It wasn't a battleship. There's a surprising amount of ordinance and other flammables carried on the decks of many warships. While it would certainly be a stretch to sink them in a strafe, you'd be able to kill some crew and cause some light damage.
Tyomei jpn nope , out of ca. 120k aircraft produced for the luftwaffe , 33k were 109s , dont forget the other important fighter the fw190 where somewhere 20k were produced. This movie is just straight up american biased.
Sea i dont really know they really look distinctive, i think even if i had general zero knowledge of those aircraft the engines would make a pretty big difference , one having a radial therefore being larger and the other having an inline. Just a thought tho

Even if they would use HE ammo... it's NO FREAKING WAY that would penetrate side or deck armor of a DAMN SHIP... Even light cruiser was protected by enough armor to cause those shells to bounce off from it and yes, they would damaged superstructure's external installations like electrical cables, communication tubes, ect , caused some fires on deck and of course kill some crew members... but that would be nothing that remaining crew wouldn't be able to contain within short time... and most definitively it *WOULD NOT SINK IT* ...

Shooting the radio would mean that the captain would have to switch to the back up radio. Or wait while new one is carried over from storage. Remember the least armored part has about 1 inch of homogeneous armor on it - and that is more than enough to stop machine gun rounds. Now you are still right - planes can sink ships. In fact they can do it very easily, this is why aircraft carriers rule the sea today. However the planes which can sink ships are specialized attack aircraft armed with bombs or torpedoes (or guided missiles in more modern variant). Not a dedicated fighter with 6 50. cal machine guns. which sole purpose is to fight lightly armored aircraft and escort bomb squadrons whose responsibility is to sink ships (or strafe civilians on the ground because that is what us air force does).

And The "Red Tails" Did in fact destroy one sometime in 1944 off the coast of Italy(or sicily idk remember which, i remember readin a article on this exact scene a while back) but they did so with P-47 Thunderbolts, not with the pictured p-51 mustangs

Actually it's documented. Also happened in the Pacific. U.S. Navy night fighter F6F Hellcats did it. Not easy though, in both instances got rounds down the ships smokestacks into the boilers.

Harkov Dent it’s a thing in all light weight aircrafts. I believe once that p40 goes pass 600 km/h(sorry metrics) it’s starts to struggle. It’s why the plane is bad for boom and zoom tactics. This problem is also found on majority of the lufftwaffe. Idk if I spelled it correctly. But anyways yeah most lightweight airplanes during ww2 have hard time pulling out of high speed dives quickly if at all.

It is a bomber hunter... expecting a Me 262 to beat a F-80 or F-86 is like expecting a Bf 110 to beat a P-36 or P-40.... Me 262 is a heavy fighter of the jets in WWII basically and the Meteor F.3, P-80, Yak-15, are made for near opposite task. The first true bomber interceptors after WWII had guided missiles so yes... we have a problem. We got a plane meant to fight bombers but barely anyone flies B-29' due to this reason. Hope adding 4 x 12.7mm to 4 of the B-29 turrets, the Tu-2, and G10M will allow early jet tier to see more heavy bombers....

Frankly, I think it's plausible, 262s were designed too late in the war to have effect. Most of the Luftwaffes good pilots were dead and did not have the proper training for their 262s. Not to mention, the German weapons had SERIOUS quality control issues due to insufficient resources at the end of the war. The movie is still bs propaganda though
B17 in real life - durable af and literally cannot manuver B17 in war thunder - has the paper thin armour of the zero and manuvers like a fighter and sometimes dogfights other aircrafts too

Me 262 is a heavy fighter of the jets in WWII basically and the Meteor F.3, P-80, Yak-15, are made for near opposite task. The first true bomber interceptors after WWII had guided missiles so yes... we have a problem. We got a plane meant to fight bombers but barely anyone flies B-29' due to this reason.
Hope adding 4 x 12.7mm to 4 of the B-29 turrets, the Tu-2, and G10M will allow early jet tier to see more heavy bombers....

conclusion: history channel fabricates stories, Lucas is gullible, and this movie is still unrealistic as fuck. makes for great warthunder banter though.

Frankly, I think it's plausible, 262s were designed too late in the war to have effect. Most of the Luftwaffes good pilots were dead and did not have the proper training for their 262s. Not to mention, the German weapons had SERIOUS quality control issues due to insufficient resources at the end of the war. The movie is still bs propaganda though
