WINTER STORM hits HOT tent. FREEZING wind, FLAMING stove

- What an amazing day at the camp in Northern Canada. A snowstorm hit just as I was arriving at camp. The winds were very strong and the snow was whipping in my face. But it was perfect. I was blown away by the beauty and the power of the cold. This was a rare trip for me. It was a simple, last-minute day trip that turned into a moment in my life I won't forget. Also, I am finally able to make it to this remote camp on my snowmobile. What a day!
Here are all of my tiny cabin hot tent videos: ruclips.net/user/playlist?list...

How much experience do I have?
That depends. I am pretty good at starting a fire these days and gathering wood. But I don't really have true bushcraft skills and definitely no carpentry or construction skills or training. I could probably make a shelter if I had to, but that would just come from all the RUclips training (watching) over the years.
What gear do I use?
Canon 90D camera
Rode videomicro
Sigma Art 18-35mm 1.8
Sigma Art 50mm 1.4
Canon 10-18mm stm
I do not live in the tent. I just visit whenever I can. Кино
I live in the UK I’m 71 At the moment I’m going from one illness to the other. I’m not able to wander around in countryside anymore. Your videos make me feel as though I’m out in the wilds in the fresh air, hearing the trees talking and the wind blowing into my face. I used to love waking up in a tent. I couldn’t endure the cold anymore. Thank you
Stay safe at home and watch as many of this type of videos as you can. There are many many of them.
All u guys who venture out to this kind of situation are crazy or ETS
God bless you and thanks for sharing this!
Here’s your Irish brother from another mother. I too am 71 and dealing with a succession of illnesses.
Its ok we all travel through this phase . but memries must be remembered with a smile i mean memories. We are lucky to have gone thru such wonderful time Just relax
I’m so grateful for these videos, I have severe insomnia and your videos relax me so much and give me something peaceful to think about while I fall asleep. Please don’t ever stop making these .
Me too.

Hello hello Insomniacs
I moved to Colorado to live around the Rocky Mtn Wilderness, study Native American Medicine and Holistic Healing & Wilderness Emergency Medicine.
Being in and around nature has several healing benefits, especially for Insomnia.
It helps to spend some hours during the week in a forest preserve, garden, beach, natural parks, etc.
Avoid too much caffeine and other stimulants. Water, served almost ice cold, will also help keep your body hydrated and help with sleep. Teas without caffeine, designed to help sleep are worth researching and trying.
When I was coming off heroin, I would have to take this medication when I wake up. I would wake up in full opiate withdrawal (nausea, horrible chills, bone pain, etc) and have to take the medication to make it go away. I would take the meds, turn on your channel, and hide under the covers till I felt normal. I would be in a 72 degree room and have horrible chills down to the bone, watching this guy out in real cold. Love this channel. Appreciate the hard work. It got me through that horrible time. Thanks!
Communism is good.
Communism is good!!! What are you smoking 🚬 or drinking 🍸 now. U like Communism, move to Cuba 🇨🇺 or Russia, even China 🇨🇳 or north Korea for that matter.
I am actually a little jealous of your camp! 😁. I would absolutely love to have a place of solitude like that!! I am a 64 year old GRANDMOTHER and I could absolutely spend alone time like this! Yes, I’m a country girl and I love it! My husband always says if I lived in a city…I’d probably be in jail 🤣🤣. I love a quiet life….and your camp is what people like us strive for! It’s not only for fun but, it’s soooo therapeutic! Great for the body and soul!! ENJOY!! It’s truly a treasure! 👍❤️😊
I'm 72 and I feel the same. I'm just not physically able to do it anymore.
I’m only a few seconds into the video but I already appreciate the effort; setting up the camera, driving away, driving around the corner and then off screen, then back to his camera. Jay you put a lot of work in, and it shows. Keep it up eh!
I definitely like to work for my videos. It always brings me great joy when I get back home and have the footage I want. Thanks for noticing! Jay
I’ve been watching you for a long while now Jay. Over 800,000 views on this video! Wow!!!! Nice to see your effort being rewarded.

This guy seems like he would be cool just to hang out with, he seems really in tune with himself and the outdoors!
Usually I prefer the camping trip videos with no talking of hardly any, but your articulation is great to listen to. Keep doing your thing, keep finding the important and bests parts of your soul in the isolation of beautiful nature and all it's changes and moods. Respect, peace and love!
Appreciate you taking the time out to chronicle your adventures. A great reminder of satisfying times in the bush with family and friends and a way for me to bridge the times in-between.
I thought I was the only one who enjoyed instant coffee when you're snowed in in the wilderness. Long Live Sanka
You are not the only one! Ha.
Jay, it's been an amazing journey watching the video's, seeing just how much progress from the old tent, to where you are now. You have shared so much with us all. It will be brilliant to be able to watch as you set up the new camp sight and share the winter seasons along the way. I'm waiting for more lights in the sky footage and the deep crisp snow. Thank you 😊 💫
Have a nice day
I think I want to move to Canada. It seems like such a wonderful place. Open, beautiful, and filled with good people.
Not now. Stay where you are. The healthcare system has fallen. People are sick and they're in the emergency room for A-day or more.
It is a wonderful place!
I'm from Edmonton alberta Canada, you would love to visit it, beautiful place
@@maryjeanunguran3971 Google says, "Edmonton is renowned for its amazing quality of beef, along with bacon and pork," so I'm seriously considering taking my dogs up there, finding a little land, and building a home.
You are a very very brave man to go into the wilderness in this weather! I get insecure when cold. Came from walking home freezing in the dark from school as a kid. Stay safe and warm!! WOW, that is like a cabin! Love it! Safe and warm!
Awesome to see the snow flying again and to hear that machine whirring across the lake. Brings back memories of days gone by in the northern reaches of the US, when I was a lot younger. Now we only have to wait for the first sighting of the Wolf Sweater and the season will be in full swing. After that, perhaps a fish dinner or two from the lake. Maybe that older tent can be transformed into a makeshift ice-shanty for keeping the wind off when out on the lake jigging for dinner.

Ketchup, mustard, mayo, heck yeah love it. Good to see you back out in the snow, the excitement you have is very obvious. Looking forward to see what you do with the other campsite, as they say "variety is the spice of life"
Great video, Jay! I can see that you put quite a bit of time into your videos to give us a detailed look of what you’ve done and plan on doing. I love the cabin in the woods type camping at my place in east Texas. I have all the comforts of home at my home away from home and this reminds me of it, so I can appreciate your videos. I know that setting up cameras in strategic locations for the best shots is an art, but these are right down my alley. And the fact that you’re a down to earth guy………like me….. Thanks for sharing this with us. David
I stumbled up on your videos and I’m enjoying them a lot. It reminds me when my husband and I camp many years ago out in the woods and especially in the dead of winter. It seem to be a lot more peaceful sitting around the camp fire and cooking either on our Coleman or fire pit. I’m now a senior and I’m really enjoying going back and watching all your videos. Oh yeah, mustard is the way to go, 😆
Thanks for taking us along on your snow adventures. No way this old lady can get out there except with you and others like you that will take me along by video.
One thing on my bucket list is just being out in the middle of the woods rather in a cabin or set up like yours and go thru a winter storm. The peace that comes from that is worth any cold i have to put up with
And that is how Search and Recovery missions begin!
I've come to really enjoy a night watching this adventure of your camp. Thank you for bringing us along on a wild adventure that has bloomed into so much more than a dude trying to build a tent in the woods.

I wish I was young.im 71 &watching this wonderful video makes me cry.o what a life that you have doing something that we all enjoyed as kids with tons of energy & heads full of ideas..No such thing as fear in your life, but now at 71 I have to be careful every step I take.its facinating to see you enjoying....
Thrift stores are definitely places for great deals. A good ol’ wood stove and a propane stove too, whew, way to go! Gonna be a warm tent. Texas
Hey Jay! Greetings from Oklahoma. I visited Yellowknife for nearly two weeks in Feb 2020 just before COVID. I fell in love with it, the extreme cold, aurora, stunted trees, driving the ice roads and so much more. It awoke a love for the Arctic inside me that I never knew I had. My girlfriend and myself flew to Fairbanks, AK and drove the dalton highway to Coldfoot this winter just for fun so I could get my dose of the far north. Although I loved it, something seemed off. I think I enjoyed Yellowknife a bit more and hope to get up there this winter with my GF. Since I’m also an amateur botanist, my dream is to move up there someday and start an Arctic botanical garden. Love your videos. Take care!
Greetings fellow Okie!
Maybe what made it feel off was the shortness of the days. Lack of sunlight/daylight can mess with you. You don't realize how much that can drag you down, and all you know is things feel a little off. Or you feel a little off. I didn't even know I was depressed until I moved to Colorado and it was like a weight lifting off my shoulders. Idaho has a lot of gray days. Mountain valleys in Colorado you get direct sun almost every day. There can be a weather front going through, but local convection cells will punch holes in the clouds in the middle of the afternoon almost every single day. One of the local steak houses gave away free steaks on days that had no sun as a promo they almost never had to pay for.
Follow your Dream
I have watched hundreds of great outdoor camping video’s in the winter, before, during, and after a winter storm, I watched them build shelters, campfires, beds etc. but what I have never seen is anyone build a latrine (toilet). They don’t have to demonstrate using it, but at else show that you have one, or some new modern day method designed for camping. No one can go three days camping without relieving themselves, its part of life, human nature, nothing to be shamed about.
Jay uses a bucket to relieve himself at night and empties it in the morning
This is a whole culture that I have never learned but thank you so much for teaching
Awesome!!! You had a treat day ❄️ and you shared with everyone, thanks ☺️
Jay it's awesome seeing you do everything that you do. It inspires people so much to go out and be a part of the outdoors
Golly what a setup so cosy and yummy.....I love the sound of the crunching snow when you walk on it....cheers 👍🇦🇺🦘⛄

Loving the snow. Winter outdoors and at the tent or my Cabin is awesome.
Great video Jay, waiting on the next one.

I love mustard too. Burgers, dogs, ham. Even a big juicy pickle dipped in mustard is a good snack!!

Woah, never heard of that. Must try it.
Hi jay, from Adam in Newfoundland. I’m sure you’ve had store bought bottled sweet mustard pickles with the little sweet onions and cauliflower when u lived home. Or at least it was always a thing to have with cooked dinner here on the island growing up.

I absolutely LOVE the fact your sweaters comes from thrifting instead of from fancy store for $400.00. I subscribed to your channel the second you said that. It’s refreshing to watch someone navigate this type of camping w/o fancy, expensive sponsors.
I’m excited to watch your past adventures and new ones.
I don’t live where this type of camping is an option. So, I live vicariously through you. Thank you for sharing your journey with us!! Happy Camping
One of the things I loved about living in Gunnison, CO was the 2nd-hand stores. With Crested Butte ski resort just up the road, there was a LOT of clothing and outdoor gear on sale that'd only been used once or twice by some rich vacationer. They'll buy the stuff, use it once for one trip, and then it makes its way to the thrift store. I got lots of wool and goretex that way
I’m team whatever condiment fits your fancy- you’re working hard and you’re having fun! Sending warm and good vibes
Playing right!!!
As a human who lives in the tropics, I really want to feel the snow
The snow is so cold that we people could fear this really but we are never tired of it.
Lol.
As a person stuck in the snow I really want to feel the tropics. Wanna switch?
@@Page5framing it's pretty funny, because I was raised in the tropics-Hawaii-, and sort of living in area where we may get snow-Nevada, Arizona- I guess this is one of those were the grass is literally greener on the other side if you haven't ever lived in it

Man those shelters are really cool. Nice and roomy but also sturdy because they're reinforced on the inside very impressive
It was a good video can’t wait to see what’s going to happen with the other camp site.
Your so lucky to be able to do this. your video was awesome and very calming and I can see from your videos that being in your home away from home is your best version of you. Keep Making the videos.
Hey Jay! I wasn’t expecting you to post another video until mid-December as per your last video. This was a nice surprise! Having your snowmobile sure makes it easier and quicker to do a fast trip to bring out things like your propane tank, do a few chores, then head back. Thanks for posting it. Look forward to a bunch more through the season. I’m looking forward to see what you come up with at the new site. Stay safe and stay well. 👍🏼
Jay, there's nothing I love more, than cooking up something comforting and sitting down to watch a video of yours, Joe's, or Steve's. It warms the heart to see good people, doing things that bring me a bit of inner peace. I'm happy to see you've gotten out there a bit ahead of what you had said in the last video, and I'm happy to see you happy. Now.... As far as condiments go.... People are gonna have their preferences, they'd do well by themselves if they could keep from getting so riled up, over something that literally has no effect on them. 🤷♂️ Looking forward to the future videos. Peace, my friend.
Hi Michael. Thanks for this comment. Those other 2 channels are awesome and having you put me in that category means a lot. Sincerely, Jay
@@jaylegere Any time, bud! While you've all got your own distinct styles, it's still outdoors, and while watching the other two bring me plenty of joy, the serenity of your videos, in my opinion, is just unrivaled. Thanks for replying. It's appreciated.
All that's missing is a dog! A dog would SO enjoy being there enjoying the camping with you. I'm always happy when I see a man and his best friend out in the wilderness enjoying the solitude and hanging out together. It seems like a part of the experience is missing without a big, jolly dog romping and frolicking in the snow.
Think about it. Your views will triple with an adorable pup. 😍
Looking back on this video. Compared to The Dragon, this thing was a smoke monster. Goodness gracious, Jay!!! I'm glad your Mom's b/f made you The Dragon.
I find your videos so relaxing and unpretentious. You're just a regular guy that has this amazing tarp tent/cabin. You make the most of the space and it really looks homie.(sp?) So glad to see you and the snowmobile! Now we know winter has truly come to stay, And the horizontal snow!!! Good to see you back with the winter videos. My favorite videos and youtuber. And Crystal gets two thumbs up with the sweaters!

Fabulous video. Can't wait for the second build. Love the winter videos. Chilli sauce goes with everything and anything 👍👍
Hello Jay. Nice video! I like mustard on hotdogs too. Can't eat sausage even though I love it; they active my Reflux immediately! Hotdogs will give me heartburn as well, but not every single time and not immediately like sausage does. I like mayo and mustard on my HB's; usually put mustard on one bun and mayo on the other bun. Love your wood stove. That's the way we heat our house mostly, wood stove in living room and one in back room next to kitchen. Most of the time it doesn't get cold enough here in Arkansas to require both stoves going at same time, but it did last winter. Hopefully it won't get that cold this winter. We had a couple days of -4 degrees Fahrenheit weather with snow and ice last winter. That's not very cold to you people in the freezing northern countries, but here in Arkansas, that was COLD!! We do have three electric oil heaters we use when needed. We have had one in the bathroom for 20 years which my sister gave me. Other two a friend gave us last summer. We have one in bedroom and one I use in kitchen as I sit in there a lot.
Watching your video made me wish I was in my 30-40's again, and that I liked camping. Hahaha. My husband loves to camp, but I always hated it! I'm handicapped now, and in my 60's, and can't get up or down without help, but I can still dream! And watch you, and video's like yours. We were talking about your tent and setup while watching this video. My husband really liked it. I told him I did too, except there was No indoor bathroom! I have to have my bathroom! That was Always my biggest complaint about camping, no indoor bathroom. Usually not even an outhouse, just the outdoors. I hated having to use the outhouse when we visited my grandma, so I sure didn't want to just squat and let it hang out!! And now, I can't do so, bad legs and back. Stay active as long as your health will let you, Jay. For your children, stay as healthy as you can! God bless you.
The song you picked for the soundtrack is one of my favorites. I always play it two or three times when it comes up on my playlist.
One step at a time Jay . One step at a time . Nice to see the ice is in the safe zoon now . Stay well man 🖖
I might be wrong but to me it looks like you should weld a basin under your stove to allow the ash to drop in to it and let the fire have more air intake to burn more efficiently. Great video and love what you are doing. Keep up the good work!👌
I forgot I was watching RUclips. I kept expecting someone to spring out of the woods with an axe.
I really liked this. So cozy.
Love your videos J thank you so much for sharing. I watched him several times over and over.
I love these winter videos and the sound of that wind, I wouldn't mind living out there, a lovely video.
Awesome video as always Jay. From someone who has never even seen snow, that snowfall at the start was amazing to watch and can only imagine what it was like to see.
Now... time to go and google what a Russian bear tent is LOL
Keep up the great work and glad you were able to get out for a day.
PS: Mustard and tomato sauce are a must have on a hot dog... yum!

Just camped this weekend in my canvas tent 10x12 same brand. It was -32C and took tent 2 hrs to heat up. I built an internal wood frame with ridge beam and put 8x1 boards on walls. Tent holds up to 2’ of snow and has been up since April 2021.
It was cold as f and my cream froze for my coffee lol
These videos def help with my lack of sleep, especially right now as I come down from 2 years of solid drinking. Ty
Wow , that’s amazing, this is what you call real snow ❄️ lucky you guys 👌❄️ love snow ❄️ thanks for sharing !
I stumbled upon your video and I’ve got to say that I’ve always enjoyed shopping at the many Goodwill stores here in San Antonio and a place called Texas Thrift store . That’s where I found German wool underwear and I’ve only worn it last year when we had Snowmegoden and I have always bought wool sweaters but only once have I bought one as thick as the blue one that ya were wearing .
Well , I’ve been buying my winter gear whenever I spot it and I plan to travel to the Rockies for a winter spell .
I watch a guy on RUclips by the name of Shugnight & he is a winter camper but he sleeps in a hammock .
I’d much rather have a tent and a stove though as I used to do for 10 years in the Army .
My first field exercise we hit -40 for quite some time and they had to stop our exercise, so we enjoyed Germany at a much personal level .
Well , I look forward to watching more videos from ya .
Thanks, Jay. Great video and a beautiful place.
I envy your love for the outdoors if I had those skills that is exactly how I’d want to live
Surprised to see you so soon..the snowmobile makes a big difference

That was a good time watching that! Thanks for using all the safety precautions..safety glasses..hearing protection..staying clear of the turning blade etc. So many people disregard all that. It was kule seeing you pull that barn beam from that old log. P.S. I like the American flag at the end..
Awesome camp, videos are so refreshing..thank-you for putting in the time for all of us to enjoy viewing 👏👍
Hey Joe! Another great video. I was just thinking if there was a way to use the top plate in ur wood stove to use as like a heat rock in the rest of the tent? You could heat that flat metal top piece that covers the grill top of the wood stove, then make a holder to place it in to move it around and use the radiant heat for something small. It obviously won’t heat the tent but maybe while working or sleeping to have it close. Just a suggestion 🍻
Interesting suggestion. Never thought about that.

Haha, speaking of fire starter… I was explaining to my son why I wanted a wool rug for in our tent with the woodstove, and how wool is fire retardant. My son suddenly got a long face- turns out that he was saving all the loose wool from my sheepskin brush to put in his emergency bag to use as emergency fire starter. 😂 he’s 17. a+ for effort I guess, he’s been saving it for a year.
Hahaha. Poor guy. Still, sounds like he's got determination. He should clean out your drier lint from now on. That stuff lights like gas.

We got out of school for Christmas break and didn’t go back to school until sometime in February . We lucked out and didn’t have to make up the days we missed because of all the snow.
What a neat little story from your childhood. Thanks for sharing that, Debbie. I sure wish we'd get a storm that lastest weeks around here.

It was an awesome time from my childhood days! We hardly ever get the kind of snowstorms like we used to. The last time we did was in the winter of 2013-2014. That was a really brutal winter with lots of snow and temperatures so cold that it caused fuel to freeze. We didn’t have a blizzard like 77, but it was pretty deep that year and stayed on the ground until spring!
