Thanks for showing. I,m a fanatic German made Puma collector but i bought myself a Böker Barlow jigged bone last week. I have the Böker Optima as EDC knife for about 30 years and i love it. Cheers!
I don't have this one, but I do have the Castleburg Club Knife. Great series. I wish I had more of them, but you know how it goes..so many great knives, so few dollars, lol. I did just buy the curly birch Cattlemans knife though. Kind of expensive, but I've been drooling over it since it dropped. I figured I'd start the year out right, lol. I really like Boker. They do a great knife. I'll have to try a barbers strop. I have all kinds of strops, wood, leather, compound, diamond paste, but no barber strop. I do like to finish on bare leather, so I guess a barber strop would work for that..
You're predicament of "so many great knives so few dollars" hits home with many Boker fans. When the company is coming out with so many great variations & innovations in their quality knife making, It makes it very hard for us to keep up! lol... The Barbers'Strop was always something I wanted to try, so when my sharpening "mojo" went in a slump I decided to give it a try. I've been using a stropping block with compounds & it always gave me a sharp edge but I could rarely get to that "next" level. 40 seconds on a strap of fine leather seems to get me there now. I'll still use the block & compounds when necessary - but if I have a sharp blade that needs to be sharper, A few passes on both sides of the Barber's Strop is the new gameplan.
@Warthogg I just found your channel and I'm glad I did. great content. super relatable. subscribed .... also, this video pushed me to finally pull the trigger on the Barlow Prime Castle Burg I'd been eyeing for a while now. Thanks!
Great choice, I actually was going to buy the Prime Castleburg, like you, But I noticed that this standard Barlow version was just about sold out. I had to order this from Germany. So with that - I can now make a decision to get the Prime version at a later date 😂. You're going to love the Castle wood & all the history behind it..Dang, you'll be holding Oak wood that is from a well known castle that was built in 1133, How cool is that? Glad you found me & Thanks for Subscribing 👍
Wishing your health well and happiness for 2021. Imagine the knife's natural wood handlles feels good in the hand, probably will get even better with regular use and handling. Thanks for the video, boker seem to reliably make solid knives. Am now going to look at these barbers' sharpeners and compounds !!
Hope the back gets better soon! Thanks for showing that CJ Johnson Sheffield again,it is my most lusted after in your collection(and you have an amazing collection) Love the content in your videos, the more knives the merrier and the Bokers are gorgeous and more buyable for us guys this side of the pond than GECs 👍👍👍👍
Hey Rick first of all Happy New Year,I guess being that the Barlow has the wood from the castle you could use the knife for “Knighting” people, and that Campana is real good looking especially with that back file work.
Thanks Larry! Happy New Year to you as well. That castle was filled with royalty for centuries! Dukes and Duchesses from prominent families, don't know about Kings & Queens. I'm sure there were Knights in shinning armor at the gates.😂 I'm going to do the Nieto real soon - its beautiful, but made for heavy outdoor/camping/bushcraft work. Very sturdy indeed.
Didn’t miss this one! Still on the Baclofen? Used to kill me, but I’ve been on it 16 years, so I’m a bit immune to it now! That thuya wood looks great! I’ve a couple of thuya wood knives, including a beautiful Moki. Two things I don’t like about these Bökers, are the acid wash and driftwood look of the covers. They make a great knife, but I really don’t like these finishes.
Nice trio of barlows there Rick. I'm with Slick though, not a fan of acid wash either but I bet I could get over it. I'm surprised that is your first Colonial. Not bad knives for what they cost. Hope you back gets better soon.
I was actually shopping for strops this past weekend, I got tired of using my weightlifting belt. lol Was at a toss up between a barber or a paddle, ended up ordering the paddle. Will probably order a barber strop now too. I'm just glad those mountain dew shakes didn't make you slice off any finger meat while cutting that receipt! The castleburg looks wonderful, I think it's neat you own a piece of an old castle, and I love the acid wash on the blade. I hope your back feels better soon. Cheers, my friend.
Nice looking Boker. Those go for more than a GEC. Once I started using a strop, my blades started getting razor sharp. Without a strop I could get them sharp, but more of a working edge.
Yeah William, depending on what kind of edge you prefer on each different knife - the belt strop is the option I use for a razor sharp edge. I have a suede strop block I use with compounds for a more toothy work edge.
Because you vouched for traditional stropping I just now, after many moons, broke down and bought a big one. A different brand that is 3" by 21". It cost a little more, but it'll cut down on strokes.
You're going to love it! Just make sure you don't "roll" the edges (which I did the first couple times🤦). Once you learn the proper technique, the blades get scary sharp!. I actually hold the blade extremely close, almost flat against the strap, start out slow with near full 12 inch passes, then start to pick up speed on each pass - usally 8-10 alternate swipes is enough. Took it to whole new level of "sharp"😂 Also, from what I read, "warming" up the blade on the canvas side with a few passes makes a big difference too (you don't want to roll the edges here either- stay near flat)✌️
Hi MossbergMule, Thanks for the kind words! It's a tough call to pick a favorite here, Although I really like the Expedition with it's brass bolster & beautiful OD green canvas micarta, The Castleburg has the cool history & is limited to 1133 pieces. I've always preferred natural materials for handles, so you can't beat the 888yr old Oak in my book! lol They both cost about the same, So I'd say the Castleburg is the best bang for the buck - especially since they are just about sold out. Thanks for watching my friend!✌️
Is this knife numbered? It’s just odd to me that these have been out for a while now and they still have some (out of 1100) left? You would thing that the numbered series would’ve sold out by now. They are still on sale but I’m hesitant to buy.
Hi Moto, this knife is numbered, But I don't know the number off hand.... LoL I can't figure out why they haven't sold out yet, It's a great little knife - quality through & through! Maybe because the price is a bit high for USA buyers because of the tariffs involved? Anyway, a sweet knife - if you can swing it, I highly recommend it - I like mine so much, it's one of knives I don't use. Purely a collection piece - but would be an amazing user.

Rick you always seem to come up with just one more Thanks Be well
Love the Boker Barlows. I wish they would release one with stamped bolsters like the old 400 series.
Tks WH for sharing. I’m good with the O1 steel.
Another beautiful Barlow. Great piece of history and I like Boker’s new shield too. Congrats!
Very nice my friend 👍 i love barlow type
That’s a sweet bit of steel brother 👍
Learning a lot from your channel. thanks
Thanks for watching J Brooks!👍

I hadn’t realized you had shown a Grohmann I’ve been wanting one and wondered about whether the seconds were worth the risk
Damn that's one classy Barlow👍

Just ordered this knife. Love your desktop of knives.
Thanks Patrick!
I sure you'll enjoy it - It's a wonderful knife
Excellent blade. I want one. Watching your channel has cost me money. I buy them and leave them in the box.

I love hanging strops! I have quite a few for my razors. Wouldn’t put a razor to my face without first stropping!

I love stopping a knife kinda meditative. I have to use Baclofen myself. Doesn't really have any negative impact on me. Fantastic looking knife Rick.
Sometimes it’s hard to get an edge on some knives . I usually keep trying everything until something works :)
Love the strop !!
What a sweet knife . I love that .
Good video and Thanks for the stropping lesson.. Of the 3 Barlow's which one is your favorite or best bang for the buck?
