Birthplace of the Banana Split, Latrobe, Pennsylvania

Laying claim to where the world's first banana split was ever made was Latrobe, PA, where a pharmacist started serving them in a drugstore. A historical marker was erected where the place was, as well as a large sculpture of a banana split. I would go to the Valley Dairy to eat a traditional banana split that continues to be popular.

Good review, sir! I'm from NE PA and only knew Latrobe from Rolling Rock beer. My first job was at the local Dairy Queen and I thought the banana split was a mess: 3 blops of vanilla ice cream topped with strawberry sauce, pineapple sauce and chocolate sauce, whipped cream (assuming the teens didn't spoil it doing whip its) and some bad cherries on top. Good move waving off the peanuts!
