Who among us (that are old enough) didn't want an entire Rebel fleet of star fighters when we were growing up? Such iconic designs and names. I still think that B-Wing comercial is one of my favorite that Kenner produced - The 2 boys flying in formation and between the trees in the backyard.
Great review, Tony. Seeing Spock still piloting your Y-Wing made me chuckle. WORLDS COLLIDE!

I bought the same Spock figure from an ebay seller in recent years, but don't have any starfighter for him to pilot. So him along with Tron, Stan Solo Slave Leia and a few of the modern Star Wars figures mixed with some vintage Kenner ones are on the modern Hasbro Return Of The Jedi Skiff gifted to me by Scuba Pete. We used to own a Y-Wing in my home. It was my brother's and he later gave it to me. I don't I hung onto it, but then it was bought 2nd hand and missing the door to the pilot section. It was also missing a bunch of other extra pieces, so it was never as much fun as owning a complete one!

When you consider the years when these toys were released it's amazing how much detail was put into the vehicles, and the changes made to the vehicles made sense. Even the non-cinematic vehicles like the Imperial Transport were cool. I haven't seen a toy line since that did such a great job of translating the look and spirit of it's source material. Kudos for having Spock in the Y-Wing.

The best part is that all of these classic ships were retooled and enhanced in Power Of The Force/Power Of The Jedi. They are great alternatives to the 80s versions. The B Wing is my fighter star wars toy.

Great review. I was always partial to the B-Wing. I loved the asymmetrical look. I tried to fly it in one of the video games, but was never any good at it. As a kid, I made my Rebel Starfighters out of poster paper and cardboard. Weapons worked so no toy survived my childhood. Those Starfighters were, and still are, great vehicles for the imagination.

At age 9 I had zero interest in the Y-Wing but got it for Christmas of 1983.
For some reason, I quickly fell in love with it and it became my starfighter ‘avatar’ for anything and everything (including descriptions from Atari game manuals, and reviews of others, such as the “Terran Hyperfighters” of Intellivision’s “The Dreadnaught Factor”, and even “The Last Starfighter”’s ‘Gunstar’ (as, to me as a kid, it was thick, bulky and tough, etc, etc)).
As I’d also got the G.I. Joe Skystriker that Christmas, I usually used that pilot (Ace) for the Y-Wing as he had a semi-modern/semi-realistic-futuristic look to his outfit and helmet).
(Note that, as much as I loved the SW films, I never ever once used the figures nor vehicles to ‘play SW’. Nope. It was always my own thing, though obviously inspired by whatever, etc.
The summers of 1984 and 1985, my Y-Wing was my #1 main ‘go-to’ toy and main ‘go-to’ Starfighter always.
The two greatest summers of my entire life, and the the toy I didn’t ask for at all was my greatest joy!
The Y-Wing remains my single fave to this day.
I still have my original and it’s still in great condition, missing only the back end of the bomb. Heh

I loved my Skystriker. There were actually two versions.
-One version was white with black rudders and had a large rubber nosetip
-The other version was light gray with matching colored rudders and a small rubber nosetip (that was mine)
And Ace actually looked more like an astronaut than an airplane pilot.

Fantastic video. Growing up me and my brothers had the Power of the Force 2 releases. I always really had a fondness to the A-Wing. Maybe because my older brothers always got to use the Y-Wing and X-Wing since they were a little more iconic and I got stuck with it.

I was born in 77 and had all three Star Wars movies on VHS, recorded from HBO when they landed there, so I've seen these probably over 100 times each because children can watch the same things over and over and not get bored. The space battles were by far my favorite part of all the films, although the Both battle was technically a ground battle it counts too. The only Star Wars tv or film that comes close to the glory of the originals battles is Rogue One, so to say I don't I really like any of the prequel or sequel films is an understatement. They really dropped the ball on the war in the stars area of Star Wars.
Hahahahaha! Look at all the wood paneling in that commercial! That stuff used to be in every house I remember as a kid.

Great video Tony, as always. Point to note though, Palitoy did release the grey X-Wing in the UK, with the battle damage stickers. But, just as with the first version, they removed the electronics. The blue activation button was there, but none of the internals, and the battery compartment was glued shut. The bulb in the nose was also removed and the body work was molded over to close the hole where the bulb used to poke through. The rest of the vehicle was the same as the Kenner release. This version was a late release in tri-logo Euro boxes.

@@AnalogToys Absolutely, and I understand why, but for clarity I wanted to point out that you mentioned that Palitoy did not change the X-Wing to the grey version, as Kenner did, when releasing the battle damaged version. When in fact they did, but used up over stock of their previous white version first for the battle damaged release, before moving to their modified grey version later on. I just wanted to clarify a possible confusion that this might of raised with other collectors who were not in the know. Thanks.

I had the Battle Damaged X-Wing Fighter, because all the standard X-Wing Fighters were sold out in the stores. Only the Battle Damaged version was available. It was a "disappointment" to me, because it felt like I was getting a used car. 🤣🤣🤣 I really wanted the lighter toned standard X-Wing. As a kid, I did not appreciate the artistry in making a Battled Damaged version.
I just now realized the Battle Damaged version was actually superior, because it had contrast between the engine intakes and the primary body hull, unlike the standard version.

Crazy to think Return of the Jedi is 40 years old this year [I remember my parents dismissing Star wars as a '5 minute fad' when I was a kid]

Great video Tony! I find the B- wing looks more like a low case t-wing.

Just did some research on the internet lol apparently the b wing has nothing to do with the letter B, the b stands for Blade so it's the blade wing. If I'm completely wrong please someone correct me.

I'm surprised that Palitoy didn't make the X-wing apart of Space Force in the Action Force universe.

I used to wish as a kid they'd make a plaster moulding set or something like that, so you could Army build Storm troopers etc [Parents wouldn't let me have multiple figures the same either]

The only problem I ever had was although they televised Luke in his c wing polo's uniform and A and B wing pilots they never released a Y wing pilot figure as seen in Reyurn of the Jedi which was a shame because some of the figures where in blink and you will miss yjem scenes.

There weren't enough to make a fleet , especially transports. I used to make my own out of milk cartons and Styrofoam

5:29 which do you guys think is the better commercial? The super pro British effort from Palitoy? Or the low budget camp from Kenner? I’m
    mixed.
PS: is Palitoy the best non-American toy company from its era or what?🤷🏼‍♂️
    👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
