Then you're good to go, if something breaks after buying it you have the mechanic liable in writing for not informing you. If the car is crap you only spent $200 for a mechanic to inspect it instead of thousands of dollars buying a piece of junk.

Some of my best cars have been 3,000 dollars or less. alot of times you can pay a mechanic to drive to look at the car with you or ask the owner of the car to let you test drive it to your local with them. If someone won't let you have a mechanic look it over/test drive it before you buy then that's a red flag.
Or grab someone who is mechanically inclined (I am from Alberta tho - a lot of people I know are either in trades or familiar with mechanics). Or you might be related to a mechanic like myself. That being said, I don’t drive. 🙃
Gurrlllllll I had a Honda from hell tooooo!!! I was sold a used Honda that was a death trap. From the first day I had it there was a scraping/creaking sound from the front left tire area but I was assured that it was just because the car was from ‘99. My dumbass believed it. He heard it and again reassured me that it was due to the car’s age. Fast forward a few days and I’m going home from work at like 12:30 at night and I see some pedestrians crossing in the crosswalk so I slow down and stop. Just as the car comes to a stop, the front left side crashes down to the ground and starts scraping and making sparks as I’m desperately trying to stop it. It finally stops just in front of the crosswalk and scares the shit out of the pedestrians. They came to my drivers side and asked me if I was ok. I said yes and asked if they were too. They said they were fine, just startled. They helped me with their flashlights on their phones and we discovered that the entire left front wheel was folded under the car, completely off the axle. The sound id been hearing was the ball bearing slowly snapping off the axle. I was so ripping mad, as was my dad who paid for the car, so we went back and demanded the money back. If I’d been on the highway I’d be dead because of that fucking car. DONT TRUST EVERYTHING THEY TELL YOU!!!
I wouldn't say DON'T buy a used/old car, but do your homework on them. Get a mechanic to look at it before buying, take your time, check it out thoroughly, and ask questions. If you have to leave and come back, then do so. (But theres no guarantee that it would still be there) Take your time during the paperwork. Read EVERYTHING. You're not on the car dealer's time, they are on YOUR time. They want the sale, so they are going to wait. Ask questions. Like, if it's under warranty and for how long. Where did it come from before then. Factor in the interest on your loan. If it don't make sense, THEN DON'T BUY IT. There are tons of other avenues available. You HAVE to do your homework and go in with a game plan and STICK TO IT. Don't be afraid to be a hard ass. Buying a car is a huge thing and can fuck you over so hard. It must be approached like you are the FBI interrogating a big time coke dealer. And most of all, remember that you have options. Just because things didn't work out at the first dealer, doesn't mean that you will never find a car.

That care was probably in a bad accident or flooded. Dealers usually keep one or two like that on the lot to sell to people who come in wanting the cheapest car they can get. It's sad, but they usually sell them for twice what they're worth. Carfax isn't even accurate when checking for accidents.
