- A short walk up Orrest Head, Wainwright's first Lakeland Fell. Orrest Head is a Wainwright Outlyer, and is easily accessible from Windermere Railway and Bus stations. The path was recently upgraded to make it wheelchair friendly, on a good day the views are fantastic. Sadly it was a little cloudy on this visit.

Hey mate, looks a good one, let’s goooo
Beautiful scenery and walk even I could manage be even better on a quieter day
Fill a sack of nuts 🌰 lol …. Sorry I’m s child
🤣🤣🤣🤣 never thought of that!
Some lovely fall colours! My grandfather had a chestnut tree and my brother and I used to wait every year to harvest many and play some good games of conkers. Enjoy walking through the leaf litter too! A great explore...Bruce and Otis
The colours were looking good, however we've had a lot of wind and many of the leaves have been blown off. It's a lovely time of the year. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Cheers Alistair 👍
Hi Alistair 😊 autumn colours are lovely you made a good decision waiting till autumn to walk here. Love seeing the horse. What a peaceful walk
It's a lovely walk, I always enjoy it and very easy access to the start by bus or train. It's been very wet and windy since my visits earlier in the week, so I'm afraid most of the colour is on the ground now!
Thanks for watching and commenting as always 👍
Cheers Alistair
A walk I have been saving as well Alistair for when I am in the lakes with Mrs Metalman and it is not a day for being too far out from somewhere dry and warm, so real good to see a video on it. Mind you a great walk for my grandkids too, especially as the youngest one loves the Gruffalo and there is a nice bench on the way up. Despite the abundance of screaming kids, you still manged to find a quiet route to the summit, cheers Alan
It's a cracking family walk... I think it's great for kids to be out in the fresh air!👍 I spent as much time as possible out running about the woods and fells, no x-box for you and me Alan!
Café in Booths just at the start...and end as well 👍

Hey Alistair! You did right saving this one for Autumn, maybe not Autumn half term but you chose the right way up 🤭🤣 the colours are lovely, what a nice walk (apart from the rowdy crowd at the top 🤭) plus you blended in nice with the autumn colours in your orange jacket and part orange (with a blue sky topping) on your hat 👌😉 just lovely! Have a nice weekend, watch out for ghosts and ghouls 🎃👻🤣❤️💃
😂😂, I thought the same about my jacket. But only when I was editing, I never gave it a second thought before I set off! It's a lovely walk, only takes About an hour or two if you linger on the top... when there's fewer folk about!
I'll keep an eye out for spooky goings-on for sure 👍😲
Have a great weekend, thanks for watching.
Cheers Alistair 👍
Beautiful and amazing view of the place and those autumn colors thanks for sharing
Thanks very much Jef, it's an easy but worthwhile walk. Especially in the Autumn.
Thanks for watching and commenting, it's much appreciated.

I was up there just last month and was also surprised by the amount of people I found at the top. The following day I went up School Knott which was a lot quieter and just as rewarding.
Yes School Knott is generally quieter, and as you say a great viewpoint as well. It's almost a year since I was on School Knott, I need to go back.

We definitely like the sound that! Thank you for bringing us along!
Haha... thanks for watching and commenting.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Nice one Alister another Lake District beauty 🤜🤛
It's worth the hour or so to get to the top for the view... except this week when it was barely visible!😲😂
Thanks for watching and commenting.

Nice one Alistair .
Thanks for sharing 🙏🙏
It's an easy walk, just the thing for a half day or evening (at it's best then for the sunset! But difficult for me at the moment)
Thanks for watching and commenting it's much appreciated.

Loved this one Alistair, thought it was a nice touch that you included the bus slyly to the corner of the shot at the start of this one. Have to be honest even though i well-spent my youth almost weekly visiting Windermere i have never climbed Orrest Head. What a lovely climb and i can see why Wainwright would be inspired to climb all the other fells. Screaming kids? Dont get me started, they have really spoilt two, what should be, magnificent hikes in the last month. Maybe it was my fault, one was at a weekend and the other was during half term. Apparently its fine for adults to let children wander off down steep ravines or play on trig points like they are climbing frames? New age parenting i imagine! 🧐
Ahh... you spotted my inclusion of the Stagecoach 555😂
I've climbed Orrest Head dozens of times and never seen as many people up there as this week. I actually climbed it on Tuesday and Wednesday, this was the quieter one!😲😲
It's a shame the views weren't better on either occasion!
I'll maybe make another video in Winter when all the hills are snow capped 🤔
It's good to see families out enjoying the countryside, if only they could do it a bit quieter.
Enjoy your weekend, thanks for watching and commenting.

@@WainwrightWalksWiaLocalLad it is striking that balance isnt it? Pre covid i wondered why more people were not enjoying our outdoor landscape. Yet now, im wishing that many less did, or at least did it somewhat respectfully and had an understanding of the nature and tranquility around them! Great 555 shot, you’ll look back at that and remember these times! ♥️🥾
That was great Alastair. Again it’s nice to see it from a different perspective 👍
Thanks Phil, I've been up Orrest Head dozens of times over the years.... but found it quite difficult to film 🤔
