These were great cars. I had a 1990 Sundance 5-door. with the 2.5L and 3-spd auto. Loved it! Well-built, dependable, comfortable, and smooth to drive. Repairs and maintenance were inexpensive and easy.
My dad had a Sundance. Inherited if from my grandfather in 97 and kept it going until 2011. It was basic transportation and kept going with normal maintenance. I got great pictures of my boxers riding with dad when he had to babysit for vacations, one in the front, one in the back. I’m teary as I type this. 🥹. Side note, why is basic transportation so hard to find right now.
Base 2.2's pulled real good to 50 mph kept up with 8 sec 0-60 cars but then slowed down..These were well built, good smooth riding cars for in todays money $15k -$17k base sticker price these were perfect, these also had sales for $14k! I worked at Chrysler dealer back then.I could fit in them as I am well over 6 ft tall even the back seat you could fit.. I bought/sold many cars in the late 80's-today I owned a few Turbo models like this and they were fun quick cars,we ran high 14's with a 2.5 Turbo 5 speed..It felt quick and it was!
My parents bought one in 1988, had the ‘info center’ which made notifications like, “your headlights are on”. The headliner sank down after about 10-12 years tho

My 91 Sundance America had a Tachymeter, and Air conditioner. It didn't have a radio. I bought a Sony AM-FM radio with a cassette tape deck and had my dad help me install it. It was one of my Favorite cars, I had it 9 years and put 175,000 miles on it. Other than brake pads, and a battery, I had to replace the exhaust pipes and muffler, a map sensor, the odometer, and three thermostats. I considered that pretty good. The brakes and battery lived their expected life expectancy. The exhaust parts, map sensor and odometer all were replaced in the last year I owned the car. Most of the cars I owned before that had a lot more repairs than that in the same time frame or less. It was a very good car. The thermostats were the only disappointment. I felt like they should have lasted longer than they did.
For 1991, really the only other car in this class to offer an airbag would’ve been the Isuzu Stylus, which sold so poorly, they are extremely rare today. Each year after, more competitors became equipped.
@@05gtdriver Love those unpainted bumpers!! Here in Chicago, where NO ONE knows how to parallel park, peeps are CONSTANTLY scratching your bumper!!😑My brand-new Saturn wasn't even 6 hours "old" before it happened!!😑

There is reviews on the Sundance Duster and Shadow ES V6. It's also available from this account I believe. A Royal pine green V6 Duster is available in review on this one. A 94' was used in it. This one is one of my favorite reviews, this one on Sundance America. Is one of my favorites.
Why this car was tested with a manual transmission surprises me, when most Americans drive automatics. Manual transmissions do not achieve better mileage, and this car does better with an automatic transmission. Nice car; it’s better than Neon.
I could understand where you're coming from, because speaking from my experiences with Manual transmission once in a 2011 Eclipse V6. It showed me just how tricky and complex manual Transmission is, to just operate and drive with. Also a bit concerning because it's more technically complex than what a standard automatic transmission is. It's complexly more powerful than what automatic is. More than what I feel fine with when operating automatic and automatic overdrive. From experience as I speak.
I didn't know until 4 years ago, when I researched this car. After just remembering a time these were everywhere in the mid 2000s, and still around sometimes to this day too.
I could see how much better they are, when the Neon had different quality control, and safety rating. Never had that car before, and never had the Shadow or Sundance before that I always loved and admired the best. But these look fun, especially when they are well kept for sale.
If Fed’s inflation story and justification for raising interest rates every few years should be believed then how come similar cars are now over 20k? 😂
That's not how it works. The feds adjust the interest rate up or down depending on how the economy is doing. A slow economy results in lower interest rates to encourage consumer spending. Rates are increased to slow consumer spending when inflation gets out of control. The historical high in the USA was 15.8% in 1981.
All the new mandatory safety features drove the price up a fair amount. US manufacturers had increased legacy costs built in to pricing that quickly rose in the 90's/2000's. Meanwhile a changing currency rate made imports more expensive. The only companies that could still make inexpensive cars were Korean. (Daewoo/Hyundai/Kia) Daewoo blew up in a financial scandal that makes Enron look like an accounting error. And Hyundai decided to go more upscale with the potential of more profits per vehicle sold.
@@U.S.S.SOUTHSIDE Yeah but back then the Sundance back in the 80s were also part of the GTS hatchback series (LeBaron and Lancer) before Chrysler did away with it later on and now for the 90s all those hatchbacks were now midsize cars and was in the same class as the Spirit and the Acclaim except for the LeBaron convertible which is a GTC model still!
