  • Last week I was once again interviewed by Bjørn Andreas Bull-Hansen on his youtube channel. Afterwards I interviewed him for this channel and in this video we talk about Vikings, his novels, self sufficiency, modern day Vikings and of course his youtube channel and why there seems to be such a large demand all around about topics that Bjørn and I both like to talk about.
    I hope you enjoy our little talk at his home!

      They are also white, and don't face the same level discrimination and mistreatment that racial minorities face, especially in America. Nobody is condoning looting and rioting, but if you don't understand why it happened then you are simply validating the argument that racism exists by virtue of dismissing the entire scope of the protests as nothing more than the work of unruly mobs of violent criminals

    The Vikings were not the brutes they are portrayed to be, amd thank you Sturla for sharing that small part of history with us. The PC crowd has tried so hard to taint the memory of those great warriors, experienced and seasoned explorers, early settlers of America, and all around Real Men, of their rightful legacy and their place in history. What an insightful, calm, informative and pleasant talk between you two. I really enjoyed IT! 😊😊😊

    • @MiaogisTeas
      @MiaogisTeas 4 года назад +3

      Not so much the modern PC culture, but the early modern Christians who wrote about them after the Norse and others had been Anglicized and/or subsumed into their belief system. A similar thing happened to the Huns, Goths, Celts and many Germanic people - too many to list here… 😅
      Then came the romantic notions of the 18- & 1900s. The people making discoveries back then didn't help because they may have been digging, but they weren't trained professional archeologists, so many of them made up stories which became the accepted truth, like what happened with dinosaur fossils.
      Now it's easy for people who have ulterior motives to use the misconceptions and biased opinions of the past to give weight to their arguments. It happens to every culture, even to this day. Take the Han Chinese for example.
      Han are just one of 56 recognized ethnic minorities living in China, yet they claim to represent what it is to be Chinese. They hold most of the positions of power, their culture is what is seen on TV and they believe that everyone else would still be living in poverty if it wasn't for them. They never stopped to ask those people if they wanted to live like the Han do. In the future, when people talk about China they will be talking mainly about what the Han have done, and if any of China's other cultures are mentioned, they will be talking about the Han version of events, just like we talk about the Viking age from the medieval Christian and mostly Mercian perspective.
      Basically if someone is using less than a paragraph to describe an entire culture, they either don't know what they're talking about or they have a reason to obscure the truth.

Og så foregår det ude i den smukke norske natur, man kan fornemme harmonien. Vikings were men's men and they were driven by what they believed in. They were brave seafaring explorers, with trading skills, self reliance and proven succes as strong warriors. Great ship builders they were and got the name "Pirate" because of their long overseas journey's. Their independant lifestyle of choice is maybe what drew people to admire them. So many people in our time feel a loss of self reliance, a lifestyle discouraged by Governments and in place of it a "System" into which we have been brainwashed to follow, one of failure for many thousands across this planet. So many homeless or without the means to own their own home. A high percentage of humanity without the skills of survival and ability to provide for themselves or their family. Humanity now which relies on Corporations for their food, clothing, heat, electricity, a system meant to control, to fail for many and a "System" in which they must fit into to survive.
    The Viking was a tower of strength and courage while being admired and feared at the same time. With these uncertain times of failing economies, mistrust in Government and the division in our fellowman, is it any wonder there are those looking for an alternative outlet. An escape from this reality or maybe to connect to others who offer up information and ideas they can look up to, be guided by. I don't know if this could be a reason but I do know I wish I was more like a Viking with abilities I knew would protect my family and others when the SHTF if it comes to that. The series Vikings on Netflix ....such a great series and I marvelled at the thought of living in those times yet unsure of being a part of the ironhearted killing needed and displayed on both sides needed for coquest and survival. You both represent the times and people of those long ago times and people love the connection. Take care my friends and see you in Valhalla. 🏹

    Loved this. Great video guys. I have been studying Norse/vikings for about 8 years now since finding Norse in our Celtic lineage. In those years I have joined many groups on social media to get in touch with what others think of what the Norse were socially and psychologically. Because I have studied the Sagas, and other studies that the qualities of Morals, Principles and Values of the Norse through those Sagas never would be related as what is being promoted in the entertainment industry. The "wives" of these men had to be strong to keep the home fires burning and the farms and industry that they had built going while the men were away. Knowing that there was a good chance they could be widowed They knew what they needed to do and what needed to be done. They had to be male and female of the house while the men were gone. When the men returned, these women didn't turn into some withering waif that would fawn to be needed to have a man around or would let a man to be violent towards them like a caveman would say, "Woman, give me food, give me sex or clean up". I am sure the reality would be if a Norse man did that to their wife when they returned, that man would be walking around with his butt kicked with a weaving beater stick shoved up his back side! There must have been a deep respect and honor that they had for each other to be able to live that way at that time. I have left many of those groups because the image of the Norse were uncontrolled beasts with no regard for women. But I am so lucky to have found a handful of these groups that have the same theories as I that the social and family circles had Morals, Principles and Values within the home and community environment. We do have the odd individuals in these groups who tend to lean toward the Hollywood image, but we are slowly changing their minds, or as they say today "enlightened". But I believe a lot what you have to say about this with chivalry and honor. But it is difficult to change a visual impression to a theological impression. Thanks again guys!

    When will we be able to get Bjorn's novels in English? Given the popularity of Amazon's fun (but historically inaccurate) TV series they would be a massive hit in the UK and US.

    Your video's are fascinating! I recently took a dna test and match some interesting ancient samples, such as early Icelandic settlements. The most interesting matches were the remains of three Danish males who fell during the St Brices massacre in Oxforshire, England. Please keep the videos coming! :)

    I'm a new subscriber after seeing you two together on RUclips on Bjorn's channel. Now that you bring up Vikings, Turkey, and history, I will be even more interested. I have a permaculture type garden and believe in food storage, but as of late have fallen in love with Turkey after watching many movies on Netflix. So with that said and my DNA linking back to Norway, Germany, England, Estonia, and that general area, I am even more interested. I love listening to books versus reading them. I'm in the USA and live close to DC and drive to FL and audibles are what I listen to so I'm not bored driving. I would be interested in buying your books if they are in an audible format on iBooks, Audible or Amazon. I very rarely comment as well, but love history, so will definitely be watching for your RUclips uploads!

    When will your books be translated in English? Think of all the books you would sell!

      I was thinking about this, and with English being such a popular language, if they publish them in English right away, there will be less of a market for other languages. That's probably why he's having to petition for them to be published in English.

    Hey Sturla, how's it going? Yesterday I finished watching all your videos. Really interesting stuff. Already waiting for more! I'd like to get a historical overview of the Vikings before and after Christianism became the norm in our lands. Also, it would be good to know what we lost and what we gained from it. And as I'm German it would be clarifying to understand in detail how much the Vikings influenced my heritage. It seems in my heart that really strong and beautiful values were lost and it's time to make them thrive again. Vikings unite!
