For the tall shifter question: on older trucks, those were used for more leverage to help the gears mesh easier. On modern trucks, yes, it's purely comfort or preference.
I guess Americans just prefer long shifters, I actually put a 4 inch shifter extension on my Subaru due to how low down it is. It feels more loose, yes, but I still prefer it lol
The way he just casually lift 100 kg is just amazing Using only his arms and without chalk or even Good grip He probably lift this mf just on the 5mm radiator or something else
@@wall7103 just so you know, the advice "lift with your legs and not with your back" is only to prevent overuse injuries for people who don't have strength and flexibility. When you go to the gym and deadlift, you're literally lifting hundreds of pounds with mostly your lower back, so as long as that guy had the strength and stability for it he'll be fine.
The Norwegian JOY ship also has a go kart track, single seaters, and if you go when it’s not busy, they can turn the power up pretty good- almost to your FFWD speed.
1:15 I've been on the Norwegian Encore, with another go-kart track. It's actually surprisingly quick (relatively speaking). The circuit keeps track of your times as well, so you can gain stomach ulcers by trying to lose that tenth of a second, even on vacation!
I've allways wonder something, when you're on that cruise ship, you can go kart everyday all day if there isn't much people or you have to pay extra for each session ?
Both an American and a truck driver here. To answer your question about the shifters...it's a style over function fad (MIGHT make some sense on much older trucks, but not on the modern ones which are as quiet, smooth and easy to drive as a Cadillac.)
Thought I'd share something one of my teachers at college showed me, But Toyota have been messing with EV and hydrogen like most companies these days, but recently they converted 2 AE86's (because weebs) to electric and hydrogen, The hydrogen version it the interesting one as Toyota managed to get the original engine to run on hydrogen through only changing parts and fitting 2 hydrogen tanks in the back. If anyone wants a link I can provide one, but I think my teacher told me if Toyota can convince the Japanese government its viable and build the infrastructure for it, our internal combustion cars could be saved.
On a modern truck equipped with an Eaton transmission, the leverage is not required. It's like the crazy long handlebars on some chopper motorcycles. I've seen some trucks where the shifter is so tall it's just about rubbing the ceiling of the cab, and the driver had the range splitter modified with an extension so he could actually reach it. The manufacturers place the shifter at a height that is plenty comfortable for the average human if you aren't a fan of slinging a pole around the cab.
i get a kick out of people who overlook the fact that lowered cars tend to rip off the front & rear facia's while going over speed bumps.the look on their faces is priceless when they discover they've destroyed the bumper cover facia's.in addition to ruining handling & ride qualities.
V8 forklift wouldn't survive. I used to be a forklift mechanic for Crown. There are some forklifts powered by automotive engines, Nissan and Mitsubishi 4 cylinders, GM V6's. I've seen two forklifts that the customer replaced the dead forklift engine with the block from the automotive version, both died in a couple of days. A 2 liter 4 cylinder forklift typically puts out around 30-40hp. They beef up the engine and debate the output. It needs to survive the throttle being pinned to the floor for hours on end, inside of a tiny engine compartment with little airflow or cooling, and 500 to 1000hr oil changes. Say you didn't have the throttle floored, and were going a gentle 60mph, those oil change intervals are 30k to 60k miles. Forklift engines typically live 20k to 40k hours, most of that being pushed as hard as they can be. That's the equivalent of millions of miles on a road vehicle.
With long shifters, if i remember correctly, which i probably dont, its to lessen damage to the shifter forks in the transmission because all truckers get bored and swing the shifter left to right very slightly.
That v8 forklift *is* an american v8. Look closely at it, it's a pushrod v8, which to my knowledge, Toyota has never made. The valvecovers look like smallblock chevy valvecovers, which indicates to me that it's probably a nascar v8 like they run in the camry. So yeah. a smallblock 350 sure sounds better than any American v8!
I wish you'd show the SPEED 1600 interlagos competition on your next video. It's a 64 car race composed of tuned up 1.6L VW beetles with Weber dual carbs and slick tires.
That possibility would make things a whole lot more fun tbh. Unfortunately a lot of these newer karts have hard speed limiters and can even be remotely killswitched if you go over what feels like 2 miles an hour
Long shifter,?? Is for style, comfort and easy shifting! Primarily STYLE. Once you try it w/seat on the floor and all you can see is the top of the drivers head. That's the way to roll!!

Fun fact, on older American trucks you can find not one but TWO shifter sticks. Lovingly referred to as 'twin sticks'. They were also commonly longer to help with leverage to throw them into gear. And even crazier is the rare triple stick shifter.
9:20 I have 3 reasons, 1 it’s cool (idk why), 2 it’s a different transmission than the truck came with, 3 it’s easier to float gears and find them especially on an 18 speed transmission
That clip at the end, never did I expect to see a man who completely eschews the proper lifting equipment still use correct lifting technique on a 200lb engine. 😮 He uses only his arms to lift and not his back!
Love the first clip. Dude spraying in a small space, no respirator, glasses on top of his head. Hope he's using an electric fan too so he has the possibly of explosion. The trifecta of goddamned idiocy.
The V8 forklift is kinda cool. Back in the mid 90's, I drove a V6 Hyster brand pole lift. It ran on natural gas and had a Chevy 4.3L Vortec in it. These things were run practically 24/7 at max RPM's and never needed anything other than basic tune-ups.
