- Chris Evert is opening up about her stage 1C ovarian cancer diagnosis, saying she hopes her story will help other women watch for warning signs. Evert is undergoing chemotherapy, but says she knows how difficult the disease can be after watching her sister Jeannie die of the same cancer two years ago. NBC’s Anne Thompson reports for TODAY.

So glad they found it so early. That rarely happens. She was extremely lucky. I think she'll be fine 85 to 90 percent change of survival. I wish her the best. Many more years of good health.

So sorry to hear the news of your cancer diagnosis. After all of the battles you have won on the tennis court you are going to do well this one as well. I wish her nothing but the best health going forward. Odds are in her favor as the cancer was discovered early. Many times it is diagnosed after it has gotten to a very late stage. Sending prayers and positive thoughts.
my mom passed away from this horrible disease. she fought long and hard for eight years. usually, the average survival rate for ovarian cancer is 5 years. many women are lucky are to make it 5 years.

Luckily CE has had an early diagnosis... Hoping for the best for her
I also had stage 1B ovarian cancer. I was not going to do the chemo but ended up doing it in two weeks after my first treatment I knew it was the right thing. At two weeks my hair was falling out from the treatment but I felt terrific and I knew the chemo did get rid of the leftover cancer cells. I’m six years out and surgery and chemo completely got rid of the ovarian cancer. I did do IV vitamin C, hyperbaric oxygen and I keep my vitamin D blood level between 60 to 80 ng/ml. I am a practicing physician of 50 years primarily focusing on nutrition and nutritional supplements.

And she was at Wimbledon yesterday. A couple of months, I think, after her treatment. A champ indeed.
I only know her from the 2015 film Trainwreck, but googled she's one of the all time greatest players. Get well soon, Christine!
Chris and I share a birthday and year (12/21/1954) I didn't know her but I followed her career since we were both teenagers in the Ft Lauderdale/ Hollywood area of South Florida

Hang in there, Chris. I grew-up playing junior tennis tournaments in the 1970's and then college tennis in the 1980s and followed your career and studied your game and matches. I saw all the great female players from the golden era of tennis, but if pressed to pick the greatest female tennis player of all time, you would be my unimpeachable choice. Your toughness, steely resolve and unflagging determination were only matched by the incredible consistency and steadiness of your ground strokes and game. And yet you always remained a humble, classy, smart, and elegant lady. You made my youth better and you certainly made the great sport of tennis better by your presence.

RSO. A friend I went to school with took it for 90 days. After that she had zero sign of anything. It was originally made to treat skin cancer (which it does very well if applied early), but it seems to work with ovarian cancer. Darren Miller has vids on RUclips about it healing his lung cancer too.

Chrissy: Have it cut out, radically. My late mother had this, and the surgeon didn't get it all. The cancer metastasized to her (nearby) colon, which eventually was blocked. A year after the surgery, she died, horribly and in pain. Ten years later, I have not forgiven that surgeon. I would not wish that demise on anyone.

I knew Chris as a kid on the courts of Miami, playing ahead of her age group. She's always been a champion, ready for a challenge. And, along with Martina Navratilova, the best athlete for other women athletes to honor. Her dad, Jimmy Evert, was a well-respected recreational tennis coach, like Arthur Ashe's dad. Jimmy taught all his kids to be champions, whether it showed up on the scoreboard or not.
Chris Evert with her grace, class, and skill is an iconic part of the Open Era’s exploding Tennis Boom. You had to be there when local clubs had full memberships, and public venues - parks and schools - had waiting lines at courts where you could only play one set per turn. We wish her well.
What are the symptoms?…..
My sister had it . The symptoms were bloating, and abdominal pain and discomfort. That can be so many things, so her doctor treated her for those more common reasons. for a while. It was only discovered months later it was Ovarian cancer, but it was stage 4. She survived 4 years. There are no preventive test like there are for cervical cancer. In order to get the brac testing you have to have 2 cases of either breast or ovarian cancer in your family. In my case, the one sister had both 9 years apart, so we were eligible for testing. You can't just get a test when no one in your family has had either cancer. Insurance won't pay for that. As of 2008, when I was tested it was over 3,000 dollars for the test.

@@elenamaria8063 Your welcome. I just wanted to add that it's important to demand your doctor, to look into ovarian cancer if you have these persistent symptoms. They won't do it on their own. There is a c19 blood test, and an pelvic ultrasound that can help determine. Or you could go to an oncologist obgyn. That's what she finally did, and that doctor diagnosed her immediately. You really have to be an advocate for your own health. People don't like to question their doctor, but you can't be afraid to. It's a terrible disease, and to watch them waste away is horrid. Chrissy is so lucky it was caught so early. I wish her the best.

If the hysterectomy removed the ovaries and tubes, wouldn't that get the cancer out? I apologize if I'm ignorant, just trying to understand.
Sometimes there are rogue micro cells after surgery. The chemo is a preventative measure to make sure any remaining cells are killed off.
Imagine if she had not decided to have hysterectomy. Her cancer would not be discovered until much later when symptoms would start. Unfortunately, by that time it would have been too late

Why suffer in silence
When well known people go public it brings awareness. Because of her candor, thousands and thousands of women will read up on ovarian cancer, know the subtle signs to look for. They will also get tested to see if they have the Braca 1 gene, including me. Chris Evert was my idol when I was a young girl and what a role model! She has raised money for years for charities, always giving back. Of course she has the self awareness to know she can save lives going public with her diagnosis. Now THAT is a role model. And a champion. So proud of her, so thankful to have had, and still have her to look up to.
