    This 52yr old lady tackled this project with help from your video.
    Couple pointers to add - pay attention to how the door is positioned on the track when taking it off. I didn't realize on mine the wheels go at the top.
    Also, a good chance to give your door edges and handle a good cleaning before putting the new screen on.

    When you try to take an old spline out, look for the starting point where the old spline was started. When you find that point, use that hook tool to get that spline out. Once you pull that starting point out, grab with your hand and it is easy to take the whole spline out.

    Wes, i appreciate leaving dried out spline in the video. Too many other DYI vids do these hard cut edits. You know shit went wrong 😂

    Thanks for sharing, you made this project less intimidating for an idiot like me. Now to just do it. Cheers.

    When your old spline is stubborn, run your blade down the groove and it usually helps removal.

      That’s funny you mentioned that. I need to replace this screen again (dumb dog) I am going to replace it with the pet proof one

      Pet proof?? HA! Nothing is pet proof against a Golden Retriever that wants to come back inside to get her food.
      She simply raises a front paw up and her (trimmed) nails rip it right to shreds. Then she looks at me while i yell at her like, "yo, your door has a hole in it. You should fix it". 🤦‍♂🤦‍♂

      You can put a screen door grill on the outside. It doesn’t necessarily look nice but it may save you from having to replace the screen frequently.

    Removing the spline was easy since it all stayed in one piece for me. However, rolling in the new spline was over an hour of sweat and aggravation. Thank you for the explainer video though!

      Your new spline was likely the wrong size of it was that hard.

    I’ve been putting off doing this for awhile but your video made it look not so bad. But did you have to keep the screen pulled snug as you put the spline in or does it kind of take care of itself?

    So stupid question but do you have to remove the screen door to fix it? Is there any way you can do all that without removing the door ?

    • @WesHamstra
      @WesHamstra  6 месяцев назад

      Yes, you have to remove it. It’s super easy. Just lift up on the door and pull the bottom out.
