I often hear pple say, "Does Anthony even like toys with all his critiques?" If he didn't like them, he wouldn't be critiquing it the way he does. He is giving honest, in depth, and constructive critiques. I rather hear a blunt and honest critique than a yes man, who loves every single turd that is produced by these companies. With these current prices, I want to get something that is worth my money. I want to know what figure is worth their asking price and what figure is worth getting at a deep discount.
@@Victor-mc1sz so very true my friend, so very true! Anthony, is always my go to guy especially in this economy !!! You were dead on when you said”turd!”
I wish I could like this twice. No one could ask for a fairer or more comprehensive review of this disappointing figure than this, Anthony. Thank you for advocating for excellence in a hobby that seems to thrive on mediocrity like this.
Anyone else watch these reviews with a toy story mindset? Let's say Vulcan is sentient and is confident because he knows he's a hero and made from this new mold and then Anthony comes along and roasts the hell out of him. Bros probably crying on the inside. But overall I was waiting for this review on the new mold, great input and video as always Anthony! Keep collecting!
I think this might be my favorite review of yours? Many other people I've seen/read looking over this mold essentially just went on about how much better it was than the buckycap mold while ignoring or downplaying alot of very obvious problems that this mold has. So it was nice to see someone actually take an in-depth look at it and call out how BS it is that an entirely new mold is for some reason still stuck 10 years in the past. And while yeah, it IS better, it's only just barely. Heck, personally, I actually still prefer buckycap because the articulation works better on that mold. For all the hype that this mold got, it is incredibly disappointing.
Have no idea how important these reviews are for me. Hasbro, Mcfarlane, and many others need to start sending figures to you prior to release so they can fix the majority of their problems.
It’s like they told the sculptor “you have 2 days to make a new figure”. They might have been a very talented sculptor and wanted to make this thing perfect but due to time restrictions and pressure, this is what we ended up with.
I have this principle where I tend to collect only those Legends that somewhat stand out with their quality, such as Dr Doom, movie Venom, Beast, etc. and just neglect more basic ones
Those are exceptionally well done figures. Definitely a few notches above the rest. Movie Venom is the best Marvel Legend for me personally. If only they did all of their standard bucks with that level of quality...
Cyclops is definetly the best of them, as you said havoc is pretty underdeveloped and Vulcan is just forgettable. Weird that this new mold is gonna be the standard and it doesn't even have a ball peg at the torso. Great review Anthony
While I do think this body mold is an improvement over the bucky cap, Hasbro really needs to step up their game, specially after the increase in their prices , if Mcfarlane toys can make new sculpts more often, and for less cost, then Hasbro should be able to do more.
As much as I really appreciate what Todd's doing there with fully-painted figures with unique sculpts with essentially every outing, the construction of his figures leave a lot to be desired. There's a LOT of inconsistency with is figures from the engineering perspective and while some of them are all around winners, most have major flaws in one way or another. Honestly I would love for a line of figures with the combined positives of the ML line (standardization) and McFarlane line (unique sculpts and paint). So basically make good basic bucks, and then for every characters, modify when needed, even if every piece on a figure needs to be modified from the standard buck. McFarlane's already doing this by making every figure a new sculpt from scratch, if they just work off of a series of standard bucks, it'll be perfect. That or Hasbro putting in more money to retool and apply paint to their figures.
@@arthurchen6464 With that said, there's absolutely no reason Hasbro couldn't produce the same quality sculpts with the desired articulation! They are a much bigger company with a much bigger budget, with over 20 years of producing Legends. We SHOULD be getting that level of quality for what they are charging!
@@ReeceHoward06 I agree. Hasbro's definitely cutting too much cost. But then again, we don't actually know what kind of profit margin Todd's working with, as his company is privately-owned. I don't actually believe Todd's operating at a loss and sees his DC line as a vanity project, like some people seem to think, but he definitely has a bit more room to work with in terms of profit compared to Hasbro, which needs to answer to investors. Basically, Hasbro needs to make as much money as possible, as a publicly traded company, compared to Todd, who just needs to make whatever profit he can personally afford to make.
I was avoiding any reviews if this figure because I specifically wanted to hear you’re take on this mold. You have a better understanding on the human figure and comic book body types than most of the other reviewers. For me, it has a little more of a meaty look, but the ab articulation, butterfly joint, and the legs not going 90 degrees is very disappointing. Ik the comic book Black Panther will be using some of the parts of this figure and the dark suit can hide some of the flaws, but the legs barely moving forward is a deal breaker. Overall, appreciate the reveiw
It’s so messed up that the ML team at Hasbro makes a big deal about making a new mold for a body type when most companies (including other lines from Hasbro) does new molds for nearly every character. Even the ML team makes new sculpts for movie figures. And people still defend them to no end.
Hasbro developed a fanboy base it seems... I think it was intentional. Create people devoted to giving you money for whatever you make and you can maximize profits very easily
I have been eagerly waiting for you to review this guy, since you are the only action figure reviewer who critiques design and aesthetic proportions, and you definitely delivered! Too many fanboys are praising this new mold as the Second Coming, and I just see too many aesthetic problems with it. Thanks for pointing out all the flaws! There is only one problem I have with this mold that you didn't mention, and it's how "flat" his chest is when viewed from the side. There is almost no depth to a body with such a muscular chest, and it makes the "Man Boobs" look super saggy.
Disappointing that this is supposedly the future of ML. Also I completely agree with you on the butterfly joints. Butterfly joints are almost always useless, I don’t know why people think they improve figures when they really don’t.
I find it very interesting that with each new mold, the product doesn't always tend to be better, they take 5 steps forward seemingly learning from previous mistakes but then take 27 steps backwards in some areas. I would just like to know why some of these things happen especially when they've done it properly in the past.
Q of the Day: Havok for me, but Alex and Lorna have been two of my favorite Marvel characters since Marvel Team-Up #69 first came out way back in the summer of 1979. I think I’m passing on this one because I have no interest in the character whatsoever. I say “think” because my local Target currently has 14 or 15 of them on the pegs. I’d they hit $10 on clearance and I’m bored that day, I might pick him up. These solid cases that Target is getting are going to make ML sales look even worse than they actually are. Somebody at Hasbeen better grab the reins and get this wagon back on the road before it goes over the edge of a cliff.
So according to an interview with hasbro regarding ball pegs on neck and toe joints, they said that they flip flop to please fans that prefer one or the other. It's dumb but it sounds like they're stuck wanting to please everyone, which honestly feels like this line is struggling to move forward and evolve.
1) Cyclops all the way 2) I think they didn't add the balljointed neck because they haven't been doing it well in ML for some reason. Just look at the "best spidey mold" who still can't fully look up and has a giant gap in the neck.
If they improve everything at once, they don't leave room for improvement so they can't keep making the same characters and release them on "new molds". Now they can update this mold and re-release a slew of figures again and again, each time on a slightly better mold. Gotta keep the customer hooked
They did plan for the next hundreds year. They do not just improve slightly each time, but often roll back and do worse. I am not sure about keeping customer though. I was "off the hook" for a while.
