Surface Duo 2 not getting good reviews but I still feel Microsoft has a good idea. When Google comes out with its two-screen OS I think Microsoft will have better software two work with. I Hope Microsoft staying with the Duo, the 3rd will be a charm.
Today the Second came Out and you say Already Hope the third... Brah. Microsoft sucks. I am sad to say because i was very Happy when they annaunced the Duo 2 Bit the camera bump Kills IT all.
Because popular sponsored reviewers and RUclipsrs would go for Samsung's foldable screen smartphone, simple as that.

I feel most of the people that are reviewing the duo don't have any ideia of the audience and the use cases it's aiming for. It will certainly not be great if you are expecting it to be an iphone...
Imo it's not surprising cause the device is fairly niche
i actually like the Duo's 👍👌
it would've been awesome if you could have the dock showing al the time at the bottom even if you're in an app, that would be a killer multitasking feature

After folding it completely the camera bump hits, what if you press in the corner, or seat on it, will it break or crack the screen?

Excited to get my has on the Duo 2, hopefully the weak USB port surround has been strengthen.

Hopefully the build quality aroudn the USB-C port has been improved alot. Still frustrating that Microsoft still have unpolished issues at launch, even after installing the update. Though at least it is already way better in terms of stability and reliability than the first launch of Surface Duo. So that is a huge improvement at least.
The problem with DUO is it got released very late. If Microsoft released it 5-6 years back (before folding phones) then its gonna be a game changer device for them as no one has seen anything like this before. And then later they should follow-up with a flexible screen after some 3-4 iterations. Now we already have phones with flexible/folding screen and everyone will start compare with devices like Galaxy fold. For the DUO to succeed Microsoft should drop the two screen approach and should consider a folding screen instead.
The problem with Microsoft is that either they bring devices that are so ahead of its time or the ones that are very late to the party.

@@TonyJenn I agree if you have 1st rate software and an all in approach on support, but to compete against brands that have owned the mobile space for more than a decade with a half is ok approach is a roadmap for failure
The lack of Fluent animations seems a bit jarring after getting used to Windows 11.

Wondering how they intend to handle the Android 12 update if the software isn't quite ready for 11 still. My pixel 4 is fully updated to 12 as of the last day or two. But I've also submerged it in takeout ramen the week prior so looking for a new phone soonish and was hoping to see MS release something that was a bit more polished and ready. Still feel burned after my L950 never even got what felt like finalized software.
I have Android 10 on my OG Duo and getting Android 11 or 12 won't change my life one bit. Just like my mom having Android 10 her cheap Moto phone has not impaired her life...

I really do believe that this could beat out the concept of foldable phones such as the Galaxy Z Fold range. The middle region is getting so thin to a point that the two glass screens and the ability two have just one good sized screen is better than having a delicate folding phone with 2x the amount of cameras and engineering.
Watch MKBHD's video about it, he makes some great points on why this is a flop idea...
This will definitely fail, and Microsoft will kill it

Couldn't agree more. I used to have Samsung's foldable screen before I replaced it with my current LG V50 with its DualScreen case. Let's just say that I won't be going back to foldable screen smartphone anytime soon.

Prefer gen 2 tbh, more solid design vs gen 1 where you can easily stick your finger nail under the outside panels.

6:56 OMFG the first thing we see is you trying to swipe down the notification center but getting the search bar instead. What a massive let down right there, that shit has been a problem on Duo since day 1 and they still haven't changed it! Sad!

Unfortunately I don't think any of the other reviewers have understood who this device is for and what the needs are for this user. They seem to be stuck in some influencer world where we just be playing games and snapping photos all day. This is a productivity phone and as such has a huge appeal. Many hours a day are spent on teams calls and slab phones are not ideal for these, your screen becomes unusable for anything else, dual screen solves this. Working from home, we have a laptop and not some mega screen setup, this device allows to present while having notes and chat open on the phone to engage and better present. Man I could go on and on. This is one small example upon many. Anyways I think they need to step out of their current situation, speak to people who this is actually meant for and base the review upon that.
I believe Windows central still understand that so look forward to the full review.
Exactly. Why on earth do people even bother listening to complete strangers who:
1) can't get a real tech job,
2) have never worked in the real world,
3) know nothing about what working adults need
4) have obvious allegiances toward certain brands
5) lack detailed knowledge of Windows/Android if they are an Apple user (visa versa)
6) make more money by saying positive(negative) things about popular brands,
7) make less money by saying positive things about less popular brands
My OG Duo is the best tech device I have ever purchased.
Microsoft is the one that stuck a huge camera wart on the back, ironically making it a bear to use as a camera in the process since you can't use the camera in single screen mode.
Talk about being stuck/blinded in a world where they think people are snapping photos all day.
Microsoft has no idea what the Duo is or ought to be.
@@nickthaskater Obvious that you've never owned the Duo. The Duo is definitely harder to shoot with, but not because of a camera wart. It has no warts. The Duo 2 is, relative to that, much easier to shoot with (mostly because it has back-facing camera = a wart), so MS had a good idea of the problem and basically fixed it with the Duo 2.
@@carlw6247 The Duo doesn't have a camera wart. The Duo 2 does. The Duo can be used as a camera when folded to single screen mode. The Duo 2 can't. Ergo, the Duo 2 is a cumbersome shooter for modestly improved photo quality.
They fixed nothing.
Some of the animations could be switched off by default I reckon. Developers options?

You probably need a google account, if nothing else to install apps. (Unless you want to side load everything.)
But, just do what I did;
Make a burner account.
Definitely love the idea from the practical side, but I'm in no hurry to replace my current LG V50 with its detachable DualScreen case.

@@RK-um9tu Lol please, how much of a joke? It's very practical since I can easily detach the case when I need it. Also, it recently got Android 11 update and that automatically grants the new Screen+ Desktop Mode, which is a massive improvement over the previous Android 10 Desktop Mode.
I have this phone as well. We were ahead of the curve mate lol.

I’m an iPhone user (much preferred) and this has me hooked! Might consider getting a future version of this and going back to just an iPod touch (or unlocked iPhone) in the future for certain apps, but not now since I have the 13 and have no plans to upgrade for a long time.

That camera module looks like a 3yo phone. Microsoft used to have the most competitive cameras on lumia...

I think the biggest con for me is that they don't have a micro SD slot. I mean, c'mon MS ... Get with the program. I really would like this thing, I could really use it when I drive from TX to Cali ... Map on one side and RUclips on the other ... PERFECT. Buuuuut ... No SD card slot?

Also, having the text in between the screens cut off is terrible user experience too. I dont see where having 2 cellphone displays stapled side by side benefits the user that much. I love the idea of a display that folds out when you need it to do stuff. But this is a display that you unfold just to do stuff.

I doubt that. But that said, Windows 11 itself can be used as a mobile OS without too much changes.

List of devices that should not have a camera bump. Why does it even need a camera on the back? I thought that was the point of 2 screens. Just put a standard and ultra wide on one of the screen sides.
Atleast it has NFC bit no qi? The USB C port is centered but these a minimum expectations.
Fully opening it is satisfying......if you're willing to look past the giant gap. Who wants to bet the camera bump makes a huge imprint on the other side.
The pumper looks like it's for the old model and the old bumper looks like it's for this one with the wedge.
I stick to my samsung galaxy s10 phone for now as Samsung's got better cameras that can zoom the surface duo design is great but I stick with samsung for now

I saw MKBHD's review and he mentioned the screens curve on the inside (near the hinge) and that when you're reading stuff, it's cut off and unreadable. What were Microsoft thinking?

Should have just put Windows 11 on it. It's entirely possible. See the Windows on Lumia project which runs Windows 10X (11) including Type C video out for a full blown Windows desktop, telephony, and messaging on ancient Lumia hardware.
The Duo 2 is a shitty Android competitor. But an ultra-thin pocket PC that also happens to be a phone? That would have negated all of these niggles.
Ikr. I keep my Lumia 950 XL for LumiaWoA project and it's a belter. Mind you, I'm not ready to go for Windows 11 yet.

This is upsetting: what's the point of pre-ordering (the day of announcement even) and not getting the product the day it's launching!? I love your reviews but it pisses me off that I didn't get mine yet. 🙄 Never pre-ordering again unless I know there's an advantage!
