Don't make these common mistakes with VSEPR! We'll talking about how to determine the shape or geometry of a molecule using the VSEPR rules, for valence shell electron pair repulsion. Unshared electron pairs (also known as lone pairs) are very important for determining geometry, and we'll look at the following shapes: tetrahedral, trigonal planar, trigonal pyramidal, linear, and bent.

My Chem lab teacher talked about this in class for 2 full hours using balloons. Everyone was so lost. He never even mentioned that the lone electron pairs is what pushes and creates the bent shape. He just kept repeating the words shape families and subclasses. I couldn't figure out how a triginalplaner could be a family AND a subclass. Just using the words "Based on because a molecule is not there" made it CAKE! I know it 100% now thanks!!!

This teacher takes so much effort for making us understand the topics using analogy, shapes and life example as if like we are children to learn these topics. And that’s very rare too see around from the teachers nowadays. These videos are awesome! I'm currently in a chemistry for nursing majors course and I really appreciate that the videos on this topic are broken up into "beginner" and "advanced" because my course does not cover the larger molecular shapes.
