I would tell my 22 year old self the same thing I told my 22 year old self almost 30 years ago, and that is to ‘have fun figuring myself out’ because when I got older the excuse of, “Hey, what did you expect.?. I was in my 20s” would always be valid, and I was right.

At 22, I had just taken a promotion to the Vault Manager at a large Convention Center. It was a salaried position and I ended up working 40-60 hours a week, sometimes 6 days and had little time for my main passion at the time which was golf. I played high school and some community college golf and had dreams of being a pro. That was squashed by me taking that job offer and I didn’t even think about it or realize it until I was in it.
Now at 44 years old, I have a job where I only work 4 days a week, make more money than I ever have and have mornings and my 3 days off per week to work on my golf game. I am playing the best golf of my life at the age of 44 and now my dream is back but in the form of going for the senior tour when I turn 50. Gonna go hard for the next 5 1/2 years and see what happens!!

24 left my job, took a year out to figure out what I wanted to do, went to college, then to uni to do a vocational degree. Started my new career at 30 been doing it 13 years and am now in a great position to self employed work and mentor others starting out. Best thing I did was to quit my job back when I was 24.

This is so true and something I wish somebody, or myself, could have told me in my 20's. I was told the typical "You need to go to college" or "You need to do this thing" and then at the same time "You need to move on with your life" and "You can't do that". Always told NO for my dreams, and I internalized that because my inner monologue wasn't strong enough to overcome other people's thoughts. So I didn't believe enough to go after my dreams, and now here I am 37 and finally trying even though it's "too late". Be careful of who you listen to and actually care about. Because my parents and a lot of other people ROYALLY fucked me up!

He's pretty much on point in this 1. He hit the nail on the head here. Sometimes you can have a minimum wage job and do your dream job/Lifestyle/buisness on the side until things have enough time to take off. Time will have to be put in to receive your harvest.

22 is about when I moved out, so that’s a bit of a regret of mine, I didn’t go harder to help my Grandparents in their shops. I moved away with my wife and my siblings didn’t help either so now the shops are closed.
Now I’m working to finish my CPT and develop online training- a Fitness & fun App then an Esports Gym. So now that I think about it I’d probably not change much as I was forced to grow up and the CEO of my current company set me on my self development path which rabbit holed to your content! Thank you for everything Gary!

I needed that advice at 17, 18, 19... 26, 27... 32, 33... Probably could have used it even earlier as a little kid.
Guess I'll answer the same question to myself in the way I would have best understood it:
"Figure out where your heart is pointing you and start driving in that direction. The brain is not you, not the rulebook for life or master of anything beyond the material plane, it's the processor and compiler of present and past data, on request (and if out of control, ad nauseum). Let it rest and serve the function of CPU and memory so the heart can be the guy holding the "I" phone.
Secondly, never take breaks from music or from learning how to expand your consciousness. In other words, never compromise your dreams and aspirations to meet society's expectations. Don't even meet it halfway, because every step you take away from yourself is a step into the muck of delusion and dilution.
Lastly, Always be conscious that the external is a reflection of the internal."

Yah know, its interesting to hear this at 23. Its difficult to really figure your dream out when you have to look back at who you were developing into before that was all twisted and prodded out of you by the "safe job" culture that influenced parenting and vocational decision making. Im now in that space where i'm terrified i won't be able to figure it out AND just only researching/planning what i think the dream is instead of starting anything. A kind of "career paralysis" that seems to be the biggest monster to conquer. Even if i was to defeat it, what would i do then? I have no clue. I haven't been able to EVER consider what that beyond would hold. Anyone else feel like this?

I’m kind of in the same situation, I’m 21 years old, I don’t feel like college is for me, and some of my family members have this idea that it’s either college, or work, I’m planning on getting a job to get me by so I can try to achieve my goal of becoming a full-time RUclipsr. The thing that sucks is most of the people in my family think that RUclips is a joke job, and I don’t think that at all. I don’t feel that going to college for something that I can’t see myself doing for the rest of my life would be for me.

Based on the title alone, I'd tell my 22-year-old self to get off my ass and do something. When I was a kid I always had to be first at everything. Somewhere along the line before high school I was taught that there's always somebody bigger and better than you ar everything and something snapped and I started taking a very passive role in life that I would do what I needed to get by but my ambitions suffered for it. So it would definitely be a get off your ass and take up your old mantle because the next 30 years are going to fucking suck with the path I chose. Paycheck to paycheck and just the bare minimum don't get you shit in life.
