  • The rye is growing tall and the farmer has decided to start doing a little green chopping for the milk cows. Also, while we have a few days of no rain, we let some of the milk cows out to pasture for the first time this year! They love the freedom to run and jump around after a long winter.
    Thanks for watching!

I once saw a video when the farmer let his cows in a fresh field of rye and they went crazy. Cows do show signs of happiness you know. I bet your cows were really happy to get the green rye. Its the 29th here and it suppose to get down to 34 tonight and tomorrow. This is why you dont want to put in seeds until Mothers day here...

My grandfather and grandmother used to go picking fruit out in Alberta BC and they would just walk out in the field and milk a cow I guess people didn't mind back then They had their own cows so they were used to bulk cows by hand they were pretty gutsy because they would walk out and pick the fruit that was on the ground too and the people out there didn't seem to mind them picking the fruit off the ground they bought a bunch too they used to always bring us back piles and piles of peaches and mom and Dad started going out with them doing the same getting peaches apricots all kinds of fruit cherries bring them home and can them all

Very very nice Ronda. You and Kevin do so beautifully together. Chopping and feeding fresh green rye to the cows, I was told, is like giving kids ice cream. My Dad grew up farming in the Saginaw Valley, so even though by the time I came along he lived nearer to Detroit, we always had 2 huge gardens. Dad always said wait until "Decoration Day" to plant to be safe from a late frost/ freeze. My next door neighbor told me not to take my "snow tires" off until the end of May. So there's some Old Fashioned Advice for Southern Michigan. Thank you for offering your beautiful farm for my viewing pleasure, it was a treat. ben/ michigan

Thanks for the nice video, Rhonda!! Great to see the cattle getting out and enjoying their first spring outing, They will be loving that fresh green rye grass I think!! It may be a very good idea to cover over the drainage water holding tank in the field - it may attract small critters that could fall in and not get out??? A piece of plywood with a cinder block on top may do the job? Have a nice week!! 😀
