    When I repair screens, I use blue painters tape to secure the frame to the work surface. I've found that it makes it a lot easier to position the screen material and put on the spline if the frame is held in place.

    Hi Lou, I tell you thank you again you help me with one other project with the toilet seat a couple years ago so now you help me with this thank you again Lou I took your advice 100% and it worked out beautiful thank you thank you thank you thank you for the screen door tips and buying a bigger roll than you need. It works just like you said and what was ironic was the size of my screen door that I walked into accidentally also had a hole in it when I moved in about 16 years ago, that was nothing but me walking into it last night literallydid it in but anyway so I’m happy I bought the bigger size because my screen door size is 36 inches just like the one you said in the video which was exactly my size so I took your advice 100% thank you Lou You sure made me happy

    Great video! Thank you. What helped me get the screen nice and flat is this: I did a long side to start, just as in this video. Then, giving lots of slack on the spline, I tacked down the opposite long side in a few spots with the spline to ensure a nice and flat screen. Then I came around the first short side. Then the second long side, popping out the tack points as I approached them. Then the final short side. Voila, new screen door.

    be sure that the spline goes all the way down. It can trick you and make you think its down when its only half way down, one reason to keep the screen loose and not tight, since it will tighten on its own as it goes down into the channel.

    • @AceHardware
      @AceHardware  2 года назад +1

      Hi Raymond,
      If you have a piece of the old one you can match it up. Or use a tape measure and determine the width of the groove. You can always bring your spline into an Ace and they can provide the match! Hope this helps. :)

    • @AceHardware
      @AceHardware  13 дней назад +1

      The trick is not to pull the screen too tightly that’s why the frame bent. Screen frames take practice and patience. You need enough screen material over the frame to properly pull it and the install in the frame. Hope this helps!

    Does the screen have to be tightened as in pulling on the screen when you’re putting in the spline?

    • @AceHardware
      @AceHardware  10 дней назад +1

      Yes you'll want it to be tight or else you'll get a sag in the screen fabric.

  • @lgoler

    Having just done a replacement screen on my door, I'm surprised he didn't say to use clamps to hold the screen in place. It's nearly impossible to get the right level of tautness on the screen, especially for anything larger than a small window screen. Get yourself some clamps and the job will be much easier.

    I have my door patio to be fix, the screen was rip off because of too old, what size of door spline you use?

    • @AceHardware
      @AceHardware  Год назад

      Hi There,
      Typically it's possible to use the same spline. If that's not the case, I suggest bringing the patio door in because the spline can vary by door. Your local Ace may also provide the service to rescreen it for you for a small fee.

  • @charlessanders1342

  • @Nommadman
    @Nommadman 11 дней назад

    What if you don’t have a spline tool. Can I use a flathead?

    • @AceHardware
      @AceHardware  10 дней назад

      We don't suggest a flathead because you could tear the screen fabric and have to start all over. You can also damage the window frame.
      We have heard people having success with a pizza cutter, but we worry that can tear the fabric.
      The nice thing about owning a spline tool is you'll now be set to fix future screens.
