Yes, I agree. This is the performance that had cemented her as one of my all-time favourites. It's too bad she never reached the heights her potential seemed to indicate. I won't forget the Canadian coverage where the announcer gushed at the end that she could become one of the best skaters ever. It didn't happen but that possibility was there.
her layback is truly beautiful to watch. Isu should make this a standard for layback spins. Enough of side ways leabing and very poor leg position. THIS is how you do it. Teach THIS to the young ones!
I love the leg-out-in-front spiral that is seen at 1:17 ..... it is one of my top favorites of Sasha's many inventive moves. She holds it particularly long here in this program. Note how her skating foot is TURNED BACKWARDS while she is doing this move and her head is tilted back parrallel to the ice as if she is looking directly at the ceiling. Incredible hard and beautifully executed. Some of today's skaters have attempted to do this move, among them Mao Asada who did a pretty good version at times herself.
Somehow I do prefer her normal spirals (in the beginning and near the end). Today some girls do this, but none of them does this as beautifully as Sasha...
I wish she had done a longer version of this at the Olympics, and wore a similar dress. I thought the red one Sasha wore at the Games was a bit overpowering for her a little bit too busy.
yeah, I mean at the time her lp was Rachmaninov... And when she pops a jump, they say, its not a mistake, so, I guess this was an exhibition. But its gorgeous, no matter what, one of my favorite R&J performances. :)
No, it was a competition but it didn't require a lot of jumps. You could even do an entire program with no jumps at all if you chose not to, particularly in the longer 'artistic' program.
I think she was focusing more on the artistry of her skating then on the jumps.... that's what real figure skating is :D that's why it's even caller FIGURE skating :D
sorry to disagree, but its called figure skating because originally skaters at comptetitions did skate figures. Without music or jumps or choreo or anything. Just sheer technique focusig on the use of the edges. ( i cant really explain better'cause my english is not good enough)Other than that, youre absolutely right, she is amazing and this is what fs should look like..
This was one of those 'Open' competitions lik a Pro-Ams. Cohen didn't need a ton of jumps. This was to all intents and purposes the 'SP'. She won easily.
This was just a Pro competition sponsored by Sears-more for fun and money than anything else. It didn't count towards the skaters ISU rankings or anything.
@MeltedBlueIce thnxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx she soars like an eagle. WAIT!!!! don't mistake me for the UTUBE account owner! i'm her little sister sasha and she named the account after me. SASHbott :)
yeah, I know she did. But it doesnt look like an exhibiton. And I couldnt find her lp anywhere. But I guess youre right, it must be a gala performance.
@MeltedBlueIce well actually at school...........in pakistan...........................my name is the FUNNIEST thing.... everybody whos somebody or nobody makes fun of it...... they call me sheesha........which means glass..............which means they trip or push me and say that they were trying to BREAK me
....umm. whas this a competitive performance?? so few jumps...:S and she skated Malaguena as a sp at the Sears Open in 2002. so this cannot be an other sp...im confused:S
Nobody ever had the grace and artistry of Sasha, nobody
Actually, Peggy Fleming and Michelle Kwan had the grace and artistry better.
A true Juliet on the ice...in my eyes, no one portrays a character like her....
I'm in awe every time I watch her. I don't think anyone will ever surpass her artistry. ❤️
Those spirals. No one in the world will EVER compete with that gorgeous position on those spirals.
This is my favorite Sasha program and one of my favorite performances ever. It still takes my breath away.

She never has to leave the ice. She is breathtaking.
Most incredibly talented lady skater ever and the best Romeo and Juliet ever. Sasha has turned into quite a woman.
There has never been, nor might there ever be, a woman with her quality of line and positions 👌🏼
Tatiana Tarasova choreographed amazing programs for Sasha, wish their partnership lasted longer. Magical.
It’s 2022. Still my favorite performance❤
The best ever. Truly exquisite. Maybe my favorite with Oksana’s Swan Lake.
Staggeringly beautiful. Unmatched.
One of the most beautiful exibitions of figure skating ever!!!
I still have this performance recorded... this program of her will be remembered for very long :)
this made me cry .
This was a special competition. The long programs were called "artistic programs"; they weren't required to have a lot of jumps.
Look at her air position during her triple lutz at 0:55 pure perfection.
So incredibly, The very best , x😃♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Sasha is the kind of skater who should've always gotten 5.9's/6.0's in the artistic score and 9's and 10's in PCS under the current COP.
~ Beautiful ~ The best !!!
Absolutely stunningly beautiful.so much beauty in this ugly world
so pretty

1:17 is just insane..no matter how many times I see Sasha do it, I'm in awe!❤
Exquisite...bravo!
Pure expression.
I loved it.
This is what figure skating should be
I wish she had done a longer version of this at the Olympics, and wore a similar dress. I thought the red one Sasha wore at the Games was a bit overpowering for her a little bit too busy.
Liked her gold one, but I would have spruced it up more time-line of the real RJ but not tacky :D
That white costume makes her look exquisitely sterile and serene on ice
yeah, I mean at the time her lp was Rachmaninov... And when she pops a jump, they say, its not a mistake, so, I guess this was an exhibition.

It's not called figure skating everywhere though; some countries call it artistic skating.

6th comment!!!!!!!
OK so the one of the reasons i found mess cohen here,i was browsing my name,SASHA and found her.:)
@1:30 ❤️
Yes, it was a competition but more of a 'Pro' competition, not a regular ISU event. The skaters didn't have to do many jumps.
@MeltedBlueIce thnxxxxxxx
I was gunna have this as my Free music 2 minutes cut :( But everyone has it :( And it was piano version :(
@MeltedBlueIce thnxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
she soars like an eagle.
WAIT!!!! don't mistake me for the UTUBE account owner!
i'm her little sister sasha and she named the account after me. SASHbott :)
2:24 Yes Roz, i'd say that was a mistake. 🙄
She literally doesn’t need jumps
odd. But does not take away from her awsomeness :D Thanks for the info! :)
Do you mean, Yuna Kim? I am a bit confused with who you were mentioning.
yeah, I know she did. But it doesnt look like an exhibiton. And I couldnt find her lp anywhere. But I guess youre right, it must be a gala performance.
She's the best we have in figure skating ~ Una lacks personality, that Sasha has !!
No-this was a competition, but it was not an Olympic eligible type of competition. Sort of a Pro-Am.
@MeltedBlueIce well actually at school...........in pakistan...........................my name is the FUNNIEST thing....
everybody whos somebody or nobody makes fun of it......

Nope-it was a competition but just a Pro event, not and ISU event.

@MeltedBlueIce :/
I guess it was an exhibition, she re-used it for the 2003-2004 season!...
