I find sweet spot training works for me, but then as Matt says, as an amateur with a full time job I have maybe 12 hours to dedicate. 2 or 3 of those would be swimming, similar for running, so that leave 7 or 8 for cycling. I'm training for full ironman, but I don't think zone 2 training really does much with the limited time I have available. Also at 61, I feel that intensity is probably more important then when I was younger. Using mostly my wattbike means that at least I don't have to stagger too far when my body has had enough :)
