BTW the Album cover shown is from a different album of Floyd's (Dark Side of the Moon) THIS SONG is from the THE WALL (released in the U.S. 1979). Its a conceptual piece (the album I mean) and there's a MOVIE of the same name. Gen X here and I cut my teeth on conceptual rock music like this...and Blue grass. and the very beginnings of RAP in the late 70s. FANTASTIC REACTION man. Truly.

The beauty of the album (The Wall) is that the songwriter (Roger Waters) not only tells the story of a fictional rock star named Pink, but at the same time, he also tells us about his own story. A sort of schisophrenic album if we can say so. The loss of his father in WW2, (Another Brick in the Wall Part 1), The educational system of Great Britain, (Another Brick in the Wall Part 2). A mother who has become overprotective, (Mother). Rock star life, (Young Lust) + (One of My Turns). The failure of a first marriage, (One of My Turns) + (Don't Leave Me Now). And so on until (Comfortably Numb), where he refers to a personal experience in Philadelphia. A doctor had to give him a strong sedative before a concert because of severe stomach cramps.

This reaction proves that David Gilmour was the sweetest part of Pink Floyd. The juxtaposition of Waters and Gilmour on vocals is instantly obvious.

Your description and the correlation you made with the album cover was spot on. Pink Floyd is an immersive soundscape of a universally shared experience and the passing of time.

Comfortably numb comes from "The Wall" which tells the story of somebody called Pink. The opening track lyrics are directed to an unborn baby... "so you thought you'd like to go to the show... "the show" is a metaphore for life. Pink goes through a series of traumas, his father dies, he was bullied at school, his mother was over protective, his wife left him and each traumatic event made him build a wall, shutting out emotions of life, each event was just a "brick in the wall". At this point in the album he has finally completed the wall, he exalts in separation from life which can no longer reach him, he has become comfortably numb, but he is conflicted about what he has lost..."When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse out of the corner of my eye, I turned to look but it was gone, I cannot my finger on it now, the child has grown, the dream has gone and I have become comfortably numb". The genius of the guitar solo expresses both emotions.

Teddy, my son is 7 and non verbal autistic. I cannot express in words how much I adore you and your content. When you open up and give some insight into what you are feeling, it helps me to try and understand what my boy might be feeling or processing, as he cannot tell me, so I must rely on my senses to know, or try to know. I love your content man. Pink Floyd has been a staple in my library for 40 years. Welcome to the experience. Oh, and don't ever apologize for pausing and telling us what you feel. that's why we watch.
