grierat he was also nice and good
No, that would be Solaire
What about siegmyere. Poor blokes story is heartbreaking and he's such a genuine person
Sunbro Solaire
You guys know he says in this game as in dark souls 3 right
I really feel like I shouldn't kill him he is a good guy I didn't know he was this kind
Oh man my little heart can't take it
Todd Howard cheer up and rerelease skyrim
More like "cheer up and release TES Vl: [insert typical tes epicness]
It's what he needs and what he wanted
That if something shalt go wrong his good friend siegward should end him.
So most of these bosses are actually good. They just went nuts because the world was ending
TOP 10 ANIME BETRAYALS he went mad tho it’s probably better to free him from the pain
Holy shit when your character collapsed after sigward dies i emotionally lost it
that moment when you wanna give a souls boss a hug
You'd just be hugging his ankle, but do it anyway!
If he only had any splinter of his formal loving, caring self left.
Just like Artorias and Sif
Maybe not a hug, but Yhorm is one of the few bosses I want to pat on the back and tell them they did the best they could with what they were given. Him, Artorias, and Sif.
If you wanna count Bloodborne than same with Rom and Gascogne.
Y'all casual's forgetting someone.
My favourite part of this story is how Yhorm is represented by his weapons at different parts of the story.
With a shield when he had something to protect, and without when he had nothing left to lose.
Any chance of making a lore vid about the Lords of Cinder or about each of them individually?
vaati, how do you feel about being so close to 1,000,000 subscribers?
It's too big of a number to comprehend, really. I'm immensely thankful, it's inexpressible.
The only thing more dangerous than a man with something to protect, is when that man is given nothing left to lose.
that was so deep you nearly drowned.
VaatiVidya time is convoluted, did you consider the location and surroundings of the zweihander in dark souls 1? a Catarina weapon perhaps, near the largest tombstone, guarded by a giant skeleton? lore worthy
Yhorm is my favorite boss in dark souls. I wish they made it to where you could save him and he aided you in your final battle against the soul of cinder. Also his story is extremely sad. He probably fought for those people harder than anyone before and they still treated him poorly. He deserved more.
he was a noble and dutifull heir and king, but still a descendent of a conqueror, rarely those conquered dont hold grudges
at least he had a trusty friend
When Siegward did his war cry running at Yhorm in my play through it literally made me cry
I was like “GO GET HIM SIEGWARD OF CATARINA!!!” Unreal the emotion this game can evoke with such little dialogue
I think he knew...because he refers to himself (and you) both as Unkindled and Undead. But if I were a betting man, I think the only thing holding a man that positive upright in these dire times was a promise to an old friend....he may cry "LONG MAY THE SUN SHINE!"....but he knew, once he defeated Yhorm and completed his promise....he would hollow. And he had no desire to do that, especially if it meant risking hurting someone as valorous and as kind as you, whom without your help, his duty would remain unfulfilled.
Siegward is one of the best damn tragic heroes in the game, right alongside Anri.
I'm not crying, my armours just made of onions :(
wearsjorge55 And the onions are full of thorns ;((((
Darkmage1293 why would he have hollowed after killing yhorm?
undeads without a reason to continue go hollow, as far as we know, Siegward only keep his humanity because of his promise to Yhrom, that, should he one day rise from the dead... he will kill him... and with Yhorm dead, Siegward have nothing left to do, and an undead with nothing else to do goes hollow
going hollow means giving up or losing your purpose. By extension people that dont finish the game, or stop playing and/or people in life with no purpose just going around aimlessly, in a way are hollows.. well done miyazaki
Yhorm, My Dear Old Friend...
Very nice insight in this Lord, the truest lord of them all according to me. Not leaving his throne by madness, but by apathy, as if he felt his sacrifice to the First Flame would not amount to enough...
Request from a member of the team: please do a Prepare to Cry on the Fire Keepers!
you made the fucking game you should know

did i give you permission to speak

Solaire of the sunbro covenant
I have a theory that the one yhorm wished to protect, was siegward. siegward Is ash, and we know that means he tried to link the fire at some point, we also know the fire started fading somewhat before yhorm started using only his blade, considering the fact that it seems like not much time passed between yhorm getting rid of his shield, and him becoming a lord of cinder. My theory is that siegward tryed linking the fire, but failed and died. This then made yhorm toss away his shield and ad a notch to the opposite end of his blade so it could easily be used with two hands. We also know that ash can keep there weapons on their revival, so siegward could still have the stormruller that yhorm gave him. And when you and him defeat yhorm his mission is complete. With yhorm defeated, his cinders returned to his throne, and with you going to link the fire, siegward ends his life using the stormruller, the same blade he used to kill his friend. Knowing that his goals were completed, and his promise was fulfilled. maybe in death, siegward could meet his old friend again.
Also, @SushiJaguar made a comment about this as well, I just thought I could add a bit more to it. Also credit to @[Ecchi] for the idea that siegward used the stormruller to kill himself.
Hey ! Just passing, I know you posted this a while ago, sonI don’t expect an answer, but who could be able to predict the future, right ?
So, I really like the theory that Yhorm’s loss is the death of Siegward, but it also raise a problem. Vaati presents the events in this order: Yhorm loses his famous unknown but precious person ; the profaned flame appears, and he throws of his shield ; he then decides to link the fire, and before that he gives a Stormruler to Siegward and asks for his word to kill him if he fails. Presented this way, Siegward has to be alive after his friend’s loss. The only possibility for Siegward to being Yhorm’s loss is that Yhorm gives the sword to his friend’s body, and asks for his word upon his tomb, without truly knowing if Siegward will fullfill hiw duty (but he could have felt that his friend was a knight of honor, being able to keep his word even in afterlife).
That’s my explanation, to anyone who passes by, feel free to answer and corrects me, i would be thanksfully grateful.
P. S. : I am just asking for compassion for my possible mistakes, english isn’t my first language.
I always thought that it might have been Siegward, considering he is unkindled
@@m0her_2 I agree with you. It couldn't have been siegward. I'm super late to this video 😅
The story of Yhorm and the inevitable fate of Siegward is so tragic. The insane level of detail, however minute, is insanity

*"Let the Sun shine upon this Lord of Cinder"*
I went through 5 different emotions when I first heard Siegward say that
hello -> very good -> help me -> I`m sorry -> thank you ?
Panuska I love how Gav from ign's prepare to try season 2 put it. "Yhorm..Old Friend ... *points sword* IMMA FUCK YOU UP"
Panuska I just got super hype
That last dialogue we hear from Seigward honestly made me tear up. Before this, Seig was always so happy and cheerful. But now, you hear two things:
*Sadness, and relief.*
I like to think that Siegward, after keeping his promise to Yhorm, he sits down, has a nice final moment with a friend, and then he just peacefully passes, knowing his duty is fulfilled and he has nothing left to concern himself with. I just want my boy to have a happy ish ending.
The way I like to think of it is that he knew his time was almost up so after receiving that news he then found us and was aware of our quest. He felt that he was unable to uphold his old friend’s promise alone so turned to us for his support. Not only did he want to help somebody on his journey to the Profaned Capital he also wanted friendship, somebody to laugh and have fun with much like those he knew back in Catarina. He died happily with the promise of his old friend being fulfilled and by the side of a friend he found along the way.

Groove Crusader That's Pontiff
yes you could see his beautiful dress
OneMoreHour Pontiff is just a self- proclaimed thing ( probally Pontiff = king) he's name is Sulyvahn
@@hoangpham1515 pontiff is a high rank in order of the church like the pope. Below him is the archdeacons, the deacons, barbaric cleric, and there are many ranks below like cathedral knights etc
Watching these videos, it just struck me that dark souls is one of the few games that embraces tragedy. Not just as part of the quest of some hero, but as the status quo of outcomes. Everything ends in misery and it's not clear whether anything really can be done 'better'. Somehow, that makes Siegward's quest even more profound to me.
Karanagi tbh its one of the reasons I could not bring myself to finish ng+ and higher. I grew more depressed the deeper I got into the lore.
I've always been intrigued by tragedy myself. Always interesting to hear how different people experience things differently :)
That was definitely one of the big reasons I love the games' tone and story. I'm honestly tired of games where you fix everything by the end of the game, because a) that feels cheap and unrealistic to me and b) I feel no need to replay the game to manipulate outcomes, since everything turned out okay.
Dark Souls, on the other hand, was the first game in a while (since Chrono Trigger, in fact) to make me truly think about how to arrange the best possible ending for the game, and I realized that hey, you can't give everybody a fairy tale ending. Siegmeyer's "happiest" ending for him was honestly the best outcome I could arrange for any of my fellow wanderers of Lordran while still helping them quest for their goals, and by giving him that "happy" ending, I was able to give Sieglinde a happier ending than she would have obtained otherwise. Heck, the games don't even do what most horror games and movies do, where you can at least return things close to the "normal" they were before things went down.
tl:dr: I like that Dark Souls doesn't let you give everyone (or really anyone) a fairy-tale ending, adding to the dark and depressing tone that makes the series so iconic.
Dark Souls for me ended up being that extravagant cake laced with slight amounts of cyanide. It was one of the best things you have ever tasted(played) but with each successive bite(play through) you bring yourself closer to death(depression).
But all said and done, I would have it no other way for that is why from the multitude of games I have played, I still remember Dark Souls.
Dark Souls has always felt like a world you enter after all the REALLY bad stuff has happened and all your doing is trying to figure out exactly what all that bad was. And realizing you can't do anything about it. Your a part of the world, not a hero of this world. Your nothing special and nothing you can do will fix it. Which is much more interesting in my opinion then the other games you talk about where it seems you DO fix everything and your the "chosen" one.

did anyone else get fucking chills when he hints at a Pontiff Sulyvahn video at the end?
Should've added Sulyvahn's Darth Vader breathing. ( This is a thing, when you toggle on cheat and listen closely while Sulyvahn is not active)
Yeah it was fucking amazing!
I forget... what hints do we get in the dlc that Pontiff was from the painted world?
The description of frost sorceries.
that's going to be a long one
Glad you're all enjoying the vid, this is a record number of likes and positive comments, goddamn.
See you guys again soon!
Did you notice gerhmans eyes, how diluted and mushy they are? I know this isn't the video to discuss it, but I would like your inquiry. Is Gerhman a beast, or has the scourge, because I noticed he had his leg cut off. Only people who have the plague did this. Why? You never give me feedback, are my theories idiotic or are they already covered and I just never see them before?
LONG MAY THE SUN SHINE!!!
VaatiVidya how soon? like tomorrow? good. more lore and speculations. i need my fix.
Well I definitely think this is your best video yet, by far. Such a simple story to tell, but you really went above and beyond with the telling.
Sick video man. RIP Yhorm :'(
"Hail to Yhorm, our strength and steel! Long live he who gives us fair lives at the hands of these tyrants! Let his name be scattered across the bloodied parchment, and his honor be remembered oh so fondly... May he rest now, a true warrior! A true king! A true friend.. " -.... Alas... Those words remain unspoken... Old Yhorm rests in ash, abandoned by his kingdom... and forgotten by all...
"Let the sun shine upon this Lord of Cinder..."
After fighting him countless times, I paid attention once to his animations, particularly when you hit him with the storm ruler. He seems to shake his head, almost like he realizes what he is doing, but cant stop. This may just be him shaking off the shock from the blast of storm ruler, but I thought it was worth pointing out.
It also seems as though Yhorm is smiling in the cutscene with siegward.
Ok I thought that was just me imagining things, I'm not alone!
Canon.
I know exactly what you mean...
Yup you’re 100% right one of my buddy’s is a dev from souls 2-3 and he had a lot to do with yhorm and he is smiling i think you’re right about the shake too I can ask and get back to you
Update * you were right he does try to shake his corruption when he realizes who exactly he’s trying to kill
If you've finished watching the video, i'd love to direct your attention to this thread by /u/mythanksdotgif, who pointed out that:
a) Before he "kills himself", Siegward doesn't sleep/snore at the end of his dialogue, like he usually does.
b) Instead of saying "our sworn duty" as he usually does, he wishes you luck on "your duty".
These two little points help flesh out the conclusion that we both drew - which was that he must end his life after fulfilling his duty. I think that in a way, death or absolute hollowing might be a relief to many characters who succeed in their goals before "passing".
I wish I had seen this earlier! It would have made a nice addition to that scene in the video.
Thanks so much for the shout out! It means a lot especially since I may not be playing Dark Souls if I didn't randomly come across one of your lore vids. Keep up the great work!
Cheers for the keen eye mythanksdotgif! Its always so nice to see people help develop the lore!
Respect.
His final toast is poison. He doesn't wake.
If you wait around a bit and turn away from him you could hear him die and you get a bit of souls.
It's strange how a character with such little dialogue and only one short cut scene can tell such a huge story and make you feel so many emotions. Siegward felt like my actual friend during my playthrough, and losing him was truly saddening. R.I.P Onion bro 💔
Everything about your videos is stunning. Your voice, the editing, slow shots of nice scenery, the information and lore you share with us, you make the game as special as it should be. Genuinely beautiful and I absolutely adore watching your videos. Thank you Vati, seriously.
The thing I truly love about Siegward is that his values and perception on life really reminds me of Gandalf.
yea, that is pretty fitting.
I think that what happened when Yhorm linked the fire isn't normal because of the way it is described in more detail then other linkings. The best explanition for it to happen is in my opnion the fact that he is a giant and probably also has larger soul wich might have made the flame overflow and consume the people Yhorm had ruled over.
That... makes a suprising amount of sense. Like tossing a can of gasoline into a campfire.
Giant go boom
@@ARC--5973 thank you, Ben, for making my day
This also could mean Yhorm's linking could either be one of the more recent ones or notably ones to happen.
Gunnar Söderhielm this also would show that as a king he was looked at and himself believed he wasn’t strong enough, but the exact opposite was true, being too powerful.
I love how you use what looks to be a spectate mode and game clips to create this movie trailer effect. Goes along with the dialogue really well. Love your work, man. You bring the lore to life
I've watched these videos before, a while back. But man they really are gripping af, been bingeing them for a while now. Thank You Vaati for this amazing content.
I have a Love/Hate relationship with this series. I absolutely love the Lore but Hate when I start feeling sad for killing the person the video is about.
Then you realize you have to kill a kind npc for arguably the best chime in the game.
DeadlockDrago remember the demons souls we kill the saviour and then we realize that actually we are the bad guy in the game
Sometimes you don't even need the lore to feel bad. I bet most of you felt bad for killing Sif. Then you hated yourself more after you learned their lore
I always feel guilty killing giants...
Yeah it started with Demons Souls, killing Astrea and Garl Vinland just was so wrong...
When I got there,
after the fight,
I went up to the throne and read the message,
"Only a Storm can fell a greatwood."
upon reading it onion bro died.
Which added an extra tinge of emotion.
His death must be triggered by distance away from him, and not just leaving the room.
Whaaaa there is a message beside his throne ?
another player's message
No, that's a developer message. You can see it even offline.
"Wood."
Your videos have such high quality man. Absolutely have engaged with these games and grown my love ten fold more
VaatiVidya ive always had something to think about when i watch these videos infact when i played DS3 after seeing a prepare to cry or a lore vid it just helps with game play passion in my opinion. also it’s been atleast a year since ive played but i feel inspired to play when i watch. love these vids and appreciate the time in them
I see that Sulyvahn is next on the list.
Will you unravel the secrets of infinite stamina to us?
Overexcited Boss Pontinfinite Staminavahn
If the Profaned Flame is never ending, and Sulyvahn discovered it, maybe one of the benefits of being twisted into a Tyrant is it gives you never ending stamina? And bug wings.
Don't you mean Lightsaber Pope and his Stand Star Platinum
Pontiff pure endurance build. You know your fucked when a boss dual wields Greatswords of fire and dark like they were daggers, capable of instantly stabbing you from ten meters then following with a 6 hit combo, only to discover that this is phase 1 and phase 2 means two of them spamming AoE magic attacks, where each attack takes half of your health.
original r1 masher
Yhorms story is actually sad
no shit sherlock !!
every fucking souls story is sad, there ins't happy ends in this fucking franchise.
Caesar Crown ninja cutting onions? Is this a mistake or a reference to the Knights of Catarina
That's why, prepare to cry
*yA dONt saY*
I love this character so much, and your channel describes this lore in such a unique and truly passionate fashion
The reason why I love watching your video is because it explains the well written stories of the dark soul games that so many of us miss because we’re so focus on leveling up and defeating all these hard bosses that we don’t bother paying attention to the amazing story line the game tells.
Made a nice little shot of Yhorm and Siegward dueling on a bridge next to Profaned Flame:
flic.kr/p/M2ZMw2
Nemanja X It looks truly epic! You have some real talent dude
My only nitpick with it is that the bridge is curved when it should be straight. Or maybe it is, idk something about it just seems off.
Nemanja X nice
this gets pinned by not my Vaati n Gaint Dad ecortica, Vaati has some shit to answer.
Nemanja X I love these videos
I personally think Siegward is the one Yhorm lost, whose passing caused him to cast away his shield. After all, Siegward is an Ashen One, no? And like the Lords of Cinder, the Ashen Ones are risen from their graves by the tolling of the Firelink Bell, right? And we're never really told /when/ Siegward had Storm Ruler bequeathed to him by Yhorm, nor /when/ they were such firm friends.
That is actually a decent shout to be honest.
No he is among the living he is not an ashen one
ELITE Gaming I am pretty sure Seig is undead ?
@@bradmace9005 no he is among the living and he dies beacuse he felt so bad that he had to kill his friend that he died
@@godblesstheidf7305 Cept he's literally an Unkindled, like you, who is undead, sooooo....
I've really missed out by not having seen all your lore videos. But that means there is much jubilant enjoyment to be had. Beautiful video and storytelling
Your camera shots are incredible! Very nice lore video. Gives me motivation to play the game more!
I never realized that siegward dies after the fight against Yhorm. This makes me kinda sad now
I always thought of it less of him dying and more of he's finally at rest and able to move on. He's probably one of the few characters in souls to actually get anything close to a happy ending.
So, dying?
Dont be. For undead to finish his journey and actually die is the best thing.
ブレーズ Siegmeyer*
I always thought he simply vanished and he left his armor there
"Yhorm... old friend...
I, Siegward of the Knights of Catarina, have come to uphold my promise.
Let the sun shine upon this lord of cinder!"
I honestly almost came to tears when I first heard him say that. (My friend told me Siegward and Yhorm were good friends before I faced him.)
Same. Especially because his voice cracks just a little bit
Yeah. Gets me every time too.
Same I got depressed after that. The way the giant just doesn’t care anymore. He is tired of it all. So you and onion bro face him and bring him to his knees with the stormruler. It’s so sad.
Yeah, it hurt to watch siegward go into his final battle, knowing his friend’s death would be the end of his quest, but im sure in such a dark world as dark souls it was almost cathartic to die for the final time
It was so iconic seeing the ashen one and siegward walking into the battlefield, both with a duty yet siegward regards yhorm as an old friend, I wonder how the ashen on feels, sadness, happiness, regret, does he feel the same pull, or does he focus on the task at hand
Amazing video, I can see the hard work you put into it. Thanks for the sources, the time you invested. You seem like a very professionnal person, even if it's a video game theme. Incredible work.
thanks for making me cry ... love this Vaati... great work .. outstanding story
why cry
when you could be saving settlements ill mark it on your map
IT'S TIME TO STOP
tempines bluff can shove it

no
Oh man I haven't seen you in a while
im sorry
One of the most underrated bosses of dark souls in general...
Solaire Of Astora dunno, puzzle bosses are generally not loved by many...
Metroid and Zelda would like to have a word with you, Tina Sprout.
Context is Soulborne.
Certainly a great fight, just a shame he's so hard to kill without the weapon.
That's probably why he gave the sword: he was so strong that he couldn't be defeated without it. Yes he technically can, but not after alot (and I mean ALOT) of trial, error, and git gud.
Bright side? Just imagine Yhorm in the after life or in ‘heaven’ (If there is one) having a good toast with Siegward with a siegbäru
Lol I'm not going to imagine a video game character going to heaven
Your videos on the lore in these games, brings a whole new perspective when playing. Thank you for all this awesome insight! 👍
I didn't know Siegward died. Now im so sad i want to cry.😖😢
You can't say that you weren't warned...
Mourn with us brother
that's weird, i didn't think havel monsters had emotions.
"My dear friend Havel, I am not dead, Just still making my Siegbrew stew, napping claims me anymore, really the only thing to do after a nice toast" 🍺🍻
May the Sun shine on this Lord of Cinder and his most loyal companion.
Yhorm was my favorite boss from DS3 from the moment I saw him In the opening cutscene.
Did not use the storm ruler either, the fight was way more epic without it.
This lore though, is going to make the new game plus rematch way more compelling.
Same, I actually thought the stom ruler spawned after the fight, I just walked in with Siegward and was surprised when I found out he was a mega badass with his wind sword, I let Siegward do most of the damage while I just aggroed Yhorm with my uchi and managed to defeat him first try without Siegward dying, the hype was real
@@Azaro_64 LIterally same bro
I love these videos on the lore it helps me understand more about the games themselves especially seeing theres alot of hidden meanings
YES FINALLY YHORM GETS SOME LOVE
*tries not to cry*
Long may the Sun shine old friend..
*cries a lot*
Dude every single video you make is literally a masterpiece! From the editing and narration just fucking great dude!! Each one is like a mini movie that I can watch over and over!
Dammit Onion Bro...you're too pure for this realm
9:40 hits me the most...
Finally the return of Prepare to Cry you have been missed old friend.
Yhorm is by far one of my favorite stories from SouldBorne. So much understandable sadness and pain, paired with the companionship of a loyal friend. Saddening and yet...magnificent.
Your narrative effect is quite astounding good sir.
The moroseness in Siegward's voice at the beginning of the fight is what kills me. A man so cheerful. So optimistic. So painfully joyous throughout the entire adventure.
And here he is, grasping desperately for one last thread of courage, that he may carry out his duty. Just depressing, but easily the best story in DS3 as far as my opinions are concerned
And then Siegward teleported back to safety
I wish....
naked
souless
and without his seigbrau!!!
i probably spelt this wrong lol
He just lost his armor... Again!
6 years later you’re video helped me piece everything together. Thank you.
I'm loving your Dark Souls 3 videos! I'm currently playing the game now for the first time, but I haven't even beaten the first major boss yet. I'm glad these videos exist, because I am horrible at games like this, but I'm still enthralled with the story. So, even if I'll never make it very far in the game, I can still experience the story through your videos and amazing narration. Thank you! ^_^
when seigward said "yorhm old friend" 😭
7:55 that monologue before the fight sends chills down my spine every time
Omg 9:30 to 10:10 was so amazing! All your stuff is (By far my fav youtuber) but the way these stories are told i cant tell u how many times i rewatch them all!
"...and somewhere a young wizard escape from a paiting..." the chills on my back.
6:01 HE GAVE THE SWORD TO THE ONE AND ONLY? THE 30 MAN SLAYER? THE ALMIGHTY GREAT BAZUZO?!?!?!?!
Leroy Jenkins “yoU goTTA LoT oF BAlLs Kid
You gotta understand, this is where he went after his head got split, he chilled out pretty hard after coming back
*Is he going to fucking do this Edwad Umberpants Lore video yet?*
*I mean I love Vaati and his videos but I just NEED IT SO BAD*
as funny as the Edwad videos are, i'm going to have to say its doubtful at best
I hope he will, I mean he kinda "have" to cause of the solid 80% of his subscribers are Hyped about it ._.
He has said it will happen, just give him some time. One thing to remember is that we still have a DLC for Edwad to do and Edwad is as unpredictable as the US president at the moment, so I think Vaati wants to wait until the facts about Edwad's existence are set in stone before making a silly video about a RP character that another RUclipsr made up.
Holy shit you don't realise how happy you just made me.
What a fantastic series of videos thos takes the lore of dark souls to the next level!
bro keep doing more like these, your realy good at it mate, good job
What if the Profaned Flame is actually the Chaos Flame?
In DS2, the Chaos Flame was discovered underneath Eleum Loyce, a cold and frozen land; to reach the Chaos Flame, you had to travel downwards. Similarly, Irithyll is a city wreathed in winter and you travel downwards to reach the Profaned Capitol where the Profaned Flame is. Not only that, inside one of the jail cells, you find Karla, who is pretty much Quelana 2.0, and you give her the Quelana Pyromancy Tome. Anyways, Prince Lorian fought the Demon Prince and drove him away, but what if the Demon Prince had tried to invade Irithyll and the Profaned Capitol to reach the Profaned Flame? I mean, Lorian loved his brother so much that he carried the burden of merging his soul with Lothric and supported Lothric's decision to not link the flame, so why would he travel all the way to the Ringed City just to fight the Demon Prince? Unless the Demon Prince invaded Irithyll, which is part of Lothric's (the city) domain and inhabited by Pontiff Sulyvahn, an important person in Lothric's hierarchy.
Quick side note: Sulyvahn is pretty similar to Aldia: both are scholars and have a relationship with royalty, both are fascinated by Flames (Aldia and the First Flame/Bonfires, Sulyvahn and the Profaned Flame), and both don't want the linking of the fire (Sulyvahn persuaded Lothric not to, Aldia presents a choice but only narrates the ending where you leave the throne, implying that he wanted that). Something interesting is that Aldia says "Many monarchs have come and gone. One drowned in poison, another succumbed to flame. Still another slumbers in a realm of ice. Not one of them stood here, as you do now. You, conqueror of adversities. Give us your answer," which coincides pretty well with the Lords of Cinder: the Abyss Watchers are fought after passing a poisonous swamp, Aldrich is found behind Irithyll, a city covered in snow and presumably ice, and Yhorm is plagued by the Profaned Flame, and you who killed them all and brought them back to their thrones.
The gargoyles are also similar to the demons who have lost their flames like the stray demon. On another side note, why is the Stray Demon found on top of a wall for no reason? It is possible that it was trapped there after the Demon Prince was defeated, as the Farron Swamp is pretty close to Irithyll. The birth of the Profaned Flame is also pretty similar to how the Chaos Flame was created, a group of women triggered a curse and was transformed into monstrosities (but perhaps they had reawakened the Chaos Flame instead and now called it the Profaned Flame). The women were also relatives of "an Oracle from a bygone age," possibly referring to the Witch of Izalith (or her daughters), as an oracle in one religion/domain is often also referred to as a witch in another. And lastly, I read from somewhere that the Profaned Flame is called the Flame of Sin in Japanese (this is pretty shaky evidence at best as I can't find the original text anymore and may be untrue) and the Chaos Flame was born when the Witch of Izalith tried to recreate the First Flame but failed, which is pretty sacrilegious and worthy of being called a sin (hence can possibly also be called a Flame of Sin).
So, yeah. That's what I think, but there are plenty of holes in it though.
TheEndless8 I didn't read the entire comment but I wanted to address Lorian going to The Ringed City to kill the Demon Prince. The reason you fight the Demon Prince there is because the last two demons (Demon in Pain and Demon From Below) are there. Per the Demon Prince's soul description, all demons essentially carry the DP's soul within them (the exact wording is his "pride"), so that he would be resurrected when the last one died. So regardless of where the DP was slain, he would be revived wherever the last demon ever was killed, in this case it's the Ringed City.
Gargoyels are always protecter and no demons. The Chaos flame is like the first flame and gives the Demons power. In Ds3 the chaos dies with the demon Prince but the flame in the capital is still there.
On the point about Aldia's foreshadowing of lords, I believe he was referring to the three DLC areas representing three kingdoms of the past "Sunken King, Old Iron King, Ivory King" whom resided in a poisoned city, a burning tower, and a frozen wasteland respectively. As for the similarities to DS3, it's possible that they just reused these themes as they've done with many other storylines in DS games, particularly the time-traveling.
It can also be inferred that the monarchs he mentioned have never actually linked the flame and thus aren't lords to begin with, as he says "not one of them stood here, as you do now" right after you gain access to the flame, thus access to becoming a lord of cinder.
Funfact, there are paintings of the DLC areas of dark souls 2 in one of the rooms in Irithyll/Anor Londo. The big one, where you also find Smough's hammer.
Actually, it says that the stray demon was once the guardian of the bridge where you find him
:'(
Hey! Its the dark hole guy!
XD
Indeimaus Not with this avatar picture 😂
because Indeimaus is bae
the belly laugh at his final toast makes me cry bittersweet tears every time. it's the sound of a man who knows his life is over, but knows also that he lived it well.
The way you synthesize and infer from the vague lore is nothing short of PURE FUCKING GENIUS. Vaati, you are legit one of the most satisfying, talented, and insightful people to ever play a DS game. You are a generational talent, ser. This, and everything else you do, is fucking beautiful
I didn't prepare myself.. And guess what..
I kinda shed a tear or two
Have you ever considered that Yhorm is the descendant of the Giant Lord in DS2? The Giant Lord being the conqueror that suddenly left, and the "oracle" being Nashandra before she came to Drangleic. That would explain the abyss in the profaned flame. As far as imagery goes, we see the humans on the bottom of Yhorm's throne similarly to the golems near the Throne of Want.
Alternatively, could Eleum Loyce be the Profaned Capital? The oracle being Alsanna (a shard of Manus), and the Profaned Flame being a tainted Old Chaos? That would explain to me why the surface, Irythill, is completely frozen. If this is true, what implications does this have for demons who still survive off of the flame of the old chaos? Do any demons still survive off the old chaos?
Lastly,
Spook meme give me a like pls
Yhorm has a face though. He's not the giant anus faced rock type giant.
Lividfire ye Giants got their faces stoled by Vendric, but some of they still have, ita possible
Hugo hugoturbo source on that
For your second theory, does it mean the ancestor of Yhorm conquered Eleum Loyce after we defeated the Ivory King ?
Connor Mac I mean it wouldn't be hard for a giant to conquer a dead land.
I love that he calls his own armor fashion. Man I’ll always shed a tear when he passes. Long may the sun shine…
I literally find your voice so soothing that you can put me to sleep. This is the sixth time you done it. Love the videos and your voice
