thanks Matt :) this is great :)
Have you ever done experiments measuring oxygen uptake and power output to confirm that any of these techniques or drills improve efficiency?
I'm 30 years in and I'm still always thinking about pedalling. Not enough talk about pedaling form.
I like the HJC too. I do sometimes sense it lifting off my head sometimes. Does that mean it doesn’t suit me aerodynamically?
Over unders have really helped my fitness. I generally do 2 sessions. Either 1 min just over and 1 min just under threshold or 1 min well over threshold and 4 mins under. I don’t think the specifics of individual sessions are that important, it’s being consistent and how you progress the key sessions over time!
Is that cadex bike your on sold to the public it looks incredible
Yes mate we sell these buddy
Thank you for sharing these insights and information once again. Well apreciated!
My pleasure!
What oval rings was that last rider running?
There Osymetric
My handmade helmet is more aero than these 🤦🤦🤦
I have a Drone. It's an incredible helmet, it actually feels like you have some level of safety with it on your head. The other thing I noticed, like you noted, is the ventilation. If you have your head in a good position, you'll feel the air coming out the tail and down your back. It's a nice reminder while riding. One thing to note, the helmet is NOT certified safe in the USA, so if you do a race where they are checking for the stickers/model, you'll get scolded and have to swap.
Yes I’d agree with that mate
This protruding bottle holder on the handlebars, pointing towards the stomach, could kill a cyclist in the event of a crash 👽 It's nonsense where cycling is heading now, I prefer Xlabs Gorilla cage to have a drink behind the saddle, all I need is a tube on my back without losing aero to allow me to use it without having to reach for it with my hand.
I've done a video on tyres, I'm back on 25c tyres 100psi Rim Brakes. Fastest set up hands down. Discs, and lower tyre pressure and tubeless is hands down the slowest set up I've used and by far the most dangerous.
Man I wish I could find a version of you in the mid Atlantic of the usa.... I think a lot of fitters are a "fit by numbers" approach and its tough.
We just had a customer fly in from New York for similar reasons!
Love it Matt. A 15min video on a TT setup, what was the elapsed time for the full set up? Thanks!!
Matt, I can testify that your TT bikefit approach and the training hints you gave me at my consultation with you really do work! I've been able to record pb's on my local courses this summer as a result. I can't thank you enough and recommend to anyone wanting to go fast to come and book a session.
Great to hear! Love it Andy
You need a to take a road movie with that jewel !
This is a very interesting topic for me as I’ve recently moved from the UK to Sweden, and whilst the roads out here are amazing, because of the sheer amount of open fields out in the countryside, at some point of almost every ride I get absolutely battered by the wind, which forces me to go full aero in headwinds if I want to keep going at a decent pace, but I find that with tailwinds I can ride with a much more relaxed position and lower power as relatively speaking it feels like air resistance has been removed and my speed remains high, however what you’ve said here almost sounds line the opposite. It sounds like you recommend focusing on an aero position for tailwinds. My experience says otherwise, but I completely appreciate that you’re the expert on this topic, so I must be going wrong somewhere? What am I misunderstanding?
I’m sure there wouldn’t be the amount of Trinity’s sold without him ❤
Thank you for sorting out the sound. Paul😊
No worries! Sorry we hadn't noticed originally.
Put giant on the map
Very little, if any, useful or practical information in this video. "How to go uphill as fast as possible" ? Just try to uphill as fast as possible. That's the basic message of this video.
Train On a Vintage Steel Road Bike, Race On Carbon 🤙🤙
Trinity’s are brilliant!
Top man Matt ❤
Means a lot buddy 👊
Love your videos..... As a fellow TT racer, I can't get enough information and absorb everything I can.
I appreciate that! Thanks mate
Hello! What if I have long legs and with the proper saddle height (inseam - 10 cm, or inseam*0.883) the knee angle is about 165 degrees? Do I need to lower the saddle further to reach at least 150-155 degree knee angle or leave it as is?
Dude, we’re no longer 16 years old, smashing out the Coalville Wheelers evening 10s, that’s for sure …. 😂
I am 73. In my mind, I am still fit and strong. In reality, I can rarely do back to back "hard" days. I might want to do them but the body is not willing. I might be riding every day but the recovery days are far more in the planning than they used to be.
I'd say (at 62.5) you can still go quite hard in sessions but the next day I sometimes feel really flat and need a full rest day. So, reduced frequency of hard/fast training days is my take away as an ageing athlete.
Oh just wait until 60. That seems lick the point when every year it just gets a bit harder
Hi Matt, pad to lever measurement,is there a UCI concern? Or is that an issue in UK
Only for brtish tt champs . All other races in uk none uci . We do a lot of uci fits but this was not one of them
43 ASC profile design extensions ,Tri only ? or TT application?(UCI legal).thanks Matt.
There uci also mate so no problem
Grand chapeau pour toi et François
I’ve got front-end envy now! Seeing you on Ruth’s bike funniest part of the video 😂
Hi Matt, how did you get the Pro Vibe bars to exit the hydraulic lines into the Contact SLR stem? Was the hole in the back of the bar big enough for 2 hoses going into stem?
I had to adapt a little bit by making the hole bigger
nice bike! how did you manage to put break cables directly to stem with pro vibe handlebar? is there space in handlebar or you had to mak hole in carbon handlebar?
Hole is pre done . Just had to make the hole a bit bigger
Thx for reply
I just spent over £200 on a bike fit in Manchester with a PhD physio that has completely changed my life. Second ride after the fit I snapped my achilles tendon, tore a ligament behind the knee and damaged my hip. I have been off work for just over a week now and as a contractor I am NOT being paid. I will never touch a bicycle again I'm just too afraid now.
Sorry to hear mate I hope you’ll get better soon. I too had massive right knee pain after my first ride after the fit and wrote to my fitter immediately. In my case it was too much too soon (distance and intensity). I’ve returned to the same fitter periodically with the same bike over the past 3 years and have been surprised myself how much my bike has changed from the first fit. Can’t agree more with Matt about adaptations over time and easing into it, we all know we can’t help cranking it up.
Thanks Matt and Ruth 😊 which saddle is Ruth using there?
Looks like the gebioMized Stride
Yes it’s the stride soft
#calfgains
Machine
I think rotor do bigger than a 56. At least a 58
Yes they do not in oval 👊
cda 0.17 😆. i am happy if i get 0.20
Thanks mate
If your ds crank arm is at 12 o'clock where should the chain ring be adjusted to? Should the oval ends run about 2 & 8 o'clock say?
Hi Matt,My height is 182.5cm, myInner leg length is 88.5cm, and my arm span is 190cm. The seller here suggested that my size ML. Is that okay?
I’m 1.81 and ride a large . But I like the extra reach of the top tube . I don’t like loads of stackers so always go for the large bike
@@mattbottrillcoaching thank you so much for your suggestion😁
Love my Rotor Q rings. Plus front shifting on Di2 is hardly a downgrade. I just prefer feel, that is all, especially when climbing in saddle.
2014 called , it wants its ovals back.
Agreed, i thought this must be a really old video at first.
There's a bike-fitter near me that fits ovals for people with bad knees,no other reason.
Would love to see the data on oval vs round! Even though we trust Matt completely 😊
Thanks Matt :) what was the tt saddle in your right hand at about 3:53 into this?
That’s stride soft
I like the good old phrase. Ask yourself if you could be going harder..there's only one correct answer...maybe.
So many female triathletes have double barrel surnames.
Way higher average than the average in the population overall.
Now this is some sound advice, explaining the real important factors
Thanks Matt :) I just bought a Cadex frameset and was hoping to put a 56 on it, but the spec says 55 max. With a 1x could you go larger?
The 55 is probably the limit due to how high the front derailleur can go. You certainly could go bigger with 1x. Giant customer service will certainly be able to tell you something.
Great video. For a helmet like the Oakley Aro7, the bowling ball with no tail, is that even worse than a short tail helmet, or does the rounded shape give you more flexibility to move at the expense of pure speed? I really like it, I can see out of it, but the gap from my head to shoulders is less than ideal and I always reach for my long tail out of paranoia.
