I think he’ll have a harder time edge-guarding Ike though because of the side B mix it up. Even if the bracket is reset Leo probably will adapt and have a better chance of winning. Hbox has always payed attention and supported the other smash games but just didnt compete in them to the extent as M2k. Idk how much he was involved with Brawl but any tournament that Melee and and S4 were in he'd be in the S4 crowd watching and cheering for his favorite players when he wasnt playing Melee. Hes a good guy. Definitely one of the best supporters for the Smash community as a whole
The thing with mkleo is that he is highly adaptable, he learns and applies really quick, every single match I saw of him, the first few stocks he does okish or a little bad, but then he goes God mode and obliterate his opponents even zero's DD Kong, he's really out of things world, he learns so fast...

You may be to young to get the reference. In a movie called Castaway, stranded person is the only survivor from a plane crash. He finds a volleyball later in the movie with the brand name Wilson. One day that stranded person cuts his hand bleeding. Without a thought he puts his bleeding hand on the volleyball and calls it Wilson. Now, he is stranded on an island for 4 years. So, Wilson is his only friends. He even went so far as to save Wilson from floating away in a storm I think.
I'm only seeing a few competitors using the parry mechanic. I know it isn't very good right now but I think it is going to be later. These guys will be ahead of the curve.
I mean, it also depends on what attack you are parrying. if it's one atk or a smash, it's good. If it's a projectile, maybe ok. but vs a string? parry the last one or get hit

I think if Nintendo buff it to give a better advantage state and the player base evolves (specifically the pro scene) then I can see certain players shinning more with it. Right now though there is no reward to it unless you are right on top of your opponent.

Matthew Rabon probably Ike has priority and reach. Of all the sword fighters, Ike (and cloud?) has the longest reach. A tilt up might not even hit leaves you open to get hit.

It sucks how since Salem is kind of a running joke right now, no one else besides HBox and Kitty are recognizing how precedent it is that he made it all the way to 3rd place with my boi LINK!! (in a tournament with many well known and powerful players, none the less ;)
I don't think many people realize that Ike is actually good because of his weight and how hard he is to kill. Hard to kill, INTIMIDATING reach and early kill percentages. Because it takes so long to kill him, he utilizes the Rage mechanic more than most characters.
Birdboy J Even then, Ike’s aerials are still going to be good. Not as amazing as now, but will be able to be countered. I think it’s not perfect shield that’ll tone down Ike, but rather his lack of projectile and pretty predictable recovery.
This is interesting, Salem's projectile game was so tight this tourdy, and Leo is the first player whose really done a good job calmly shielding and evading the shots. It seems like Salem actually hurts himself trying to build distance for his ranged attacks in this match. I wonder if Salem had the mindset of a brawling, melee based link coming into this if he'd done better. I had a similar situation with my friend playing link. It took me a full day before I changed my mindset and started thinking of him as a ranged character rather than a swordsman. Only then I was able to take an advantage. Maybe Salem needs to practice two different playstyles? Regardless, great tourdy, great commentary, loved the whole thing!

I'm not very knowledgeable about this, but I'll reply just in case no one else does. But I hope someone comes around and explains it better than this. Neutral game is referring to the gameplay that occurs when neither player is at a situational advantage over the other. It typically happens when both players are onstage and not too close to the edge. "Winning the neutral game" usually means giving more damage than you receive and eventually putting yourself in a position to easily KO your opponent. For example, when one player is offstage, it's no longer neutral game but rather an edgeguarding situation. The player onstage (who probably won the neutral game in this scenario) is at an advantage and is just trying to end the opposing player's stock, while the player offstage is at a disadvantage and is mostly trying to regain a position on the stage.
I know Salem's the villain of Ultimate now (and not in a good way like Leffen later on), but the flack he gets when he's just playing the game is a tad excessive. Not from the commentators, mind you, they're perfectly professional, just the community at large. That said, he could've at least shaken Leo's hand rather than packing up and leaving as soon as he hit the blast zone.
Damn!! There was a huge difference in skill level between Salem and Leo. Goes to show how Salem doesn’t stand a chance against Leo (or possibly other top level players) without his toxic Smash4 Bayonetta.
Yet, he got third at a major anyway...Look I'm not a salty Salem fan but you shouldn't discredit his skill. But yes, Mkleo was way better than Salem, I agree with that. And yes, it's possible that Salem could've been carried a bit by Bayo in S4. However, that does not mean you shouldn't acknowlegde his skill as player. He won evo with ZSS against brawl Metanight in Brawl; defintely not a trash player and is a good player. The point I'm trying to make is that Salem got carried by Bayonetta in S4(he may have struggled more in S4 than Brawl, but correct me if I'm wrong), but he is by no means some loser, or he wouldn't have been in winners finals at major, right?
Utuh _ “Major tournament” which hardly had any top players in it. I have nothing against Salem, he just isn’t a top player in my eyes. The reason being is Bc he didn’t deserve such high ranking is Smash4 Bc it was evident he only got that far Bc of Bayonetta (just like the other Bayo players such as Lima, zack, etc). In my opinion, it was Bayo who carried Salem and not the other way around. Whereas if you look at other players, they are the ones carrying the characters. Take a look at Ally for example, he is the ONLY Mario player to actually get results with the character (maybe Zenyou as well). Same thing can be said about Nairo and his Bowser, or Zero and his Diddy, or Larry and his fox, etc.
@@DarkWolfJr1000 I'm not a Bayonetta fan, but what I know is that switching mains is a very difficult thing to accomplish in Smash. Every figure plays differently and like the old kung fu man in the movie 7 Grandmasters said: You can only focus on one weapon, someone who switches mains or slacks off is gonna have a hard time, then it wil depend on his timeinvestement in the game, because the brain can't handle so many things. Whatever area one takes it takes years of skill refinement, and like people who speak up to 4 languages, only very few of them actually speak them 100% rightly and without an accent.
I don’t like how Salem chose to play his link here. All his other games he used his projectiles until the opponent closed the gap and then used Link’s fantastic Nair OOS to get them off him and reset the neutral. Rinse and repeat until kill time. He obviously doesn’t know how to deal with Ike either. You can easily punish Nair if it isn’t spaced perfectly damn near everytime. He definitely should have apply more pressure when MKLeo was off stage as well.
Articuno If you parry a Nair from Ike there is 0 chance he will be able to jump and Nair you again. Some characters could F-smash in that time frame. If you don’t parry Ike’s Nair and you have a good OOS option like Link’s Nair, you can very quickly make an Ike reconsider throwing out careless nairs.
Rewatch the match and pay attention to Leo’s aerial mixup options and cross ups. It’s not as simple as “just nair OOS lol” “man just parry.” Salem didn’t do those things because Leo made it difficult for him.
Charles Washington Even rewatching the match it’s as I said. Honestly most of the time Salem got hit by n-air he wasn’t in shield he got caught trying to throw moves out. The times he did get hit in shield he punished it more often that not. Salem was not playing the MU correctly. He had been playing really safe all day and then of all characters to get aggressive with he chose IKE.
Link sucks...or rather, he's inconsistent. Link's new bombs are inconsistent against aggressive foes, and seem to backfire. I do love the explosion range though...but detonating it precisely distracts you from precisely moving Link, while also limiting you to 1 bomb at a time (half of the time you can't pull out a bomb because it's either falling off the cliff or the opponent has it. INCONSISTENT). The lack of his aerial clawshot also decreases range against foes with more range...like Ike (people say his grab is better, but...how many times did Link grab in this match?) I think if Salem used only Arrows and Boomerang, he'd have a better chance....or just used Young Link lol. I don't know why they didn't just add BoW Link as a new character slot (and advertise more characters!), or at least keep the old Link moveset for his classic costumes. If anything, they could have just added Dark Samus's dodge to Samus's last costume, and that would have been equivilant to what they did for Dark Samus in this game (Dark Samus as an almost excact clone was disappointing...they should have taken the Chrom/Isabelle approach and gave DS actual unique moves. At least 1 or 2.)

It sucks how since Salem is kind of a running joke right now, no one else besides HBox and Kitty are recognizing how precedent it is that he made it all the way to 3rd place with my boi LINK!! (in a tournament with many well known and powerful players, none the less ;)

I don't think many people realize that Ike is actually good because of his weight and how hard he is to kill. Hard to kill, INTIMIDATING reach and early kill percentages. Because it takes so long to kill him, he utilizes the Rage mechanic more than most characters.

Birdboy J Even then, Ike’s aerials are still going to be good. Not as amazing as now, but will be able to be countered. I think it’s not perfect shield that’ll tone down Ike, but rather his lack of projectile and pretty predictable recovery.

This is interesting, Salem's projectile game was so tight this tourdy, and Leo is the first player whose really done a good job calmly shielding and evading the shots. It seems like Salem actually hurts himself trying to build distance for his ranged attacks in this match. I wonder if Salem had the mindset of a brawling, melee based link coming into this if he'd done better.
I had a similar situation with my friend playing link. It took me a full day before I changed my mindset and started thinking of him as a ranged character rather than a swordsman. Only then I was able to take an advantage.
Maybe Salem needs to practice two different playstyles? Regardless, great tourdy, great commentary, loved the whole thing!

I'm not very knowledgeable about this, but I'll reply just in case no one else does. But I hope someone comes around and explains it better than this.
Neutral game is referring to the gameplay that occurs when neither player is at a situational advantage over the other. It typically happens when both players are onstage and not too close to the edge. "Winning the neutral game" usually means giving more damage than you receive and eventually putting yourself in a position to easily KO your opponent.
For example, when one player is offstage, it's no longer neutral game but rather an edgeguarding situation. The player onstage (who probably won the neutral game in this scenario) is at an advantage and is just trying to end the opposing player's stock, while the player offstage is at a disadvantage and is mostly trying to regain a position on the stage.

I know Salem's the villain of Ultimate now (and not in a good way like Leffen later on), but the flack he gets when he's just playing the game is a tad excessive. Not from the commentators, mind you, they're perfectly professional, just the community at large. That said, he could've at least shaken Leo's hand rather than packing up and leaving as soon as he hit the blast zone.

Damn!! There was a huge difference in skill level between Salem and Leo.
Goes to show how Salem doesn’t stand a chance against Leo (or possibly other top level players) without his toxic Smash4 Bayonetta.
Yet, he got third at a major anyway...Look I'm not a salty Salem fan but you shouldn't discredit his skill. But yes, Mkleo was way better than Salem, I agree with that. And yes, it's possible that Salem could've been carried a bit by Bayo in S4. However, that does not mean you shouldn't acknowlegde his skill as player. He won evo with ZSS against brawl Metanight in Brawl; defintely not a trash player and is a good player. The point I'm trying to make is that Salem got carried by Bayonetta in S4(he may have struggled more in S4 than Brawl, but correct me if I'm wrong), but he is by no means some loser, or he wouldn't have been in winners finals at major, right?

I have nothing against Salem, he just isn’t a top player in my eyes. The reason being is Bc he didn’t deserve such high ranking is Smash4 Bc it was evident he only got that far Bc of Bayonetta (just like the other Bayo players such as Lima, zack, etc). In my opinion, it was Bayo who carried Salem and not the other way around.
Whereas if you look at other players, they are the ones carrying the characters.
Take a look at Ally for example, he is the ONLY Mario player to actually get results with the character (maybe Zenyou as well). Same thing can be said about Nairo and his Bowser, or Zero and his Diddy, or Larry and his fox, etc.
@@DarkWolfJr1000 I'm not a Bayonetta fan, but what I know is that switching mains is a very difficult thing to accomplish in Smash. Every figure plays differently and like the old kung fu man in the movie 7 Grandmasters said: You can only focus on one weapon, someone who switches mains or slacks off is gonna have a hard time, then it wil depend on his timeinvestement in the game, because the brain can't handle so many things. Whatever area one takes it takes years of skill refinement, and like people who speak up to 4 languages, only very few of them actually speak them 100% rightly and without an accent.

I don’t like how Salem chose to play his link here. All his other games he used his projectiles until the opponent closed the gap and then used Link’s fantastic Nair OOS to get them off him and reset the neutral. Rinse and repeat until kill time.
He obviously doesn’t know how to deal with Ike either. You can easily punish Nair if it isn’t spaced perfectly damn near everytime. He definitely should have apply more pressure when MKLeo was off stage as well.
Yeah if you lab parry should get around it because ikes moves are single hits. Maybe a Ken or Ryu I feel can beat single hit swordies

Articuno If you parry a Nair from Ike there is 0 chance he will be able to jump and Nair you again. Some characters could F-smash in that time frame.
If you don’t parry Ike’s Nair and you have a good OOS option like Link’s Nair, you can very quickly make an Ike reconsider throwing out careless nairs.
Rewatch the match and pay attention to Leo’s aerial mixup options and cross ups. It’s not as simple as “just nair OOS lol” “man just parry.” Salem didn’t do those things because Leo made it difficult for him.
Charles Washington Even rewatching the match it’s as I said. Honestly most of the time Salem got hit by n-air he wasn’t in shield he got caught trying to throw moves out. The times he did get hit in shield he punished it more often that not.
Salem was not playing the MU correctly. He had been playing really safe all day and then of all characters to get aggressive with he chose IKE.
Was he not allowed to use his arrows ? Cause he shud have spammed arrows way more .

Link sucks...or rather, he's inconsistent.
Link's new bombs are inconsistent against aggressive foes, and seem to backfire. I do love the explosion range though...but detonating it precisely distracts you from precisely moving Link, while also limiting you to 1 bomb at a time (half of the time you can't pull out a bomb because it's either falling off the cliff or the opponent has it. INCONSISTENT). The lack of his aerial clawshot also decreases range against foes with more range...like Ike (people say his grab is better, but...how many times did Link grab in this match?) I think if Salem used only Arrows and Boomerang, he'd have a better chance....or just used Young Link lol.
I don't know why they didn't just add BoW Link as a new character slot (and advertise more characters!), or at least keep the old Link moveset for his classic costumes. If anything, they could have just added Dark Samus's dodge to Samus's last costume, and that would have been equivilant to what they did for Dark Samus in this game (Dark Samus as an almost excact clone was disappointing...they should have taken the Chrom/Isabelle approach and gave DS actual unique moves. At least 1 or 2.)
I wish a lot of people realised this. Link isn't S+, he struggles under pressure.
