Yes and no. I have a friend who told guys interested in her that she didn't want to date them but then talked to them in a baby voice, flirted, and let them spend the night. Then she blamed them for still holding onto hope. If you're clear in both your words and actions, then yes it's entirely on them at that point.

If I tell a salesman I'm not buying the car but look hesitant, join the mailing list, and test drive the car, then the salesman is going to hope that I'll still buy it (just as a metaphor). But that's just human nature. You have to recognize that if your actions do not line up with your words in any situation, people are going to read into your words differently. And that's why boundaries are really important and the different boundaries of a friendship is what differentiates it from a relationship. If you continually cross those boundaries as my friend did then you're not respecting the friendship with the guy either. It's kind of manipulative to say "he shouldn't have hoped for anything else bc I told him I only wanted a friendship" then do clear things that step outside the bounds of a typical friendship. You are responsible, to a certain extent, as to how your words and actions affect people's feelings.

As someine who's been in the same "we can just be friends" situation she describes, I know exactly what she's talking about. I wouldn't really say it was my "fault," and I don't think she's saying that either, but experience has taught me that this pretty much always happens and I'd be lying to myself if I thought "well, I said we're just friends, so that's that." I could see that he wasn't just getting over me and moving on, and by hanging out with him I was keeping that vain hope alive. On top of which, it was uncomfortable whenever he did or said something that revealed to me that he was still attached. It's better for both parties to make a clean break.

I’m glad your videos are around. Especially in this society some women can just be too much. And I mean that the kindest way. I’m just a very modest generally religious woman though and I don’t really think I was raised this way (I grew up in a single parent home) but it was the way I kinda developed myself into and my own morals and beliefs. I was never much of a partier or drinker either. I also never wants to “experiment” with partners. I ended marrying my high school sweetheart who I also lost my virginity to so here I am only ever having one sexual partner and I’m happy with that. I also like carrying myself more modestly. Not that I won’t wear shorts or a v cut to show cleavage but I just don’t like being sexualized by random men either. Men generally treat me with respect as well because the way I carry myself: This I my own perspective and experienced.

Cassie Hall conservatism is a wide range of opinions and people but I think from an anthropological view point it is interesting; we live in a media and physical political bubbles these days surrounding ourselves with people who think like us and act like us. I, personally live in the Bay Area which is very liberal, so it is interesting seeing someone touting traditional gender roles under the guise that this is progress when I am surrounded by people and philosophies which expand the idea of gender and sexuality to include people across the gender spectrum. She appears to be very influenced by this notion of conservative tradition as the woman as the maker of the home, the woman distracting men with....dare I say....the female body.....(because as we know...men cannot control themselves) and seems to live by this notion that she must control herself in fear of going against some moral code. I think my point here is that although she is on the more extreme side she does represent a part of the conservative community that gets squashed because of political correctness, and it is interesting to hear( especially on the Internet...and the especially videos that are advertised to a largely liberal audience) who will still publicly endorse these ideas

Ok I get that you believe that they shouldn’t be friends, and I don’t have a problem with that. The issue I was trying to point out is that staying friends isn’t the same as hooking up, and saying that they’re female and male equivalents that aren’t actually equivalents is sexist and stupid. Plus, I think the male equivalent of a girl telling a guy she doesn’t like but wants to stay friends would be a guy telling a girl he doesn’t like her and asking to stay friends, not hooking up.
I haven't actually dated anyone so I can't really give advice on that but one thing I would say is that you shouldn't let other people's opinions influence your values and your dating decisions. I've been told that waiting for marriage is a mistake and that I'm going to inevitably fail so why make that kind of commitment. I've been told that I'm too picky because I only want to date someone who shares my religion. The important thing to remember is that you determine your values, not anyone else.
Something I believe is also very important is that people make fun of something they can't have. Sadly in today's society young people are told ther'es nothing wrong with whatever you do instead of teaching them to search for value. Interesting that something that is supposedly so freeing isn't so; choice that really wasn't. Ironic isn't it.
Stick to your guns, how many women (including myself) wished they waited for marriage, and were hurt because they didn't wait or simply just wish they waited and saved themselves for their partner, especially if they marry someone who also waited for you. I do know men who have only been with their wives, they do exist.

I dated this one guy who was really into me physically despite that I dress really modestly, and I think one thing to keep in mind while dating is having the other person talk about their views because my ex just told me things I wanted to hear and would “agree” with me despite him actually having the complete opposite. I put a lot of trust in him because I thought he would think about what’s best for me, but he would say things like, “I just don’t think it’s fair for the both of us,” in order to manipulate me into doing things I’m not cool with. In the end, I did a lot of things I’m ashamed of, and I feel betrayed. In hindsight, I should’ve payed more attention to the small things because they really do add up.
You keep saying “Men are visual creatures,” but it’s rather sexist in my opinion to group them all together like that. Most of the men that I know are more responsive to kind women who meet their needs than bombshells who may not be great people.

Tip: Choose a man with good character AND be of good character. (Someone with integrity, who values honesty, is humble, etc.) I was very up front with my husband about this and was pleased to discover when he valued these qualities too. You can overcome a lot of problems down the road if you're not dealing with character flaws. A lot of guys don't understand this because they were not taught when they were young. In cases like this, I would hold off on getting too serious until he can demonstrate these qualities.

Social and political conservatism are two different things, she just happens to be both. Also, she’s Jewish and was raised as an Orthodox Jew. And the keeping women from having choices is the opposite of her beliefs. She’s very clear that these are all just her beliefs and she’s made these choices for herself. The advice she gives is for other women who have made the same choices.

Being confident enough in yourself so you don’t completely change who you are to fit into the guys life. Also being confident and secure enough with yourself to be able to walk away when you need to without becoming dependent on the attention and company of being with someone. Basically knowing who you are, knowing your own worth, being comfortable alone so that when you do start to date you won’t fall for just anyone.
I felt this. I started talking to a guy a while back who I knew would be great for me. I spent over $40 on products to better myself for him, because all his past girlfriends looked a certain way. I fake tanned, started bikini waxing, and even bleached my the hair on my arms, just to impress him. He lost interest and stopped talking to me before our first date. I felt like an idiot.

What's the worst is when a girl says she's not interested, but on top of still wanting to hang out, she exploits his feelings by having him do little for her. When I met my husband, he had a female "friend". The two times we met, she would want to dominate the conservation, bring up all the sweet little things he used to do for her, and even gave me advice on how to get what I want with him. When I told her that our relationship wasn't about me getting what I wanted, but us working together, she said I didn't know him as well as she did. The day after the second encounter, I told him it was her or me. Throughout the years, I felt bad about giving him that ultimatum, but looking back now, I think I did the right thing. Sorry about this rant, but it is related. Don't be *that* girl, but also, don't put up with *that* girl. Related rant: get to know his friends fairly well before the relationship gets serious. They don't have to become your friends as well, necessarily, but they should be treating you with basic respect and courtesy. You can tell a lot about a guy just from what he's like around his friends and how they interact with you.
@@ariana9784 I am not saying that at all. What I am saying is that sometimes, some people (especially girls) use a friendship for selfish means. I am talking about girls who know that a guy likes her as more than a friend and decides to try and get all the benefits of being his girlfriend without having to actually be his girlfriend. For example, my husband's friend expected that whenever she called him, he would just drop whatever he was doing and take care of her. Even after we were married, she would sometimes call at 3am just because she had a fight with her husband and needed mine to comfort her. Everyone talks about boundaries in romantic relationships, and rightfully so, but they are also important in friendships as well.

As a guy, thanks for sharing all this. I wish more people knew it, and wish someone would say the same thing for guys. It's an encouragement to know that my dating pool got just a little bit wiser because of your video. I found the part about sex prolonging a relationship that doesn't need to be prolonged to be especially true. It also makes things that much tougher when it's over, and is something I wish I had known sooner. There are so many good reasons to wait until marriage, beyond those listed in scripture.

I feel like I'm in a similar place as you, because while I'm Jewish, I'm more secular than religious and my traditional values don't stem from religion. I definitely relate to being worried about finding people who share your beliefs; I'm in college and I feel the same way sometimes since everyone around me seems to want to hook up. There are definitely boys out there who share your beliefs and there are also probably boys who don't share them now but will end up changing their minds when you get older.

Meaning that, on average according to pew research polls, liberals are actually more educated". But this also shouldn't surprise you. Most people identify as more liberal than conservative and so most college graduates also identify as more liberal isn't some left-field finding. It's actually the expected result.

LOVE this video! Yes, religion & politics play a HUGE part in dating. And the sooner we accept this fact, the better. In my personal experience, it makes things clear and simplifies a lot of the dating process. Years ago, I used to think that letting things "develop naturally" was the best way to date. And that worrying too much about "ticking boxes" felt a little desperate and could kill the fun and spontaneity of the relationship. But here's the thing: dating to have fun and sharing the same superficial interests is infantile and the easiest thing ever. Anyone can do it! I am an adult conservative woman (divorced) and I wish I had this advice and reassurance when I was young. I did it all backwards because I didn’t know much about all the problems that come with not being equally yoked. It was horrible and since our values were different we fell apart. It may seem hard to wait but it will honestly be the best thing. Being married also puts you in the covenant God had planned for husband and wife. It is said sex it to be a special gift from God for a married couple.
What? I think the idea that men are supposed to be players and women virgins is mostly reserved for romance novels and polygamy. It’s not logical for a monogamist woman to want that in real life. If she believes women should wait and men shouldn’t, who does she think men are having sex with? Those who wait generally don’t want a man who didn’t. When I met my husband I was a dumb teenager and we kinda grew together so I didn't really have a time that I was "dating as a conservative" I became a conservative in our relationship. What I wish I would have been a bit more aware of is child rearing. My husband and I had some disagreements when we got pregnant with out first. So talking about what you want with family life, and child rearing is pretty important and something that will save you from some fights later on.

If I tell a salesman I'm not buying the car but look hesitant, join the mailing list, and test drive the car, then the salesman is going to hope that I'll still buy it (just as a metaphor). But that's just human nature. You have to recognize that if your actions do not line up with your words in any situation, people are going to read into your words differently. And that's why boundaries are really important and the different boundaries of a friendship is what differentiates it from a relationship. If you continually cross those boundaries as my friend did then you're not respecting the friendship with the guy either. It's kind of manipulative to say "he shouldn't have hoped for anything else bc I told him I only wanted a friendship" then do clear things that step outside the bounds of a typical friendship. You are responsible, to a certain extent, as to how your words and actions affect people's feelings.

As someine who's been in the same "we can just be friends" situation she describes, I know exactly what she's talking about. I wouldn't really say it was my "fault," and I don't think she's saying that either, but experience has taught me that this pretty much always happens and I'd be lying to myself if I thought "well, I said we're just friends, so that's that." I could see that he wasn't just getting over me and moving on, and by hanging out with him I was keeping that vain hope alive. On top of which, it was uncomfortable whenever he did or said something that revealed to me that he was still attached. It's better for both parties to make a clean break.

I’m glad your videos are around. Especially in this society some women can just be too much. And I mean that the kindest way. I’m just a very modest generally religious woman though and I don’t really think I was raised this way (I grew up in a single parent home) but it was the way I kinda developed myself into and my own morals and beliefs. I was never much of a partier or drinker either. I also never wants to “experiment” with partners. I ended marrying my high school sweetheart who I also lost my virginity to so here I am only ever having one sexual partner and I’m happy with that. I also like carrying myself more modestly. Not that I won’t wear shorts or a v cut to show cleavage but I just don’t like being sexualized by random men either. Men generally treat me with respect as well because the way I carry myself: This I my own perspective and experienced.

Cassie Hall conservatism is a wide range of opinions and people but I think from an anthropological view point it is interesting; we live in a media and physical political bubbles these days surrounding ourselves with people who think like us and act like us. I, personally live in the Bay Area which is very liberal, so it is interesting seeing someone touting traditional gender roles under the guise that this is progress when I am surrounded by people and philosophies which expand the idea of gender and sexuality to include people across the gender spectrum. She appears to be very influenced by this notion of conservative tradition as the woman as the maker of the home, the woman distracting men with....dare I say....the female body.....(because as we know...men cannot control themselves) and seems to live by this notion that she must control herself in fear of going against some moral code. I think my point here is that although she is on the more extreme side she does represent a part of the conservative community that gets squashed because of political correctness, and it is interesting to hear( especially on the Internet...and the especially videos that are advertised to a largely liberal audience) who will still publicly endorse these ideas

Ok I get that you believe that they shouldn’t be friends, and I don’t have a problem with that. The issue I was trying to point out is that staying friends isn’t the same as hooking up, and saying that they’re female and male equivalents that aren’t actually equivalents is sexist and stupid. Plus, I think the male equivalent of a girl telling a guy she doesn’t like but wants to stay friends would be a guy telling a girl he doesn’t like her and asking to stay friends, not hooking up.

I haven't actually dated anyone so I can't really give advice on that but one thing I would say is that you shouldn't let other people's opinions influence your values and your dating decisions. I've been told that waiting for marriage is a mistake and that I'm going to inevitably fail so why make that kind of commitment. I've been told that I'm too picky because I only want to date someone who shares my religion. The important thing to remember is that you determine your values, not anyone else.
Something I believe is also very important is that people make fun of something they can't have. Sadly in today's society young people are told ther'es nothing wrong with whatever you do instead of teaching them to search for value. Interesting that something that is supposedly so freeing isn't so; choice that really wasn't. Ironic isn't it.

I dated this one guy who was really into me physically despite that I dress really modestly, and I think one thing to keep in mind while dating is having the other person talk about their views because my ex just told me things I wanted to hear and would “agree” with me despite him actually having the complete opposite.
I put a lot of trust in him because I thought he would think about what’s best for me, but he would say things like, “I just don’t think it’s fair for the both of us,” in order to manipulate me into doing things I’m not cool with. In the end, I did a lot of things I’m ashamed of, and I feel betrayed.
In hindsight, I should’ve payed more attention to the small things because they really do add up.

Tip: Choose a man with good character AND be of good character. (Someone with integrity, who values honesty, is humble, etc.) I was very up front with my husband about this and was pleased to discover when he valued these qualities too. You can overcome a lot of problems down the road if you're not dealing with character flaws. A lot of guys don't understand this because they were not taught when they were young. In cases like this, I would hold off on getting too serious until he can demonstrate these qualities.

Conservative has multiple meanings. It's not just a political position. People can be conservative without any interest in politics.
Social and political conservatism are two different things, she just happens to be both. Also, she’s Jewish and was raised as an Orthodox Jew. And the keeping women from having choices is the opposite of her beliefs. She’s very clear that these are all just her beliefs and she’s made these choices for herself. The advice she gives is for other women who have made the same choices.

Being confident enough in yourself so you don’t completely change who you are to fit into the guys life. Also being confident and secure enough with yourself to be able to walk away when you need to without becoming dependent on the attention and company of being with someone. Basically knowing who you are, knowing your own worth, being comfortable alone so that when you do start to date you won’t fall for just anyone.
I felt this. I started talking to a guy a while back who I knew would be great for me. I spent over $40 on products to better myself for him, because all his past girlfriends looked a certain way. I fake tanned, started bikini waxing, and even bleached my the hair on my arms, just to impress him. He lost interest and stopped talking to me before our first date. I felt like an idiot.

What's the worst is when a girl says she's not interested, but on top of still wanting to hang out, she exploits his feelings by having him do little for her. When I met my husband, he had a female "friend". The two times we met, she would want to dominate the conservation, bring up all the sweet little things he used to do for her, and even gave me advice on how to get what I want with him. When I told her that our relationship wasn't about me getting what I wanted, but us working together, she said I didn't know him as well as she did. The day after the second encounter, I told him it was her or me. Throughout the years, I felt bad about giving him that ultimatum, but looking back now, I think I did the right thing. Sorry about this rant, but it is related. Don't be *that* girl, but also, don't put up with *that* girl.
Related rant: get to know his friends fairly well before the relationship gets serious. They don't have to become your friends as well, necessarily, but they should be treating you with basic respect and courtesy. You can tell a lot about a guy just from what he's like around his friends and how they interact with you.

As a guy, thanks for sharing all this. I wish more people knew it, and wish someone would say the same thing for guys. It's an encouragement to know that my dating pool got just a little bit wiser because of your video. I found the part about sex prolonging a relationship that doesn't need to be prolonged to be especially true. It seems in recent years that my personal beliefs are far gone and outdated; I'm unsure if have hope to marry in the future. Hi Claire! Dating in high school isn't always the most effective thing anyways - boys aren't generally looking for long-term relationships, so they end up just looking for physical stuff. I think as you get older, you'll end up meeting boys who share your traditional values!

I feel like I'm in a similar place as you, because while I'm Jewish, I'm more secular than religious and my traditional values don't stem from religion. I definitely relate to being worried about finding people who share your beliefs; I'm in college and I feel the same way sometimes since everyone around me seems to want to hook up. There are definitely boys out there who share your beliefs and there are also probably boys who don't share them now but will end up changing their minds when you get older.
Claire's Artsy Corner well, take a look at each religion, and especially their fruits. Which religion does the most for charity? Which has the most martyrs? These people seem to be willing to give up their lives for something. Follow that path.

LOVE this video! Yes, religion & politics play a HUGE part in dating. And the sooner we accept this fact, the better. In my personal experience, it makes things clear and simplifies a lot of the dating process. Years ago, I used to think that letting things "develop naturally" was the best way to date. And that worrying too much about "ticking boxes" felt a little desperate and could kill the fun and spontaneity of the relationship. But here's the thing: dating to have fun and sharing the same superficial interests is infantile and the easiest thing ever. Anyone can do it! In fact, that is exactly what most people do and it's not exactly paying up. The fun parts (shared superficial interests) are the easiest things to find out or to build together. Also, Abby, I couldn't agree more with you when you talk about chemistry! It is not a good parameter to measure compatibility, it makes things confusing and can turn into a huge trap! Finally, I love this topic and would love to keep this conversation going. Also, it's really interesting reading what guys comment in your videos! I am an adult conservative woman (divorced) and I wish I had this advice and reassurance when I was young. I did it all backwards because I didn’t know much about all the problems that come with not being equally yoked. It was horrible and since our values were different we fell apart. It may seem hard to wait but it will honestly be the best thing. Being married also puts you in the covenant God had planned for husband and wife. It is said sex it to be a special gift from God for a married couple.

What? I think the idea that men are supposed to be players and women virgins is mostly reserved for romance novels and polygamy. It’s not logical for a monogamist woman to want that in real life. If she believes women should wait and men shouldn’t, who does she think men are having sex with? Those who wait generally don’t want a man who didn’t. Now if he didn’t wait and had an expectation that she would - if he only wants virgins and especially if he leaves them when he’s done with them - that is misogynistic and possibly a sign of some sort of mental illness.
When I met my husband I was a dumb teenager and we kinda grew together so I didn't really have a time that I was "dating as a conservative" I became a conservative in our relationship. What I wish I would have been a bit more aware of is child rearing. My husband and I had some disagreements when we got pregnant with out first. So talking about what you want with family life, and child rearing is pretty important and something that will save you from some fights later on.

Honesty, honesty, honesty! Similar political views too. Knowing from the first day that we could ask each other the big questions and bond over those discussions rather than debating or hiding our opinions has made my relationship strong. The superficial things came as a bonus, and I still appreciate them even though they aren't the core of our relationship 💛
