About The Serenity Dagger
The blade will be 16 inches long with an aggressive taper, multiple fullers (blood grooves) on the ricasso, and one main fuller running down the blade. The blade will be made of a one-of-a-kind mosaic Damascus.
The fittings will be gun-blued steel with gold inlays and a new technique I've been working on, Damascene.
The handle is going to be extra special. Mom, Josh, and I just traveled 2,400 miles in search of beautiful stones and found a wonderful piece of purple/lavender Charoite. This will be my first knife to have a stone handle. I've wanted to add stone handles to my art knives for many years now and I'm so excited that the time has finally come to give it a shot!

Kyle bro i have to let you know, your videos and just your pure attention to detail plus uniqueness is so utterly satisfying and inspiring please never stop making these videos you're the fuel for my future blacksmithing goals
Your work is awesome, but would be very helpful to our mortal minds if you added some popups to the video with the units in metric, takes a lot of time converting them, specialy the temperatures, that doesn't convert right away from degrees °F to °C. Thanks!
You freak the scary crazy out of my wife with your wired faces 😂
@KyleRoverKnives, Do you watch donut media on RUclips? Random question. Also, really nice work and excellent job explaining everything!
I'm not any kind of blacksmith, I watch your channel to zone out. But having watched other knife makers, I kind of feel like you're a grandmaster or something. I can't even zone out, you're too good at it and these are incredibly fun to watch.
Ye he is a master smith, I think that’s the highest level you can get in the abs, American bladesmith society?
@@barnett25 oh yeh he is definitely very very skilled
Totally agree with you! This is true art, technical professionalism.
Exactly what u said
I watched this one video and was not impressed. Zero hammer work means zero skill. Not to mention the annoying nerd gestures. Not watching ever again.
You are definition of quality over quantity when comes to RUclips.
I love when your older videos pop up. Can see how your technique ebbs and flows depending on what problem pops up and seeing how your mind works is very intriguing.
That may be the most beautifully structured Damascus pattern I have ever seen on blacksmith RUclips. A true piece of art even before being polished into it's final form.
I'm waiting on the grinds. It'll morph toward the knife edge and be unbelievable!
This man is already a mad scientist among blade smiths. Imagine the breadth of metallurgical knowledge that Mr. Royer will have amassed in another 20 years.
I love how your enthusiasm and passion for what you do always comes through in your videos. Also, much respect to your brother for his skill in shooting and editing the videos.
Was that Dad's shadow waving at us @6:55? :)
Your mosaic damascus is always super impressive, as is your patience to create such masterpieces. Always inspiring Kyle
Oh man... this is TRULY a beautiful pattern! Can't wait to see the finished product!
Man Kyle you are such a master, love your videos and your work is unparalleled. Beautiful. Can't wait to see the completion of this project and many more to come! Thank you for sharing your work with us!
It’s shiny when you wire wheel it! 😂🤪 I’m catching up on these videos and I like the longer forging cuts where Kyle is talking.. I know it’s hard to do with all the noise but you guys do a great job 👍🏻
I watched you transfer the pattern from the end to the side and I still dont understand how 😂 I think you are a wizard good sir . Your father must be so incredibly proud , you’ve gotta be one of if not THE most talented bladesmith I’ve ever seen 👏👏👏
The way you hunch over your neck to get a straight view into your press would make certain personnel of Notre-Dame look like they never had back issues
Awesome build as usual!
I like the shade of the dad waving Hi!
You guys and your Damascus, hahaha.... I would say came out AMAZING, but all your work is always a step above. Hope all is well, have a great weekend, say hey to everyone & take it easy.
2:47 the mosaic pattern is beautiful, well worth all the hard work
Keep up the great work legend
Thank you for taking the time to share your expertise in these videos: I have watched hundreds of forging videos but yours are easily the most informative and used-friendly. Thank you! Great work!
I'm addicted addicted to your channel dude
Absolutely love your videos. Just perfect length and the quality is great. Also very informative. Thanks for your great work
Thanks for explaining the process it made it a lot easier to wrap my head around the process in three dimensions. I enjoy watching these types of videos but most people just go about it and don't explain how they're creating the patterns they do.
Drinking instant coffee strained from an old gym sock.👌
That pattern is insane!!!! Sooooo good!!!!!!!!
Once again Kyle your amazing pattern is so cool. So far beyond any of the other smiths out there. Not to say there are not great smiths but your just on another level. In a few 100 years your stuff will be in museums.
@KyleRoyerKnives___ is this spam or really you replying
@KyleRoyerKnives___ excited to hear from you. Loving the new build.
Excellent pattern- I'm excited to see the finished product!
I'm sure that your instructional videos are great, but I watch these for your super-human dedication and talent. I'll never make a knife but I appreciate the craft so much. I hope you're able to make these videos in a way that's still worthwhile for you. You're a valuable addition to the creative community. Thanks.
Dear Kyle, Really amazing to see your passion translate in to such beautiful and creative works of art! Please keep doing what you do! Watching from Dubai
Yes! Been waiting for this upload!
The fine detail in the pattern is incredible. I was hoping nothing happened to that pattern during the overheat. Kyle, the look on your face gave made my heart skip a beat when you first pulled it from the furnace. But it looks good. Cant wait for the next one.
Go Team Royer!
Would love to see your version of a Damascus Katana done your way or the traditional Japanese way. Would be an amazing video/videos
Beautiful pattern and can't wait to see the finished project!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
AMAZING work as usual sir, can't wait to see the finished product. 👍👍
super excited to see how the stone handle turns out!
you are the forged and fire ultra omega grand master champion! Thats the most beautiful blade I have seen someone make
I find this kind of things fascinating thank you so much for making content we can learn from
You are a true master of your craft!! I can't get enough!
Wow this build is sooo beautiful ! Thank you for this content.
That ventilation system is awesome. Another great video. Thank you.
Thanks again boys! Another amazing video of an amazing process.
Your skill and craftsmanship is in a other level
Holy crap! That pattern is ridiculous! Great work.
Gorgeous!!
You're watching a master at work!!
Beautiful!!!
that pattern turned out beautifuly! great job on the damascus!
In my earlier days I had a few half forged blades melt in half. Good to see it didn't happen to your master smith level billet.
Thanks for sharing your stunning work. Many moons ago Daryl Meyer taught me how to make mosaïc damascus. After spending the better part of a week with him, I already knew life would be too short for all new ideas to be worked out. 👀
Да, Дэрил сделал большой шаг в дамаске, и открыл путь для многих других.
Узор дамаска? 🙄 Сколько снежинок на вершинах гор - и ни одна из них не повторяет другую. Так и узоры металла нельзя сделать все.
Love your work and craft manship skills!
Looking super cool
Amazing work...
"Pretty sparks", similar level to me building sandcastle in the engineering lab.
You have a passion for what you do, it is so relaxing to see a blade born from your hands. Quick question: can you also make butchwr knives? I noticed they tend to be a thinner blade that probably helps with sharpness?
Great video as always.
Turned out super fancy
, great work ❤
That pattern is mint!
Surface grinder tip. Tap on work piece with your closed hand. You'll feel it bounce. You can use paper to shim it until you get a nice solid feel. No bounce. If not the magnet will pull out warp and then pop right back up.
Dude that pattern is 🔥
Your watching a Master do its work....and then realise that there is a knife that you made in the video on the magnetboard in the kitchen :D
Haha :D
That pattern you forged is just purely amazing!
Beautiful peice you made i bet it felt amazing uncovering that stunning pattern.
Thanks
Learnt a new word; "chatoyance". Thank you.
Thanks for the awesome video. You are a amazing Blacksmith, and artist.
Kyles got himself some nice new britches
Wow, you got a new electric heat oven that’s incredible. I just got myself a paragon. Heattreat oven.can’t wait to use it
17:00 The ducting system is way cool. Have you considered adding a collector to the external blower? You could send the dust to Green Beetle and he might make a knife out of it. It would be a true, 'powdered steel' knife. LOLZ
Amazing as usual
I love to think about you in the old times and you would of been the king's blacksmith making the king's weapons you're truly a master craftsman mate keep up the awesome work
Very Adventure Time, waving snail moment there. Even done in shadow. Love it !
i'm following your detail work ... & artistic sure !!
Nicely done
Love that ducting system, a lot of thought has definitely gone into it. Great video 👍. Regards from Down Under.
Kudos to Kyle-the level of detail and quality is insane-you should have been a surgeon
9:08 That lobster stance is gonna break your back someday
Man I wish I could come stay a weekend and learn some this stuff to get me started .this metal work is awesome .👍the coffee finish gets me every time
Unbelievable! Good work brother!
I can't wait to see the final form of this blade!!!🤌🤌🤌
Hmmhmm gotta love the horizontal band saw!
High quality content! Nice ventilation system Pops installed💨
WOW!! You outdid you’re self Kyle. Super cool pattern
Great job my friend
You should see how turning the grinder 90 degrees affects warping, you may have to mirror the blank instead of just spinning to keep the direction of the grind the same.
Oh holy crap! What a great build! The suspense is killing me!
Idk where the "shiny when you wire wheel it" came from originally, but it's become one of my favorite parts of these videos. It's like I already know what he's about to say. Lmfao. Awesome work as always buddy. Great channel
I would have to agree with Alistair you are the grandmaster. ! 👏👏👏👏👏👏🙏
Way cool Kyle! Love it! Your dads ventilation system reminds me of the woodshop at my old high school in Idaho, you could barely walk around if you were tall haha. About half of us whanged our heads on the vent pipes. Love your vids and blades! Keep up the great work!
Much love from Dave in Alaska!
The Rolls Royce of knife makers.
*waves back to shadow man @**6:55*
Very well done as always! I personally prefer the look before that last 4 way.
You’re obviously a visual learner as my wife would say (she’s a teacher!) … but damn, I could never visualize this! Well done! Crazy good!
Nice to see your shadow waving at you Kyle when you’re grinding off the sheet metal 😉
I've Been wanting to learn how to fit stone handles for years. The handle and it's design scheme is more interesting than the Damascus to me.
thanks for this video excelent
We use a cobalt based liner in our furnaces in the steel industry that the steel rests on in the furnace. That being said it is mainly due to wear, but also due to the thermal conductivity being closer to that of steel. The old furnace most likely has so many impurities in the surface that it has a better thermal conductivity the new one is just pure refractory and is insulating the bottom surface of the steel. Probably need to either put a sacrificial piece of that sheet metal under there or invest in a cobalt liner, or in traditional kiln work they make thinner shelves made from refractory that will hold the item up and allow it to more evenly heat and cool.
Also while surface grinding you are taking off the surface of the steel which may have a different grain size according to which side is getting ground. The side facing up in the furnace most likely has a tighter structure than the other side. I don't see any cooling method on the top of the surface grinder either so most likely the metal is cooling down more slowly on the top vs the side hitting the surface grinder this also leads to thermal warping unless you are taking long breaks or heating the magnet to match the temperature of the surface. Small blades most likely wouldn't have that problem due to a lower surface area to volume ratio, same thing with thicker materials.
such a beauty, the coffee does a good job...
Mr ROYER keep doing and good luck.
hey, idk if you know but you bring smiles to people's lives'
I feel like I'm looking through a kaleidoscope when I look at the end of the billet... This is some of the stuff I wish I could see working on guitar detail and the like...
If I ever win the lotto I’d love to get a set of professional chef set from you. You do an amazing job. Then we’d chat about dream projects I’d love to have done.
Got the same brand oven, but 45" with the gas kit. It died after using it a couple of times, took me six months to find a technician able to diagnose and repair it.
Contacted the manufacturer & they admitted fault but refused anything further than an oops so sorry 🤷♂️
Best info on any of your videos yet, great info 🔥🔥🔥
Just found your channel epic
Woulda liked to see a sample of what the pattern looks like when it's cut long ways.
I absolutely love your designs, and seeing the process of achieving such masterwork quality blades. One thing worries me though. Seeing your videos I have often noticed your posture is often very hunched over, and over time could cause significant back and neck issues ending your career as a master bladesmith prematurely. Take care of your spine so you can be doing this still in another 20 years.
