Ive been loving my ally, but I do wish the screen was just a little bit bigger, some of these pc games are clearly not made for tiny screens, so my eyes are struggling to read small text and UI stuff
I 100% agree with you on this...which is something I do plan on talking about more in my full review. I'm wondering with these smaller screens are we in the days where developers should make versions that are built specifically for smaller screens? I don't know...but I think now it's worth the conversation.
A lot of games on Steam are marked "unsupported" not because the game won't run on the Deck but the game is not meant to be play on a 7" screen unlike cellphone games. This can be confusing since there are "unsupported" games that actually run better than the "verified" games on the Deck. Thus some of reasons a game marked "unsupported" on Steam would apply to other PC handhelds as well.
@@CKidM I doubt that would happen since developers already making pc type games on a pc handhelds and making a lot of money on them: cellphones. Don't forget a cellphone is basically a PC.
“Asus with no juice” 😂 That is a pet peeve of mine. I want to be able to at least set it up right out the box. Give me a little juice to setup and play.
Just go into armory crate, gamepad configuration, joysticks, and delete the deadzones. For some reason they decided to ship it with deadzones at max, after deleting them I was just as good on this as my Xbox elite controller. You can even dial it further by calibrating the controller through windows settings. It shows up as an Xbox controller by default
What will be interesting is when the next gen consoles are sold side by side at release with next-gen handheld pc,s. Most can only afford one, and the handheld offers a ton of options.
If a handheld can get to the power level of current laptops WITHOUT an external GPU, I'd choose handheld every time. You just can't beat the portability of handhelds. There's so many times I didn't feel like sitting down and playing on my laptop, but picked up my switch and played for hours
you have to tune does joysticks really good for cod like dead zones analog speed and ads speed im still messing with mine i dont know if its a delay or i just have to keep fine tuning in the settings

I have a weird situation where one game keeps freezing even though that game isn’t even that demanding. I played diablo 4 last night with out a problem but smite keeps freezing
That's weird...I'm wondering if it's more of the game vs the system...interesting...I've played several games on here and haven't experienced any freezing yet.

@CKidM I was looking at the BenQ EX2710U, LG 27GR95QE, LG 32GQ950. I don't know if you're interested in doing those older models, but definitely the LG Oled. The other review channels mainly focus on the highest frame rate performance because they game on PC. I was thinking since you game on PS5 like I do, that you could talk about both 60 and 120 hz. I play a lot of 2K, you feel me! Appreciate it, though you definitely have a new subscriber right here.

You can download PS titles like Spider-Man and play them in the go. But look at it as a way to play your games while not being tethered to your gaming console area. But I see where you coming from wit it tho.

Just sent mine back, it’s not the rogs fault, it’s on me. I’m a console gamer and this is too much pc for me. It looks amazing, I was playing signalis and system shock remake on it. But a lot of the other games I tried just wouldn’t launch. I’m sure someone with pc knowledge would have no problem getting it to run.
Yea this is something I plan to talk more about in my full review coming up...this is a problem I think a lot of people who want this is going to do as well. It is very PC heavy versus gaming heavy when it comes to UI. So I completely understand EXACTLY where you're coming from. I plan on doing videos that will help people that's in your same boat.
I completely get that, I just moved from console to pc. The main rules to make pc way simpler than it needs to be is, Stay away from unsecured websites for downloads. I think if you are looking at more of a laptop experience then you are looking at also doing more things than just gaming on it. So it all depends on your main use case for owning a PC device whether handheld or laptop. But for gaming I would see this as an addition to an already PC setup not as my main gaming system.
Nice. I got mine as well. I was able to put an emulator on it, and I downloaded Max Payne 3, GTA4, Midnight Club, Lost Odyssey, and DMC collection. It's truly unbelievable playing those titles on a handheld. I played Destiny 2 on Steam, and it was smooth. My switch oled is a goner. 😂 it's definitely not replacing my PS5, that's fo sho.

I mean it depends on if you prefer gaming in console or handheld. But I would say this is more of an addition to what you already have not a replacement.

PC gaming on batteries sucks..I keep my LT plugged in, keeps the frame rate smooth...now I'll play my PS Vita or Switch on batteries...but handheld consols are made for dedicated gaming...this is a PC ...I'll keep it plugged in the dock or outlet if I'm playing it...fps matter...even if we can't see them all. I'm about to buy a ASUS - TUF Gaming A16 16" 165Hz Gaming Laptop FHD... Way better deal for the price and power...I hope to see an Ally that's more powerful and improved battery when I upgrade in the next 5 years from this TUF A16.
I have a pc and that’s the same question I asked myself and I cannot tell you how many times my pc is sitting there and I still sit on my couch and play on the ROG ally it’s just so much fun to kick back and play all my games portable on the couch so my answer is yes it’s worth it!
No !!! (if you plan to buy tomorrow). ROG Ally still a mess. If you ever use ASUS laptop, you will experience ASUS push BIOS update via windows update (using firmware update). With current BIOS version 319, the performance basically a mess. If you are lazy to tinkering this, just wait for at least 3 month to let them fix the issue. (and there is other problem as well like gyro not working, dead zone not working, yada yada, etc (and oh boy armory crate.... a piece of software which control ASUS device can messed up due update between update which can be fixed by uninstalling (which also pain in the ass) and update it directly to latest update))
All these handhelds that are coming out left and right are nice but one thing prevents me from getting these are usually price and that these arent dedicated consoles. Too many handhelds that are basically gaming tablets or portable pcs but none of them are trying to be a dedicated handheld console. Though i am tempted to give one of these devices a try but im not particular tech savy and not sure if something like this or steamdeck is for me since i would have to fiddle with settings of devices for certain games from what im told.
I completely agree...I think the price of these are kinda pricey...but when you look at the ROG Ally it's fairly inexpensive in comparison to actually getting a full on PC...that will cost you around $3K-$5K. So in retrospective $700 is not bad. I have a new video coming up on this.

I would say if you like the Steam Deck then keep it, but if you think based off what I mentioned in this video warrants you to get the ROG Ally then I'd say do that.

Remember AMD have not yet released the drivers for the 7840u chip. This chip is a general purpose apu made for laptops which are still to be released.

I would say get the PS5...I would look at this as an addition to something you already own not as my main gaming device.

All these handhelds that are coming out left and right are nice but one thing prevents me from getting these are usually price and that these arent dedicated consoles. Too many handhelds that are basically gaming tablets or portable pcs but none of them are trying to be a dedicated handheld console. Though i am tempted to give one of these devices a try but im not particular tech savy and not sure if something like this or steamdeck is for me since i would have to fiddle with settings of devices for certain games from what im told.
I completely agree...I think the price of these are kinda pricey...but when you look at the ROG Ally it's fairly inexpensive in comparison to actually getting a full on PC...that will cost you around $3K-$5K. So in retrospective $700 is not bad. I have a new video coming up on this.
@@CKidM True though i may wait since some people do have some issies and much like any other pc, laptop, tablet, or console they would have to iron out some of those issues

I like how dude had his switch next to the Asus 🤣 switch is still better to me over all, or should I just I still I like the switch over all lol? The switch is more gamer friendly to use over the competition. I have a steam deck and it collects dust lmao switch for life!!!!. I have the ROG as well, it has hardware and software issues, but I still like the system. Switch for me though at the end.
I still ride for the Switch....it's best for the ease of use...just turn it on and get it cracking! lol
I play switch ,ps3,360,wii,n64,ps1 and 2 all on my Ally 3 tb of gaming thunder 😂
@youngjustin82 cool. I can do the same thing on my pc, but does that mean it's better than the consoles or handhelds? Would people stop buying the switch and the ps5 because u can play everything on the ROG? I don't think so. The battery life and messy software is what hurts the rog. I have a rog and I like it but, it's not putting any other platforms out of their misery. I rather wait for the more appealing switch too. The analogs are shot on the rog too

I would say if you like the Steam Deck then keep it, but if you think based off what I mentioned in this video warrants you to get the ROG Ally then I'd say do that.
i have asus rog ally im so disapoint battery is a problem. so faster drain than steam deck.. im stick steam deck nice battery

I'm not gonna lie I understand it's your rog ally but don't buy an ally just to play on the little screen with an external controller that's so fucking dumb either play on it or connect it to a bigger screen wtf that would make the rog ally such a stupid reason to buy it and I know it's his but why just why play it they way it's supposed to be played you don't get an opinion if your not actually experiencing the gaming experience as a handheld
