It depends on what I want to shoot 😊 Yesterday it was my Nikon D6 + 200mm f/2 VRii Sometimes I adore playing with my former Nikon Df and small ais lenses or AF lenses (50 and 85) The Nikon D3X has something in its sensor that makes me come back to it very often with prime lenses The Leica SL (601) is a pleasure to use in street or in events but it has no IBIS and no tilt screen The S1R for great sunny days and landscapes The S5iiX for street because it’s small Well I know GAS is something I really need to work on 😂
I bought a Lumix S5iiX for myself and my son. Hes into video, i want to get into photography for a retirement hobby ( 11 years to go). Still getting my head around the settings, but hope to have a long retirement 😂.
Hello Josh Good one again! I was interested in the S9 but there is a major drawback that makes me hesitate a lot: The lack of EVF and the Cold shoe When you consider these hardware missing I find the price very expensive. It should be less than 1000€
Hi Josh, a great video, as usual. I think you should have mentioned though that the Leica has one of the best EVFs available, whereas neither the S9 not the Ricoh have an EVF - which is a very important consideration for many people.
@@keithjames7893 this is very true, and the Ricoh screen is fixed making it more tricky, my mistake for missing this info out. I guess the Pro for the Lumix could be the flippy screen depending on the user , but that’s very subjective
Lumix GX8 with a peel off red dot sticker and black tape over the lumix name. Of course, 99.9% of the population has no clue about cameras, but it did get a good chuckle from a couple of fellow photographers.
The Sony A7CR with the same Sigma lens or Sony's 40mm pancake lens can be closer to the Leica for the resolution. Though you lose the Leica colours which I know lumix have these profiles baked into their system.
It's definitely the viewfinder issue that breaks the S9 setup for me, speaking of course from a perspective of a country where it gets very bright in sunlight. I can't make out the screen in Spanish sun and the quality of the viewfinder matters too. The viewfinder on my GX80 is pretty much useless for me already, so that's an issue. Interestingly I have an old Olympus E-PL3 from 2011 that has an optional EVF which is the exact same one Leica sold branded for their M240 which is perfect already. If they'd make an S9 II with that kind of viewfinder I'd be all over it.
I have an alternative to both Leica Q3 and Q3-43 The manual lenses : Leica Summicron-C 40mm f/2 that costs 500€ TTartisan 28mm f/5,6 that costs 350€ They are so small and surely far from the Leica Q’s image quality but they give fun on any Full frame camera with the correct adapter. In my case the SL 601
IDK why Pana is holding back and not making a Pro RF Body since the Gx8? The S9 is not there lacking many things ya might as well go S5 series. I had one in my hand and sent it back. My guess is the relationship with Leica and not to canibalize their sales on M and Q lines. Yah the Q is expensive; but TBH it is a great Island Stills camera for a photographer and not as much as a videographer as the S9. If Pana wants to kill it in this segment, make a Pro RF camera with all the buttons and sealing!
Good points, though I do think a Fuji camera is a better Leica alternative than any Lumix offerings at this time. I believe the lack of viewfinder is huge downside for the S9, speaking for people who want the crisp viewfinder of a Q3. Some surprising, but not quite as good of course, alternatives: Lumix GX9, Sigma FP/L.
Neither! I got the Nikon Zf, with a few Voigtlander lenses. The remaining amount, if I did save up the €6000, then that second half can fund a trip to Japan.
The cheapest way imo is getting a Pentax 43mm Limited and then adapt it to a cheap S5 or any other full frame cameras, such as Sony A72 or even Canon RP
Sony A7CR or II or Nikon Zf over any of them for me also. S9 is OK but the Leica IMO not worth the money even if I could afford it. The new Fuji XM5 is also worth putting in the mix…
Yes you will notice the 3D pop, you will notice the difference in DOF, the difference in sensor MP and the mechanical shutter. But the S9 is great for video which the leica is really bad at.
“Nothing compares to shooting on a Leica.” True! Nothing is quite as frustrating as trying to use their overpriced cameras with terrible autofocus and metering 😂
I tried this combo, just couldn't get on without a viewfinder as the combined weight at arms length using the screen to frame the shot gets a bit tiresome; and the price of lenses is way up there. Was hoping for the small zoom but gave up waiting and sold S9 and lens before the zoom was released. Ended up with a Fujifilm X-S20.
We need a viewfinder monitor that adds a small handle and plug into the hdmi but the handle covers it for the S9. That would be a chefs kiss for when people want a viewfinder🤌🏼
Why not suugest the Sony A7CII with the Sony 40/2.5G? You get a modern Sensor with 33MP und a top class AF. In real life, this combo is better, than any Leica, Panasonic, Ricoh, or Fuji.
Yes, but on the Leica please notice it has a proper shutter and hot shoe... like most "cameras". The Leica build is worlds apart. Forget the S9, get the GR, a real camera (as long as you don't need video). Or, just a used Leica- they're all great.
Good options Josh. My Sigma 45mm DGDN is practically welded to my Leica SL (601). Love it! It's certainly not a pocketable alternative, but I have used it to drive nails occasionally 🙂 Seriously, the OG SL (601) at 24MP is STILL an amazing camera, lacking only IBIS. The S9 is very compelling, but would require reading glasses by pretty much everyone over 40...
What camera makes you want to get out and take photos?
It depends on what I want to shoot 😊
Yesterday it was my Nikon D6 + 200mm f/2 VRii
Sometimes I adore playing with my former Nikon Df and small ais lenses or AF lenses (50 and 85)
The Nikon D3X has something in its sensor that makes me come back to it very often with prime lenses
The Leica SL (601) is a pleasure to use in street or in events but it has no IBIS and no tilt screen
The S1R for great sunny days and landscapes
The S5iiX for street because it’s small
Well I know GAS is something I really need to work on 😂

If you dont own one Josh, pickup a Sigma 24mm f3.5 DGDN for the ultimate travel companion to the Sigma 45mm. Both tiny. Both 55mm filter thread.
Hello Josh
Good one again!
I was interested in the S9 but there is a major drawback that makes me hesitate a lot:
The lack of EVF and the Cold shoe
When you consider these hardware missing I find the price very expensive. It should be less than 1000€
I have the Q2M and the griiix HDF. Literally the best combo ever.
Gr3 owner here, I’d like to see your take on both the gr3 and 3x.

I’ve been seeing the Ricoh poppin up more and more. It’s great to have cheaper options cuz we all ain’t got Leica money 😂 love the video bro!
Lumix GX8 with a peel off red dot sticker and black tape over the lumix name. Of course, 99.9% of the population has no clue about cameras, but it did get a good chuckle from a couple of fellow photographers.
and use the panaleica lens.
literally leica
The Leica Gas s Display, which i can Switch, thats georgeos, nur I also Like the Ricoh 😊
The Sony A7CR with the same Sigma lens or Sony's 40mm pancake lens can be closer to the Leica for the resolution.

Would love to see a video on the gr Josh

Yes cover the Ricoh, Josh 👊🏻

I'm willing to not have kids in order to afford this.
“Nothing compares to shooting on a Leica.”
True! Nothing is quite as frustrating as trying to use their overpriced cameras with terrible autofocus and metering 😂
Carrying a Leica around is not primarily to take pics.... haha
I tried this combo, just couldn't get on without a viewfinder as the combined weight at arms length using the screen to frame the shot gets a bit tiresome; and the price of lenses is way up there. Definitely want to hear about GR3x, please.
Another alternative is the Sony A7CR with Samyang 45mm f1.8
We need a viewfinder monitor that adds a small handle and plug into the hdmi but the handle covers it for the S9. That would be a chefs kiss for when people want a viewfinder🤌🏼
We need the sigma FP viewfinder for the S9!
do a alternative video for leica q 3 alternatives 🤪😍 no 43 version
S9 - Nah, no viewfinder and that damn, conspicuous, obtrusive, slow side hinged selfie screen means it’s dead to me from the get go.
Why not suugest the Sony A7CII with the Sony 40/2.5G? You get a modern Sensor with 33MP und a top class AF. In real life, this combo is better, than any Leica, Panasonic, Ricoh, or Fuji.
Olympus Pen F is likely where it's at.
Yes, but on the Leica please notice it has a proper shutter and hot shoe... like most "cameras". The Leica build is worlds apart. Forget the S9, get the GR, a real camera (as long as you don't need video). Or, just a used Leica- they're all great.
Big downside of the lumix is the fact that there is no shutter.
Canterbury!!
