Toyota Paseo is a fun little car, very zippy - 100 horses in a very light car. Easily zips up to 80 MPH for modern speed roads... smooth ride. Not a Corvette, but at this price, the most fun for $10,758 The trunk is just the right size for weekend get-aways, or a trip to the grocery. The hood is so smooth, drops off for clear visibility. Seats kick all the way back for enjoying the tunes of your favorite radio stations...
Most s series end up in junk yards because of oil consumption..Keep the oil full. They were pretty damn good cars and do last. Most of the other saturns unfortunately were gm scrap bucket put togethers.
I used to own a Red 1992 Geo Storm..I usually got 40MPG and I loved driving it.. An old man in a large Cadillac pulled out in front of me and totaled my Geo...I really miss it..
Besides the Geo and Saturn, I've never seen these cars ever. I grew up in GM land though. Out of all those cars you still occasionally see a Saturn of this vintage.
No it is not. Saturn was part of GM but when they were formed they operated separately from GM. The S-Series cars were designed on their own and are not the same as a cavalier (like the Pontiac Sunfire). S-Series cars are some of the best cars and with a competent owner can last forever. Most of them are pushing 20 years old now and still going strong, they are still everywhere. While their "more reliable" Japanese counterparts are relegated to the scrap heap due to rust. Those plastic body panels were one of the smartest and most practical innovation for the longevity of a car in that time period. Now after 2002 when they discontinued the S series you are correct, they are just a GM in differrent clothes. But the Saturn that was reviewed in this video was unique to Saturn was not a rebranded Chevy.
I had a this Saturn in green. Gave it to a friend with 635k on the odometer. It was a great car. Drove it from Boston to Florida and back regularly. Never had a problem.
Terrence Gold I’ve got a 96 in white and trust me it’s quite fun! Yeah it isn’t perfect and it’s got cheapness, but damn it’s fun to toss around corners!
in 1993 i bought a brand new 93 geo storm like the one in the video. very fun to drive car with the 5 speed manual trans, no cruise,no power windows, no cd player, the car made it over 200k before my x-wife got rid of it. pretty good car.
Paseo was the best of the bunch here. Best blend of efficiency (best in the group), driving fun (second best in group for acceleration, along with great handling), and dependability (it's a Toyota!)... All while being the second least expensive..
+bliglum that's my opinion too... too bad you can't find a decent one anymore. I just sold my 98 tercel 5 spd and it was impressive for such a small engine. Now I have a 95 corolla as a winter car... what can I say, these cars are tanks!
I've had a Geo Storm, Toyota Paseo, and Saturn SC2. .. I didn't have the Hyundai Scoupe. .. But I did have an Excel...all were fun rides... And I have to agree I preferred the Saturn first then the Toyota Paseo then the Geo Storm was 3rd and the Hyundai was last for me also
Seatbelts should be a choice, the government shouldn’t impose on anything that only affects the person doing it. I.e wearing a helmet or doing drugs. It hurts no one except the user. It should be legal.
Those gauges are what we get nowadays, but back then they were "scarce". In the 80s and 90s you got oil pressure, battery volt, etc. Now you just get warning lights.
I have the Saturn in light blue, its in really good shape and I love it! I had to go all the way to Washington state then drive it back to Wisconsin in February, took the Rockies like a champ! Some people don't get it, but oh well, lol:)
Shows the miracle of electronic fuel injection. Horsepower and torque was up from previous versions with carburetors and gas mileage was up. These comparison tests are great fun. RIP Saturn. The only "econo sport" coupe you can buy today (June 2019) in USA is the Honda Civic. As some comments have said.....where was the 92 Civic coupe for this test? Time for a retro redo. OK RUclipsrs, bring out your Storms, your Saturns, your Scoupes, Your NX1600s, and your Pass-A-eee-Ohs. Rev up your engines. No modifications by Scotty allowed.
It’s nice to know you could’ve gone to a few different vehicle dealership lots, ask for a brand new car with recessed headlights, and eventually find comfort in the fact that you might just be able to get one.
A 1989 Geo Metro with a manual would give you 59mpg. There's nothing tech about it, it's just an ultra lightweight car with no modern safety features. But as the government mandated more and more safety features, cars got bigger and heavier, it's literally that simple. A big, heavy car takes more power to move. The tech has come in terms of how much more performance we get, but there's still a wall on gas mileage. If you could produce a new car that weights 1900lbs, you'd still get around 50-60mpg.
I remember driving the Saturn when they first came out. I was really impressed!! Of course after a few years GM 🤬it up by making them re-badged other GM products that weren’t great at the time. If they left the company and engineers alone to improve on what they started Saturn might still be around today. I guess GM was in trouble and had to kill off a few divisions to keep its head above water. 🙄
Not every car these days is an SUV There are still good cars being made that are sports cars like the Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR Corolla, Subaru WRX, and the Honda Civic Type R.
Its worth noting that the storm is roughly based on the same platform as the Isuzu Impulse, though lacks the latter's independent rear suspension in favor of a torsion beam (which might explain why the tail felt loose in corners)
I hardly ever see any of these cars on the road anymore ☹️. Other than maybe a first generation Saturn . But it’s usually not the sport coupe. I had a first generation Saturn (93) wagon . I bought from A guy I use to work with . He bought it from the original owner. The odometer stopped working at 147,000. Not long after he bought it. He used it as a commuter for three years. I bought it for the same purpose and drove it another 4 years . I put a cooling fan in , change the oil regularly and a set of tires. And that’s all I did . I sold it to a college kid. I original AC still worked . She drove it back and fourth from college. It finally just quit a few months back . I saw it on the side of the interstate. I knew it was mine by the bumper sticker. RIP
Tossup between the Saturn and the Storm. I bought a new Storm for my over achieving & deserving son in 1991. It was a perfect car, dead reliable 38 mpg. 238K before we let it go, saw it running around for several years afterwards. The Saturn engine never dies, they can only be destroyed by a lack of maintenance. I've seen 390K on one, went to salvage only because the frame rotted out in our Northern winters. I owned a Tercel, which is the underpinnings of the Paseo, and it was cheap & problematic. The Civics suffered from early timing belt failures which ruins the interference engine, and broken torsion bars are also common. The Saturn would still win a long term test, I think, the Storm would take an easy 2nd. I've also seen stopping distances of 134 feet for it in other road tests.
They thought the Nissan was ugly. I have to say it was the most interesting if not beautiful out of the bunch. On the street, all these cars just faded into the background. The Nissan would be noticed and in a good way.

Easily zips up to 80 MPH for modern speed roads... smooth ride.
Not a Corvette, but at this price, the most fun for $10,758
The trunk is just the right size for weekend get-aways, or a trip to the grocery.
The hood is so smooth, drops off for clear visibility.
Seats kick all the way back for enjoying the tunes of your favorite radio stations...
God I want one of each of them. Even the Scoupe is fucking awesome.
Shame gm dumped Saturn. They had some good product even when brand management tried to take over
freeman Geiger Saturn's are disposable cars, go to a junk yard and it's full of saturns.
sceneitb4 I had Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi with cast iron block and they where cars of the 90s like Saturn was
sceneitb4 I'm glad Saturn is gone they are disposable cars, just drive a Saturn Ion and you will notice.
I’m sorry but... Saturn wasn’t good.
Most s series end up in junk yards because of oil consumption..Keep the oil full. They were pretty damn good cars and do last. Most of the other saturns unfortunately were gm scrap bucket put togethers.
Saturn were extremely well engineered. Light years ahead of the other cars tested.
Bc they were German=Opel
@@accobra4272 not the early saturns.
I love the Geo and man that Saturn 😍. I could not even try to imagine how hard it would to be able to find all of these cars today
Loved the Storm! Those things are ridiculously reliable
AaronVincentPresents HELL YEAH!!!
The Storm and Paseo still look cool. Love these econo sports
I refuse to crash any of these cars. They're scarce enough as it is.
That Paseo is faster than my 2016 Corolla S, quite a nice surprise for econo sports coupes of the past.
Saturn was a very interesting and unique car manufacturer, their cars looked very modern for the time and still do today!
it is just gm with a different name really
But the Saturn that was reviewed in this video was unique to Saturn was not a rebranded Chevy.
you know, if you could find a saturn like that today, in nice shape, it would be a cool looking car to drive!
It kind of sucks to drive, I had two of them. The interiors are horrible. Hard cheap plastic everywhere.
A new Corolla is a limo compared to these Saturns.
My 94 sc2 still turns some heads in 2018.
I owned a Saturn SC2. Red. Black leather. Sunroof. Loved everything about that little car except the power seatbelts.
geo storm = mini 4th gen camaro
Joseph Loro FTW! MY Favorite Of The Bunch! Although I'll Take A G-Si Myself!
rwd or fwd?
I own and drive a "91"GSI GEO STORM 5-speed and just did a tune up , the car is quick and fun with good mileage .
Made by Isuzu. The Impulse was the better version of this car.
Yes your right Camaros are just as slow and gutless and the Geo
in 1993 i bought a brand new 93 geo storm like the one in the video. very fun to drive car with the 5 speed manual trans, no cruise,no power windows, no cd player, the car made it over 200k before my x-wife got rid of it. pretty good car.
My choice is the Nissan NX hands down. Wired styleing but attractive
nx2000
Hot80s if it was the NX2000 it would win this hands down. Gas mileage be damned.
I love the geo storm. Looks like it heard a naughty joke 😆
Nissan tried to impress with the higher tech gauges. Their team was probably so proud.
Those gauges were awesome, only thing on that car that wasn't hideous.
Should’ve gotten the NX2000. Nothing wrong that an SR20 can’t fix :)
I actually might be buying a '96 paseo. found on on craigslist for $1300. rust free, 5 speed manual.
I had a Saturn SC2 with a manual and I loved that car. It was reliable and a couple upgrades it beat every V6 car I lined up with
Saturn I'd take that one first..
I've had a Geo Storm, Toyota Paseo, and Saturn SC2. .. I didn't have the Hyundai Scoupe. .. But I did have an Excel...all were fun rides...
And I have to agree I preferred the Saturn first then the Toyota Paseo then the Geo Storm was 3rd and the Hyundai was last for me also
Geos were Toyotas in disguise. My family had a geo prizm and that thing ran forever.
At 3:45 it sounds like he's saying "is a solid bitch" lol
The review that no one asked for but we deserved.
“IT’S A GEO!”
-Ned Flanders
Those door mounted motorized belts are not missed. Good riddance.
ZN You don’t speak for everyone, I disagree.
Seatbelts should be a choice, the government shouldn’t impose on anything that only affects the person doing it. I.e wearing a helmet or doing drugs. It hurts no one except the user. It should be legal.
@@maxdavidson5050 No. Every road accident costs government money, which we later pay in taxes.
I owned 2 of these cars, a geo storm and a Toyota Paseo. The Paseo was a great little car. Put over 100k miles on it with next to no issues
The Scoupe has no logo in the front, you would never know what it is coming at you🇰🇷
Klasse Act but then again you will notice it's a Hyundai because it'll be melted on the side of the road
I love the scoupe
True 💪
Hyundai had not introduced it's logo to the US yet.
Nobody knew Korea would raid the US economically later. I'm surprised teens are listening to stuff like BTS now. Times are changin.
Where's the Mazda MX3?
+Angel Umanzor I was going to ask the same question. It would probably have out performed all of these cars in every category.
@@pgtmr2713 you think? Outperformed? How?
Everything and a high rpm V6 with a 5 speed mtx.
@@pgtmr2713 the test was with a base engine
No fun in that.
Cars were so much cooler back in the day
Nice profile picture, you are cultured
December 14, 2020. Saturns still make me smile.
It’s nice to know you could’ve gone to a few different vehicle dealership lots, ask for a brand new car with recessed headlights, and eventually find comfort in the fact that you might just be able to get one.
love these reviews. they put you to sleep within 5 minutes.
It’s still incredible to me the mileage returned by mid-90s tech. This was long before hybrids became mainstream.
NX has the best motor, rhose GA16's go forever, but the Storm looks the best.
They last forever though, not powerful but reliable, easily the most reliable out of the motors in this video..
Buy: Paseo
Joyride: Saturn
Crash: Scoupe
I remember those NX1600's I REALLY wanted one when I was in High School!!!!!
Wow did you have some terrible taste.
The Saturn was the best looking of these other imports
I remember driving the Saturn when they first came out. I was really impressed!! Of course after a few years GM 🤬it up by making them re-badged other GM products that weren’t great at the time. If they left the company and engineers alone to improve on what they started Saturn might still be around today. I guess GM was in trouble and had to kill off a few divisions to keep its head above water. 🙄
Back when the auto industry had a different variety of cars now everything's an SUV
Not every car these days is an SUV
There are still good cars being made that are sports cars like the Toyota GR86/Subaru BRZ, Toyota GR Corolla, Subaru WRX, and the Honda Civic Type R.
I had a 1992 Saturn coupe. I liked the looks of the car, but I had a problem with just about every system in the car.
That Nissan is hideous, it was then, it is now.
i drive a Saturn SL still and i love the thing to pieces
WE JUST WISH IT HAD A VOLTMETER AND OIL PRESSURE GAUGE
I test drove some of those cars. I bought a Toyota Celica
I see the Saturn a few times a week, the Hyundai never, the Toyota 2 a month maybe, the Nissan 1 every month or 2, the geo a few a year.
I'd love a Nissan NX. Awesome little car.
I really hope Saturns make a comeback like older BMWs, I agree with the guy saying the saturn has a more fluid front end, it sure was pretty.
Wow, the body roll on the Nissan!
The Toyota Passeo is the only one of the bunch I can confidently remember seeing on the road in the last few years
Facepalm at 2:00...standard response from car n00b. Car merits are 95% colour alone.
I love that Saturn Coupé. If I was a college student, and having money, it would be my choice
