Repair TWO Damaged CAT 777 Dump Truck suspension parts | Line boring & Welding
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 8 июл 2021
- This video is a job we had to repair two damaged Caterpillar 777 Dump Truck Suspension parts. These are the rear strut suspension cylinder barrels on the dump truck and the truck has been scrapped for parts. On these parts the internal bores are worn out and the outside of the eyes have been damaged after being gouged or oxy cut off the truck. To get the job done we are using our Sir Meccanica WS2 portable line boring & bore welding machine. First we need to repair the outside of the barrel eyes by grinding out the damaged material, welding up and using our 9” inch angle grinder to grind back to shape. The internal bores also need repairing as they are worn out so we get on to setting up and tack welding on the bearing mounts for positioning the line boring machine. We need to line bore out the eye material before bore welding to build up new material and then boring out to spec. The eye is then ready for facing, cutting the chamfers and snap ring grooves. The repair is completed by drilling in the holes for the grease port and cleaning up the surfaces.
In this video we are using:
- Makita 2400W 9” inch Angle Grinder
- WIA Weldmatic 500i Welder
- Sir Meccanica WS2 Portable line boring machine

Hey viewers thanks for watching todays video from our workshop! Sadly Karen lost all the timelapse footage for this job so if it feels like there's some parts skipped that's why 😞 she was gutted and hopes you still enjoy what she edited 😎👍

It's 100% ok about the time lapses; Karen puts a heap of work in so we can follow along and we should all be grateful.
@@jimsvideos7201 thank you for the support 😊
It's no problem at all. Sometimes shit happens. Keep your head up, Karen. You do very good work.
@@humancattoy7767 thank you!
A hint for Karen (love your work) from my time in IT: ALWAYS make a backup of your files BEFORE you start editing anything. That way, when (It's always when, not if) something stuffs up, you've still got the original to start again with... And work with a second copy when you can... The only thing you lose is time and effort... Learned that the hard way...
Happy Staffy at the end he had such a big smile on his face proud of him self for killing that ball good
“Good work ain’t cheap and cheap work ain’t good.”
Amen brother. I went back to mechanics school at 65 just to remind me of my limitations. I'll swap it out, won't even have a bolt or nut left over, but rebuilding is for the experts. And they cost money! The Serenity Prayer comes to mind.
Watching you work wonders on things most would probably scrap is interesting. Watching Homeless reminds me of mine I had. He did the same prance when he was happy running.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the dexterity and careful touch on display with the forklift at 9:10?!?! Mad props.
Thanks mate 😎👊💥
One thing that I've learnt from this channel is that welding isn't just for joining metal together.
Too bad you didn't learn how to spell properly. It's *"learned"* not learnt...
@@mikeznel6048 Too bad your attack on someone's spelling displays your own ignorance. Both learnt and learned are valid spellings, "learnt" is the past participle of learn in British English.
Yes, Kurtis is a human 3D printer with that MIG gun.
@@mikeznel6048 Too bad you have nothing better to do then make derogatory comments about someone's spelling when you are too ignorant to understand different language origins and appropriate variations. On top of that you posted a video to your 19 subs (WOW!) that includes this "In this build I've chossen to use common tools t" Clean your own house before commenting on others. EPIC fail.
@@mikeznel6048 you aren't very learned if you don't know that "learned" and "learnt" are both past participle and past tense forms of "learn".
Customer gets the bill after this repair - “ Holy shit ! Why so much ? My neighbors friend fixed it last time and he only charged $100! “
I had a friend who had a friend that had someone paint his car, and he got pissed off because the guy used a paint brush and house paint, and did a poor job. I asked him how much the job cost, and he said $50. I just thought, "And you were expecting a professional car paint job for $50???"
Whoever came up with the snap gauge going *through* the boring bar is a genius. It sure beats trying to freehand measure the bore with an internal micrometer.
Thank you for finally using the excellent face protection for such hazardous work!
Moral of the story, cutting corners costs more in the long run. And Homeless need a new toy.
We have a dawg like Homeless. The thing about their breed is that they never have any toys. There are bits & pieces of "toy" all around and some bits embedded in poop !
Very nice work! Quality work we can all strive to accomplish some day!
Best part of the whole video is the safety officer destroying the ball. My pitty did the same to his.
This cat is amazing I'm stuck on this channel. This man's talent is unreal.
Caught this weeks right away. Last week I was too tired and passed out lol. Also some footage is better than no footage so thanks Karen for posting at least some of it.
Hey mate thanks for watching the vid early! And Karen appreciates the support 😎👍
I can't see how you can carry on without extra staff. This channel could only drive more work to the company. As soon as a potential customer watches this channel and realises the expertise being put into these jobs along with complete transparency, they must be just praying something goes wrong so they can send in a job & watch CEE do their thing. I for one, love the idea of knowing exactly what is going on behind the scenes for a job my hard-earned cash is going into. This channel provides so much more than just interest, education and ideas for young adults thinking about engineering. This is appealing on so many levels. Love it.
Nothing is more satisfying than the method and procedures from knowledge. I reccomend another Sir Meccanica setup, now that would stop the lolly gaging lol
Great planning doesn't stand out, but certainly shows in minimum delay.
Great work both.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey mate cheers! Have a good weekend
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering likewise.
Nothing else is like the feeling of working with steel. You're a lucky fellar to be a machinist, having a good pup and a good gal filming ya while you pla..er, "work" in the shop :)
The thumbnail image looked like those eyes were chewed up and spit out. The video showed the full extent of the damage. And you brought both back to rights. Excellent.
😎👌 nicely said and thanks for watching it mate
Top tier work. Kurtis made the repair look like a work of art. Karen still made the video top notch without the time lapse. Homeless however, needs to work on those hiding skills. Can’t be a good safety if you can’t hide🤣. The CEE team setting the standard!
You two are a perfect match. Karen with your upbeat happy demeanor and Kurtis with your um.... well... your...... great wrapping skills, how's that lol. Need to change Homeless's name to IronJaws. Great video yet again.
@Kurtis, your forklift control is impressive fella. The way the part just rolled up and not over, nice.
Thanks mate had plenty of practice
Thank you for showing the setup for the line boring! Excellent work
Its amazing how many things Curtis fixes with that line bore machine.
Yeah was a great investment that bit of gear
Tools have come a long way from when I did this kind of work. I used to do the build up by hand. Great job look forward to the next one. Give Homeless a big hug for me.
hey mate yeah best thing I did was invest in the portable lineborer & bore welding setup as quickly as I could 😂👍
Those would make great lift props for The World's Strongest Man contest.
Spicy.
Kurtis...the reconstuctor Homeless.....the deconstuctor! Great work, as always!
Here again it shows the old deal just because it was a cost cutting job the first time, does not mean it won't cost you in the long run!! Excellent Job
Thank you for putting that screen in front of the camera mate. I can't watch welding without that. 👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thanks for the feedback 😊
Some bloody nice work there kurtis, and crew, knew a chap who used to say" can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear". Think you would prove him wrong .👍
thanks mate appreciate it!
The tool sure looks sticking out long ways. Sure is a work of art watching a master
Wow, new things, setting cut depth with the DI and using the boring head! The repetition of operations must have made you nuts. But, a really great finish-better than the client deserved, I’d bet. Thanks for a great view!
Mate, the late Dr Fred Hollows would be proud of those eye repairs...
Well done.

Totally amazing again I love what looked like those where fit for scrap you brought them back better than new amazing love all your videos regards from Scotland 🏴
Great workmanship mate. I find it amazing how the maintenance people, knowing the unit is to be reclaimed, ever so carefully remove it. You manage to repair their precision butchery and prior repair crap into a beautiful rework.
Karen, no worries, it happens and this still looked great.
I see Homeless got the noise makers out of the ball.
Those cylinder eyes looked like Homeless had been chewing on them when they came in. Nice job as always on the rebuild!
Homeless’ chew toys.
I think Homeless is the only animal capable of destroying things in a way he cannot repair.
I think Kurtis could repair many of those chew toys. Would cost a lot more than replacing them, though.

Thanks Kurtis , Karen and the Boss, man its very involved as in prepping for the line boring cheers .
Not sure why but i get excited when i see u have posted a new video on fridays. Seems to be my favourite thing to watch before i go to bed.
Its always amazing what someone with skill and the right tools is able to do. Making repairs on equipment that costs thousands and making it look almost new is amazing.
Outstanding work sir, your work ethic is great, your saying should be " cool ain't cheap an cheap ain't cool. Have a great weekend, cheers sir
Hey mate thanks for watching you have a good weekend too
In the racing world we have a version of that but it applies in so many engineering circles.
We always let our customer choose and the line is: There's GOOD, FAST and CHEAP... you can ONLY pick 2.
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering Lineborer, do you replace all of those bolts you tack weld onto the equipment to be repaired each time or can you grind off the welds and reuse for the next repair? I am amazed with how many tools you have in your arsenal and how much work is involved in the set-up process to even start doing the repairs. Great videos!
As always a great video. Great job Karen, Homeless and you to Kurtis
Great job Kurtis, I find myself patiently.....waiting for your next videos, I learn something everytime I watch!!! Be safe...GOD BLESS!!!
Line boring used to be one of my favourite jobs, I wish we had a line borer like your back when I was doing it but the old home made one we had did the job.
She shouldn"t feel gutted I thought it was well done as usall. You have some great skills and it always a pleasure to see how you approach different jobs. The cool thing is I have been a machinist for 10 years and now I work alone. It is nice to see someone as accomplished as you work, I always pick a thing or 2 from you.
Thanks for the Vids Mate.
Kurtis, your skills are beyond average. I enjoy watching you repair things to as good as new condition, wow just wow. Hey Karen, Hey Homeless.
You are a genius dude my grandfather was a machinist back in the day
Cheers mate
Old Homeless has some set of jaws on him! Love the longer vids, keep them coming!
As a nurse, interested in metal works, who worked in ER for quite a while, I DEMAND you to use your angle grinder only with the guard cover! Each and every one person who came into ER with (always massive!) injuries had 3 things in commen: 1. That never happened to them before. 2. They all thought that an accident like that could never happen to them. 3. They had no guard over the grinding disk! Keep up the good work, I love your channel!
You as a nurse should also know that injuries happen with cutting disc not grinding disc.
Don’t worry Karen it was an excellent job by all three of you as per usual so we could follow your progress very easily
I’m neither a machinist nor a welder, but I recognize skill when I see it. Filling those chips on the exterior was a pleasure to watch. Cheers!
What I love about this channel is the variation in weekly projects.
Awesome work as always mate.
Yeah I enjoy the variety in work and know what it's like to watch boring RUclips vids of the same stuff 🤣
when you said triple-7 a picture of the airliner popped into my head :-)
9:16 you not only know how to work with metal, you can also drive a forklift.
🤣 maybe one day!
@@CuttingEdgeEngineering I'm sure you are certified :P
I watch many of your video's from the other side of the world and I see the mount of by owners of expensive plant machinery I fail to understand with most of it down to a lack of maintenance and service. I have never realised before how much you can do to recover damaged and worn out heavy parts of heavy machinery. You obviously know your trade and have a good working knowledge of all the components you deal with and the bodging and lodging of previous bad repairs. From the amount of work you get your customers realise they are onto a good thing with you saving them many thousands of dollars in them not having to obtain new replacement parts. I continue to watch your video's with interest.
That wiggle wobble didn't last long! Another great job!
I am so impressed with how you tackle every job.
Just like Homeless tackles that job of destroying the green ball.
That squeaking? If that is a old turbine air vent. It is time drive a rod through it and end its miserable life. If you are reading this Karan. Have a couple of beers and forget about the slow-motion.
The both of you do a great job.

I've loved watching the slow destruction of the safety inspector's toy. When it first turned up, and I could see that he could barely get a hold on it, I thought - "That'll last!" :D
At the 32:40 minute mark, you introduce a new modified boring bar for facing and cutting the snap ring grooves. Tell us more about this boring bar!!! How did you come up with this idea!!?? This should be worth at least another Friday episode from CEE!!! Ingenious!! Incredible!!! How many years have you had these ideas in your head!!?? Tell us more!!!
1 Spider House down, 1 Dog toy down, 1 beer down while watching.....What could be better...cheers as always mate!!!!!
Love the arrows showing you where the damage is 😂

I worked as a pipefitter for 40 years and I can smell the grinding dust when you fire up the grinder. I enjoy watching your work. Quality and workmanship is hard to find these days. I understand why you prefer working alone.
Homeless is quite proud of tearing up the toy. They could call you the "Dirty Harry" of machine repair work that is sent to you. Without a doubt the doctor of reclamation repairs. The team wins again! Enjoyed watching. Thanks.
