“The B-wing never flew for the Empire of Japan.” 😂😂😂 I’ve heard a lot of SW commentary over the years, but never heard and thought I would have heard that! Kudos my friend!
I had to go look a few things up regarding the orange meatballs, because I just built Bandai's 1/72 B-wing and it has the meatballs on its sticker- and decal sheet. And the studio model in Lucasfilm's archives also has the meatballs. But I can't see them in the Battle of Endor space footage. I don't know what happened there - if there were multiple B-wing models and only one had the meatballs; if the meatballs were added later (akin to how one of the Mon Cal cruisers was extensively modified to make a second ship) and the scenes it was supposed to be used for were removed; or the very aggressive filtering that was used on the raw footage ended up washing the meatballs completely away. What I do know is that every official model and toy of the B-wing seems to have them...
@@mitchduros The Ralph McQuarrie concept art for the B-wing has the meatballs, as does that one image of the three B-wings and the exploding Star Destroyer, as well as the studio model. The more I look at it the more convinced I am that the meatballs were just lost in the post-processing. It doesn't help that all of the footage of the B-wing in the movie (all ten seconds or so of it) is from a distance under very weird-colored lighting. I'm going to go ask some supposed experts on this stuff, maybe they'll know.
I was 9 when ESB and the accompanying toys came out. What a sweet spot to be in! By the time ROTJ came out (and toys), I was about 13 and discovered girls, drums and music and BMX, so I kinda moved on, unfortunately. ROTJ had an incredible line of toys that I missed out on. The ESB snow speeder was my fave, and still have it! I always loved the B-Wing design and I have two of them now- the 2001 version and the Vintage Collection one, which are basically the same. I love so much the OT vehicles and have pretty much all of the VC ones- the Sail Barge and the BIG Falcon being the Crown Jewels! Loved that Cloud Car bit! Thanks for the fun video!
Pretty much same as me except I was 9 when Star Wars came out. 12 for Empire and 15 for Jedi. But I had younger siblings and we pretty much had everything. But my favorite from ESB is the Snowspeeder. And although I acquired the Legacy Falcon a couple of years ago, I'd really like the latest AT-AT above anything else. I suspect that Kenner gave the B-Wing the red dots because they felt that it needed more color like the X-Wing's stripe. I'd love to get a B-Wing - Kenner or Hasbro. Never had one as a kid though I loved the look of them as a kid. Star Wars has so many brilliantly imaginative ship designs, more than any other movie series, but the B-Wing is near the top of a long list of the best. I enjoyed the bits of humor you put in this very informative video. Great job!
I remember watching the Rebels cartoon, there was an episode where Hera Sindulla flew a prototype B wing and she blew up a star destroyer with the laser canon. That had some serious fire power.
Yes, the B-wing is a classic and one of my favorite toys as a kid, that gyroscopic cockpit was awesome, I deeply regret selling mine. Nice video, keep up the good work 👍
I thought about that. But they both have the same functions. The wings open the same. The landing gear functions the same. There was nothing to compare.
I have the original 80s B wing I won on ebay for around £60 needed stickers and a replacement right wing gun and had a mint B wing pilot elecs not working
Very nice! I wanted a B-wing badly in 1984, but there was this girl… As an adult, I finally shelled out $200 on eBay about a decade ago and bought the one in this video Mint In Box! It was like opening a time capsule. The only thing wrong was that pesky battery cover, terribly warped.
The B-Wing is one of the best Kenner ships and the Power of the Jedi Hasbro version looks great as well, especially at the engines. I prefer the blue engines to the black ones.
Surpised you didn't mention the cockpit as there WERE changes to it with the Hasbro one including a port that the pilot could plug his hose into. It's the little things like that feature that make the Hasbro one a bit cooler than the Kenner one. IMO.
@@tommorales2371 The Kenner action figures were ahead of their time. They are the ones that came up with the 3 3/4 inch action figure that everyone else copied. They stopped producing Star Wars in 1985, almost 40 years ago. All of the New Hope items are over 40 years old.
I was only able to get the Hasbro B-wing by accident after I became a father of 3 kids. The kenner ones are indeed more expensive so when I saw the chance one day I got 2 of them, I use my "buy guns money" for them. 😅😅😅

I never cared for the B-Wing, it just didn’t look right and made no sense regardless of all the explanations. It also looked like the scraps left over from the other models they threw together as a joke, but George actually liked it.😁
My original script for this video included a short documentary about a Mitsubishi prototype B-wing being lost during the Battle of the Coral Sea, while onboard the Japanese carrier Shōhō when it was sunk. Then i scrapped the idea, thinking my Star Wars audience would not understand/appreciate my humor!
