Jon Limer "fantastic valve" NOT these days back in 01-10 yes ,Seat have simply recognised the popularity of their cars and up the price level with VW .
Well I am about to take delivery of a new Leon FR Estate, to replace my current FR estate, and at time of ordering a comparable Golf with the same level of toys and kit is nearly £4K more, when you consider build quality is as good on the SEAT and reliability as good too I think you must agree that represents great value?
Jon Limer I was talking Cupra r v Golf r v Audi S3 the seat isn't good valve .... but other lower seat models are good valve vs the equivalent Audi VW & yes are still great motors .
Jon Limer so my point was from the start that SEAT have always been recognised and always have been a cheaper alternative to vw/Audi . But this new SEAT Cupra R in the video doesn't make sense it's Miles too much money.
I don't know what you guys are doing here out of the sudden, but I strongly recommend not to google what that one guy Abdulla Sincere suggests and not to attack anyone's social media. You will either get maleware from the download, or commit a cyber crime.
Its so true, underrated is a good word to describe it. As a brand, the name itself sounds a bit weird, it doesnt have the history, nor the glamour, but the products are very good and great value.
America doesn't have the roads for this car, what they call in Britain 'B Roads', where this car comes alive (okay, maybe Mulholland Drive is the nearest but still not close).
I like your comments james, if it aint right, you say so , UNLIKE your predecessor, a car needs a PROPER handbrake, not a switch, ignore the haters, keep em coming.......................
Anyone who buys one of these new is off their head. I got a cupra 290 last year with every optional extra including the bucket seats for £22k and it had 1.5k miles. It’s pretty much a fwd golf r but better looking imo. Plus nearly new ones are a hell of a lot cheaper.
Ffs how is Bluetooth, cruise control, park assist, auto headlight, auto lights, DAB a good range of included equipment, my 4 year old works panel van has all this plus more. Items like these should just be standard items on cars now.
Big bottle test makes no sense. Nobody uses big bottles. Why not have a "does it hold a normal and often used bottle well" - And I can tell you that it does. 0,5 liter bottle makes sense. 1,5 or 2 liter makes none at all.
Danny Ward i understand but it still makes no sense. It gives the idea that it is better if it passes but then what happens is that all the regularly used bottles will rattle around. I have a Leon and am very happy with the size. On my Citroen C3 they fit a larger bottle but not the standard bottles and it sucks (+it’s french).
I think seat make all the car you would want really. stepping on the vw in turms of looks, feel etc. Seat and jump straight into the audi and just miss the VW golf all together, exact same with the Ibiza
back in the day 02/03 when the Mark 1 Audi S3 225 was on the market and the seat Leon cupra r finally came out with the flagship 1.8t Bam engine the cars were roughly £8,000 apart now 15 years later the new models are the same price.
No... the Golf R is 4wd, while this is fwd, therefore they can't really be put in the same category. The Cupra is considerably faster than a Golf GTI, so there is no comparison here either, but you can compare the two as being the top of the range hatchbacks for each brand.
In addition to what bobomavlea said, the Cupra is also a lot lighter in weight. Meaning the Golf outaccelerates the Cupra from the start but on higher speeds, when grip is not the issue anymore, the Cupra raises speed faster.
I guess it depends on which country you live in but it has the same engine as a Golf R and where I live that means it's about £7500 cheaper. I know what I'm buying...
Thanks for the review, struggling to see a UK review so far, my Cupra gets delivered in April 2018x not seen one in the flesh yet so the review is welcome! 👍🏼
This review is full of rubbish. I think you'll find the Cupra 280 and 290 both have adaptive suspension as standard - there is no difference between their suspension and the 300. Also, CUPRA mode does not change the exhaust note.
GassedUpUK true, but the cupra is playing catch up and it's nowhere as close as the type r not even to the FK2.... I'd actually buy a used golf r instead for 25k if the new type r is out of budget or for the same money buy a FK2 as a used buy.
GassedUpUK personal preference totally. Quick lap time bragging rights.... Type R all the way. Everyday drivability - golf r. Some where in the middle.... Then I guess this cupra.... As I like track days I went for the type r however now drive a M140i lol
Why do these people keep on about preferring manual handbrakes? My golf has an electronic brake, with auto hold...and it’s great. Don’t miss a manual brake one bit. Then again I’m not 17, and wanting to do handbrake turns.
I'm pretty sure most people here saying they prefer manual handbrakes because of that don't have the guts to try to do an handbrake turn. Or they don't want to ruin their father's car I personally just find it satisfying to put the handbrake up after parking.
Sibley J Because one or more of the break wiring can just malfunction & leave you stranded, then you’ll have to pay £680 to have it sorted...can you tell this happened to me? Lol
Doing small handbrake drifts in the snow (when it's safe and nobody around) is an excellent way to get better at driving in general and learning how your car behaves. I make sure to regularly do several handbrake drifts each season; it keeps me sharp. Obviously not many people do this, so most manufacturers got rid of the manual handbrake. For most people like yourself, it doesn't have a purpose.
But in reality they're not the same price. By the time you go for the GT model in the type R (an absolute must, otherwise you don't even get Sat Nav), it's £33K. And with no real world discounts available on it to speak of, the Cupra 300 can be had with 22% discounts, making it £25K, that £8K difference is pretty significant. When financing or leasing the Cupra shines again, it's far cheaper to lease than the Type GT, and can be had for less than £250 p/month, whereas you'd be lucky to get leasing deal on the Civic Type R GT for less than £350p/month. Horses for courses, but it's important to make decisions based on real world numbers, not RRp's.
Christopher O'Grady I see. I have a Leon SC FR in Alor Blue and I've never had anyone describe it as boring. The lesser models in more a plain colour perhaps, but compared to something like a Toyota Auris or Hyundai i30 bland isn't how I would describe them or their owners. That's just me though.
Faking awful car what 34k plus no no no any damp road you will be bouncing those front wheels not a golf r fan but id pick the golf r any day over this horibble ugly yuk yuk yuk
SEAT are only just starting to get the recognition they deserve, overall fantastic value compared to equivalent VW’s.
Jon Limer "fantastic valve" NOT these days back in 01-10 yes ,Seat have simply recognised the popularity of their cars and up the price level with VW .

Jon Limer that car you are about to buy is a much better option than the equivalent VW or Audi A4.
Jon Limer so my point was from the start that SEAT have always been recognised and always have been a cheaper alternative to vw/Audi . But this new SEAT Cupra R in the video doesn't make sense it's Miles too much money.
I want one so bad, it just looks so good
Thumbsup if you never had potato chips in your glovebox before.
YEAH POTATO CHIPS AREN'T THE BEST SNACK IN A CAR. GREASE, CRUMBS.
Crisps u mean

@Abdullah Sincere you are right. No one cares.

Seat is such an underrated brand, I bought the Ateca a couple of months ago and I LOVE(!!!) it.
I've driven a 2015 Leon for 2.5 years and think its fantastic in all regards
Its so true, underrated is a good word to describe it. As a brand, the name itself sounds a bit weird, it doesnt have the history, nor the glamour, but the products are very good and great value.
@@nixxxon18 fan boy?
@@ChrisplayThrough64 fan boy to say the truth? Try to prove me wrong: German quality with lower price and better style
For some reason I can never get over the voice of this guy.
Got to love the Cupra James, especially the 4Drive ST we tested. Epic fun with tenacious grip.
They should bring this to the USA
Marcel Iamthatiam Jones nah my friend Americans don't like classy European cars
Unfortunately...but i digg this so much
just buy a golf R
America doesn't have the roads for this car, what they call in Britain 'B Roads', where this car comes alive (okay, maybe Mulholland Drive is the nearest but still not close).
Marcel Iamthatiam Jones they should. Would be a great car to own. Just don't like the golf basic styling
I own the 2015 280 one. Would buy the Leon again? Yes. Enough said.
I don't care about the type R. No matter how good a car is, you can't buy one that makes you throw up every time you see it
🤣🤣 hilarious!!!
purchased a cupra 300 in oct 20, fantastic very fast car, lovely interior, very happy with it.
I imagine James car has a tweed interior 😂
2:34 The first that's gonna date this car five years from now is this screen.
It held up surprisingly well. This kinda feels like the sweet spot between too many or roo little buttons.
I like your comments james, if it aint right, you say so , UNLIKE your predecessor, a car needs a PROPER handbrake, not a switch, ignore the haters, keep em coming.......................
Isn't this just a front wheel drive golf r? Or basically a tuned GTi
how reliable is the engine and gearbox?
The electronic handbrake is the best invention since sliced bread. Why people say they prefer manual handbrake.
This car is the fastest on earth. Why? Nobody (non car people) knows how fast it is.
Excellent review James. 👍
Anyone who buys one of these new is off their head. I got a cupra 290 last year with every optional extra including the bucket seats for £22k and it had 1.5k miles. It’s pretty much a fwd golf r but better looking imo. Plus nearly new ones are a hell of a lot cheaper.
Johnny M you can pick one of these up brand new for under 24k
No one buys new, they lease new.
What’s the performance specs tho?
Manual handbrake prevents the car from holding itself in traffic with ACC... Definitely won't miss it
Wish we had Seat in the States

Andreas Gylling Hammershøj Olesen its to give an idea of scale juat like the large packet od crisps.

Andreas Gylling Hammershøj Olesen long journey businessmen or a bottle whiskey!
totally agree, whos going to not buy a car because their is no space for a big bottle!
Arj Naik taking it too far. Its just an indicator
This comes with digital drivers display which should be mentioned.
I think seat make all the car you would want really. stepping on the vw in turms of looks, feel etc. Seat and jump straight into the audi and just miss the VW golf all together, exact same with the Ibiza
Of course it has a 'decent' amount of legroom. You seat so damn close to the steering wheel! Very few people do that.
Another good review.
Nice spotty socks.
back in the day 02/03 when the Mark 1 Audi S3 225 was on the market and the seat Leon cupra r finally came out with the flagship 1.8t Bam engine the cars were roughly £8,000 apart now 15 years later the new models are the same price.
Uhm, mate, the previous Cupra had an identical suspension :p
The police in my area are drinking these so they must be fast
Why do reviewers always complain about plastic material at the lower part of the interior.
JUST A DETAIL THAT MAY BE OF INTEREST TO SOME BUYERS.
Isn’t this basically a Golf R?
No... the Golf R is 4wd, while this is fwd, therefore they can't really be put in the same category. The Cupra is considerably faster than a Golf GTI, so there is no comparison here either, but you can compare the two as being the top of the range hatchbacks for each brand.

How much doesn't cost????
What colour blue is this
you can tell there are mostly hard plastics all over the car, id go for a GTI anyday
Awful, awful choice
Try and find a review where James doesn't say "I'm just over 5 foot 10..."
I want to ship one of these over!
I always carry me Walkers in the glovebox🤔
The car looks like a standard Leon FR.
Launch this Seat Leon Cupra in Indian Automobile Industry 🇮🇳
Tata Altroz best hatchback of India 🇮🇳
It rides on a golf platform !!!
Why get a golf this is the same underpinnings and a lot cheaper I might get a second hand one which are a lot cheaper !!!!!

Nice car good review
Prefer my seat cupra mk2 to this any day of the week . The Seats everything here looks so bog standard compared to the mk2
Love a DSG fart
34K for a SEAT!!
Stop saying absolute
By the time you calculate in depreciation- a Golf R would be cheaper to own ...
Good review. Those alloys look cheap and aftermarkety.

Anyone who pays full price is a nut anyway. You could get a Cupra for £25K or £250p/month leasing deal.

so really just a VW Golf with less luxes part...
Second.
Have no taste in cars but can't afford a golf?
The leon everybody
Christopher O'Grady I think most would agree the Leon is more attractive than the Golf, definitely the 3 door SC.
ApurtureSci not everything is on the beauity
BrateTebra123 That's true, but you get more equipment for your money with the Leon and a wider engine range compared to the Golf (in the UK anyway).
I think you missed the point that they are both boring cookie cutter cars for bland people
Christopher O'Grady I see. I have a Leon SC FR in Alor Blue and I've never had anyone describe it as boring. The lesser models in more a plain colour perhaps, but compared to something like a Toyota Auris or Hyundai i30 bland isn't how I would describe them or their owners. That's just me though.
NOTHING NEW HERE, JUST A GOLF WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SHAPE, BLAND LOOKING AND POOR INTERIOR
This car is boring.
Boring.....
