    I was able to try it out with my regular customer a few weeks ago! All I could remember at the time was, "I am learning sign", but she smiled and replied, "Good!!" Now she greets me every time she walks into the store! I'm so excited to learn more and fully retain these helpful lessons!

    I don’t know if it’s just my device glitching, but the time stamps in the description are missing. So here they are:
    Yes 1:40
    No 1:46
    Maybe 1:54
    Deaf 2:05
    Hearing 2:20
    Can 2:30
    Try 2:40
    Help 2:59
    Start 3:27
    Finish 3:54
    Do 3:58
    Feel 4:31
    Go 4:52
    Have 5:00
    Live 5:12
    Life 5:33
    Make 5:49
    Want 5:58
    Need 6:10
    Will 6:23
    Work 6:42
    Know 6:52
    Don’t know (explained with ‘’don’t understand’’)
    Not 7:37
    Understand 7:45
    BONUS: Directional signs explained 8:54
    Hope this helped!

    Thank you so much for your videos. I spent 4 days learning the 100 signs. I have social anxiety so actually speaking to people is hard, so I can't imagine if I had to sign to someone, but at least I know a few things just in case.

      Thanks, I'm glad you found this series helpful. Having social anxiety must be very challenging and I hope it is something that gets better with time for you. Let me know what kind of signs you would like to learn next or of you'd like a video about overcoming anxieties

    • @OckGal
      @OckGal 4 года назад +1

      @@ChrisGorges Oh if you had a way to overcome anxiety that I haven't tried, I'd be very surprised. :D 2 years of therapy and a dozen medications didn't do it, nor did the "just ignore it" or "just go out there and socialize" methods. But even without the anxiety, I now have MS so that cuts down my socializing even more and leaves me with more time to learn ASL. :)
      I'll have to catch up on your other videos and let you know. I only just finished the 100 so plenty more on your channel to dive into! Thanks!

      @@OckGal Sorry to hear about all of that. However, never give up hope. I've known a few people that have struggled with anxiety or depression for years and years, and eventually they find that one thing that helps make life a bit easier. I actually have a student right now that suffers from severe social anxiety and trauma and is mute, however over the past few months she has been starting to put herself out there and start communicating with others. Just one small step at a time. Take the time to celebrate the small victories along the way. Anyways, hope you enjoy the videos :)

You would use the sign for help-me moving towards yourself with eye-brows lifted ... it could be signed a few different ways depending on your local community and the specific person you signing to ... but a few ways could be "you help-me can?" ... "help-me you can?" ... "can you help-me?" etc

    What about establishing a website where people learning sign language could practice sign language with another live person who is also learning sign language? Does this already exist?

    • @ChrisGorges
      @ChrisGorges  2 года назад

      Yep, we've been providing weekly ASL group practice sessions on Zoom since the beginning of the pandemic and still have them available for anyone to join every Wednesday at 5PM Pacific aslbasics.com/asl-group-practice-sessions/

    I'd like to know how to explain to a deaf person that I am learning ASL without seeming like a faker. I know I would never be able to carry on a conversation unless they signed slowly. I'm a quick learner but I want to tell them that I'm being sincere without being awkward. Any tips?

    • @ChrisGorges
      @ChrisGorges  2 года назад

      Just be authentic and honest. Communicating with someone in an unfamiliar language is always going to be awkward at first and that's okay. One thing that can backfire is giving off the impression that we are more fluent than we currently are and we may end up being even more embarrassed in the end. Just go ahead and do your best and make sure you focus on achieving the clearest communication possible with he current skills you have... with time and experience you'll continue to improve and get better and better.

    Do you only sign with your non-dominant hand? Or can you sign with your dominant?

    Thank you for this! I have a question, I’m learning ASL because I’m autistic and need to be able to communicate better on the days where I’m nonverbal. How would i be able to sign that i am able to hear, but not able to talk?

    • @ChrisGorges
      @ChrisGorges  Год назад

      You could sign "I hearing, but talk can't." You can do a quick google search for each of those words in ASL and then string them together to make your sentence. I hope that helps!

      The sign shown in the video is to identify yourself as a hearing person (noun) and a different sign would typically be used to describe you hearing something (verb)

      That's great, here are some online ASL dictionaries that you might find really helpful where you can type in a word and it'll show you a sign. Keep in mind, often times there is more than one way to sign a word, but it can be a good way to get started learning the words you need aslbasics.com/free-asl-resources/ Feel free to check out some of my previous videos as well where I go through various topics such as colors, basic phrases, animals, and things like that
