Why? As you said in the video, Neil, it's simple: as 80 kids we are, we grew up with many cool black cars. But as always, as AE86 owners, we receive the same question: "Why not in black and white?" I have a friend here in Japan with an AE86 (green and black), and many people ask the same question in meetings. My god... If only they knew the popular color back in the day in Japan wasn't that one... I say this as an Initial D AE86 replica owner, and if I wasn't interested in the anime, probably I would aim for a Black Limited because it looks so cool, even if you prefer plain black, haha.
You just blew my mind with that detail from NFS 2015!!! I've played that game so much, and I never would've noticed that the in-game modifications were modeled after Patrick's car.
As a kid, growing up in the 2000s, I was obsessed with back to the future and the Delorean. It was an old movie when it was new to me and none of my friends ever knew about it, but I watched it on DVD until the disc got too scratched to use hahaha, same addiction

I've got an Idea for your continuation of the show. Do another car, an AE-86 or another kind and start a fleet. Make sure to fill it with little bits of mechanic tips and tricks. I know you guys did that before, but you should definitely keep it up, and maybe with specialty parts. You could do it because you have a major come up.

Black cars leave an impact. My uncle had a black manta b. As far as I'm concerned the coolest car on earth. Someday I'll have one maybe with a rb26. Glad the channel is growing. LOVE LOVE LOVE black cars. Would never have one though, such a pain in the arse to keep clean. Fun fact mad max was filmed about 20 minutes away from where I live.

I love all those movies. I was a Smokey and the Bandit nut. I've watched the movie so many times it's crazy. I don't have a black Trans Am. I do have a Black 1984 Mustang SVO which is a really special car because it was a Mustang built as more of a sports car than any other Mustang at the time. It was powered by a 2.3L Turbocharged 4 cylinder engine instead of a V8 to give it a better weight balance. There are a lot more special parts on the SVO that make them really unique and honestly I still find it hard to believe that I own one.
I also daily drive a Black 2007 Ford Focus ZX3 that came with the sport appearance package and a 5 speed transmission. Coincidentally my focus and my mustang had front end damage and as a result neither one has the correct front body panels. the Mustang has later 87-93 LX front panels and the focus has earlier 2004 front panels. I never made that connection before. I painted the front of my Mustang with duplicolor black rattle cans and my focus just has a dark grey front.
I only ever completely painted 1 vehicle my 1951 ford pick up and I painted it bright yellow. My auto body teacher in high school used to tell us that black was the hardest colour to pain't because it shows every flaw so I really never considered black as an option.
Black will always look the toughest colour of them all, I love my black supra on my profile pic but I want to change it up at some point. Excited for the backlog of videos from Japan!

I think you've probably explained why I love black cars (both my MR2-GTS and Hilux Surf are black) as I think I watched and loved all of those references you mentioned, at least the movies and TV. The only bad thing about black is it shows the dirt.

Your car color is very unique When i think about ae86 only reminded me the panda color from initial d. Now it reminds me the old brown color and your unique black color.
My advice on a black car is invest in a good detail and then either I really good coating or a PPF to protect it
As a kid from the 70's/80's, cars in the movies back then were cool, with my favourite being Mad Max's Pursuit Special Falcon, which I suppose is natural as I'am in Australia and I saw those cars all the time. Before discovering Juiceboxforyou and Nightride channel recently I didn't even know what a AE86 Trueno was. Doing some research it appears that it was sold as the Toyota Sprinter here in Australia which I did not know. The only Toyotas that I saw in Australia on a regular basic was the Corona, Corolla & Camry which I found to be plain or boring. We did have other makes of Toyota which weren't as common, though I must admit they are very reliable cars with my parents having a few over the years.

That clip of all those great car films American Graphiti is one of my favourites. 2 lane black top had a black 55 or 57 chevy it was a gasser kinda like Harrison Fords a Black 57 chevy bel.

honestly the best part of the build is now the paint for me, the detail in the build is astonishing but the story and personal infatuation makes the color the coolest bit now
I fell in love with the Lamborghini as a kid when I first seen John candy in the red lambo skip across the lake 😅 (kinda)in the movie "Cannon Ball run" since then I loved fishing and fast cars
Listening to you talk about all these childhood reasons for loving black has me feeling so sentimental about my own obsession with white cars. Fantastic story.

Honestly, the opening scene of Mad Max is one of the absolutely best filmed car chase/action bits ever put to film
Heehee. Black's a really solid choice for those, especially at the time. (ie, when I was young in the 80s) Most of our GTSes over here people chose black for. (Most of the cars I've had personally wouldn't be really served by the color. But I always lind of appreciated it.
(Dark grey was also cool then, but somewhere along the line everything went to monochrome, pretty much so people got bored. Kind of plays into the personal style I evolved, which favors 'granny colors' like beige and light blue (plus greens ) and kiind of an OEM plus with some wheels for atitude and such. But black was really the color to have, if you didn't mind paying the few hundred bucks extra in the case of Toyotas.)

I usually talk shit about black and silver cars, there's too many of them and usually the pople driving them are unoriginal, but your compilation of black twincams absolutely proves once again that these boxes are meant to be black.
