Why? As you said in the video, Neil, it's simple: as 80 kids we are, we grew up with many cool black cars. But as always, as AE86 owners, we receive the same question: "Why not in black and white?" I have a friend here in Japan with an AE86 (green and black), and many people ask the same question in meetings. My god... If only they knew the popular color back in the day in Japan wasn't that one... I say this as an Initial D AE86 replica owner, and if I wasn't interested in the anime, probably I would aim for a Black Limited because it looks so cool, even if you prefer plain black, haha.
You just blew my mind with that detail from NFS 2015!!! I've played that game so much, and I never would've noticed that the in-game modifications were modeled after Patrick's car.
That clip of all those great car films American Graphiti is one of my favourites. 2 lane black top had a black 55 or 57 chevy it was a gasser kinda like Harrison Fords a Black 57 chevy bel.
I just love hearing you talk about something that others do on a whim with that much detail. This passion is why I love watching this channel and I think it is so refreshing instead of the usual new build every week in the youtube drifting space. Keep it up!
For all time, i liked the most the classic panda or white with Black bumper But i need to say, that Black with golden wheels etc looks amazing (All ae86's looks amazing)
As a kid, growing up in the 2000s, I was obsessed with back to the future and the Delorean. It was an old movie when it was new to me and none of my friends ever knew about it, but I watched it on DVD until the disc got too scratched to use hahaha, same addiction
Amazing that you stuck to your guns and chose something you’re truly happy with! Currently have a 93 GTI-R Pulsar and Y62 patrol in black and love them both. I grew up watching the same shows as you and i can understand the fascination.
Amazing work on the car! Sorry I didn't offer my support in a comment earlier. But it's a great series, I'm so proud of you and all your friends that have contributed to it. Cheers! Keep going!
I would watch all the "where this car is now" videos you release with the history about it through your magazine collection. Awesome videos! Keep it up!
Listening to you talk about all these childhood reasons for loving black has me feeling so sentimental about my own obsession with white cars. Fantastic story.
Love hearing you talk about your obsession of this dream black 86 and now coming to reality! So relatable to me as I've been obsessively dreaming of building a cherry apple red mk1 jzx100 chaser for years now, So cool to see this 86 finally getting painted after watching you pull it out of that grass all those years ago.
Black cars leave an impact. My uncle had a black manta b. As far as I'm concerned the coolest car on earth. Someday I'll have one maybe with a rb26. Glad the channel is growing. Awesome to hear people from the Irish car scene talking. Keep up the awesome work. Four channels is a bit posh but we can forgive that.
Im restoring a 79 Pontiac Trans Am for a fella atm its gold but he wants it black like the bandit , I absolutely agree I love black twin ca s since i saw one with redlines 😊.
12:27 i own that 86 thats in front of the brick wall now, its body is still rough but I've been looking after it for about 10 years now, I've had the motor built maybe 8 years ago. it was sr20 back then but the guy i bought it off swapped it to 20v, i have another motor ready to be swapped in very similar to your 20v, a silvertop with poncams, there's a video on my account of my car revving to 10k rpm on the dyno shortly after original motor build
Oh, so THIS is why I like black cars! It all makes so much more sense now :D Agree with you on print media, it will always have a special place in my heart. I've barely 2-3 shelves of them myself, but it keeps my glasses a healthy shade of rose tinted for sure! Some old Best Motoring issues, tons of Max Power and Redline because they were readily available at the time, and a bunch of old Top Gear mags to round it out.
Cars looking sick. The hard work and effort is really showing now its painted. Youre so so right about black cars! Thats why i decided on a black e24 :D
Black will always look the toughest colour of them all, I love my black supra on my profile pic but I want to change it up at some point. Excited for the backlog of videos from Japan!
I found you while at home in Covid, the 1st video I saw was the pick up Volvos. I had a 240 Volvo at the time so it peeked my interest. Since that day I must of watched3 hours of you guys a day till caught up! I love the colour choice and the reason behind it all! Keep going mate your doing awesome
A man after my own heart. Max’s V8 MFP interceptor pursuit special ford falcon was the ultimate in butch muscle in my opinion growing up. Still one the coolest cars ive ever seen. Great take in this video of all our childhoods. And the reasons for your colour choice. Well done man keep up the good work 🤙
I think you've probably explained why I love black cars (both my MR2-GTS and Hilux Surf are black) as I think I watched and loved all of those references you mentioned, at least the movies and TV. The only bad thing about black is it shows the dirt.
Neil, no matter what it is your talking about you always make it all so involving and entertaining, please don’t ever change 🤌🏼 Never usually a black car fan… but them shots of the rear quarter just had me in awe 💪🏼💪🏼 smashing it !
I loved this step inside your psyche Neil. The complete download of everything in your mind and your relationship with not just cars but this one obsession. I do this to my friends and they often tune me out. I'm so happy you shared this with everyone. I feel so akin to your thoughts and opinions on your influences. Great stuff man.
honestly the best part of the build is now the paint for me, the detail in the build is astonishing but the story and personal infatuation makes the color the coolest bit now
You totally made the right choice with the colour ! you've built this car for you not for the masses , love the choice it's a similar colour to Honda's Pirates black deffo got my vote ! I really wish I hadn't given up my magazines and sold some and some went in the bin I do miss the magazine era for sure ! look forward to the next update
this was incredible, my stepdad had a 1953 studebaker hard top - white with light ice blue flames... It was the coolest car I've ever seen and since then I've never seen anything like it - now I'm obsessed with white cars and building a eg hatch civic in pearl white. i really get it. Best car channel ever... ❤
Awesome stuff Neil, from the start I was hoping you with Ueo colour. Thought you might have gone with the cream but glad to see go black. Ueo Hachi was a Lil weapon. I.m glad to be here from the start and can't wait for the future. Awesome lads
As someone who also grew up with these shows, which I freaking love, I never did have a obsession with black cars. I mostly don't like it, especially with photography in mind. But with this explanation I kinda get it, it's you. Love your story tellings man, hypes me up everytime. 😂
As a kid from the 70's/80's, cars in the movies back then were cool, with my favourite being Mad Max's Pursuit Special Falcon, which I suppose is natural as I'am in Australia and I saw those cars all the time. Before discovering Juiceboxforyou and Nightride channel recently I didn't even know what a AE86 Trueno was. Doing some research it appears that it was sold as the Toyota Sprinter here in Australia which I did not know. The only Toyotas that I saw in Australia on a regular basic was the Corona, Corolla & Camry which I found to be plain or boring. We did have other makes of Toyota which weren't as common, though I must admit they are very reliable cars with my parents having a few over the years.
As soon as you said you choose black, images of Ueo's car popped into my head. Short clips of his car tearing it up at Bihoku were some of the first drift videos my friends and I watched.
Neil, the amount of times I watched the same Ueo ‘Professor’ spec, black Trueno videos is uncanny. That exact car inspired my old black Levin build. I stupidly went and sold it but it’s so good to see someone else with the same love for a black 86! About to hopefully build another one lol. Love your work ❤
Every car that I have ever owned has been black so i salute you Neil 👏👏👏 This was such a great video, nostalgia trip for sure and also had a thing for the bad ass black cars in movies too. Now the car is nearly complete its about time i post you a gift for my appreciation of all your awesome content over the years. Look forward to see the finished masterpiece and the size of the grin on yer face mate 👍
I fell in love with the Lamborghini as a kid when I first seen John candy in the red lambo skip across the lake 😅 (kinda)in the movie "Cannon Ball run" since then I loved fishing and fast cars
My first car was a black 91 Civic Si (some sort of metallic). I also owned a 2002 EP Si in Nighthawk Black Pearl. Honda does some killer black metallics. Ironically I fell in love with some of the same black movie and TV cars as you, only ten years earlier, when they were first broadcast. 😂 👴🏻
Think I enjoyed the stories of your legend of a dad who taped all them films for you.Just as much as the new savage colour bro keep up the content really enjoyable can't wait to see her finished
Lad We have come a Long way since I'm so happy for you lad I'e been following watching Your videos since the 86 was in the bush waiting for someone to pick it up You've make a lot of blood sweat time resources man power and effort to put this all up From thr ground up. Man I think I'm gonna cry in joy right now
That’s super cool! I’ve not been following for long but I’ve really enjoyed watching the progression on your 86! Found your series ‘japan in a van’ during covid lockdown in the UK and have loved every video you’ve made since finding that series of yours! Keep up the amazing content!
I have that datsun still from when I was a kid great work on the 86 the brown effect sort of stays true to the colour of the car from when u pulled it from the field that maroon colour
I think those old movies had a similar effect on me, I have two black cars, one has red and black interior and the other is full black interior. You know what they say, " keep on pushing!!!"
Heehee. Black's a really solid choice for those, especially at the time. (ie, when I was young in the 80s) Most of our GTSes over here people chose black for. (Most of the cars I've had personally wouldn't be really served by the color. But I always lind of appreciated it. (Dark grey was also cool then, but somewhere along the line everything went to monochrome, pretty much so people got bored. Kind of plays into the personal style I evolved, which favors 'granny colors' like beige and light blue (plus greens ) and kiind of an OEM plus with some wheels for atitude and such. But black was really the color to have, if you didn't mind paying the few hundred bucks extra in the case of Toyotas.)
Now for some PPF at least on the high impact areas before its starts to get chipped up. You might even do the doors and rear quarters before you track it. ✌️
Black is a hard work colour Neil to be fair.. that explains all the block flatting.. It looks amazing, credit to all the work that you have put in and that paint is phenomenal.. TOP WORK.. Love it 👌👌👍👍✌✌
I usually talk shit about black and silver cars, there's too many of them and usually the pople driving them are unoriginal, but your compilation of black twincams absolutely proves once again that these boxes are meant to be black. I recognised like half of those grainy Japanese pictures from the stuff I collected on my hard drive over the last ten or so years. And your black with a little bit extra is even better. Personally I ended up with a white car, and now I love it. For like two days at a time after cleaning it
Completely agree with the black, the original mad max is definitely the reason I’m into cars now, honestly the noises from that movie still give me chills
I had a Mitsubishi Mirage painted Amethyst Black and it was that black that flashes purple in the sun. I loved that colour and it always looked awesome. But it had to be washed every second day and polished once a month because dust knocked the gloss out and spider webbing ruined the finish.
I think you perfectly explained my love for black cars 😂 my black ae86 though was a black s13 I would see parked all the time. Still obsessed with it to this day.
I love it and completely understand the obsession. In a similar way I'm slightly obsessed with white cars. Just always been drawn to them. I love the look of a lot of cars in an icy or just gloss white: 180sx, r33 skyline, s15, 1st gen r8, gallardo's, etc. And a funny thing, while playing some racing games, I always thought it was weird that it was weird that there was rarely a factory white option for ferrari's. Especially the f40. So I made a couple white f40's in various games (nfs 2015 and fh4) waaaay before I knew about the f40 liberty walk made. (love what they did with it) Also in the 2015 nfs most wanted, having all the blacklist cars be white was so cool to me. (I had goosebumbs seeing the cutscene for the aventador first time!) So yeah, I kinda get it. I'm really happy for you, godspeed to ya.
Honestly just hearing your story of childhood movies makes me realise how important cars have always been to me! You have a skill for story telling and editing, can actually sit through all of your videos lol.

Your ability to tell a story is amazing. Never stop

Well done getting in Option. You deserve them giving you tribute.
I just love hearing you talk about something that others do on a whim with that much detail. This passion is why I love watching this channel and I think it is so refreshing instead of the usual new build every week in the youtube drifting space. Keep it up!
I don't even like toyotas but I've been watching this story from the beginning because of your personality.
I love the facts on the WDT 86 and NFS 2015 kit. That's why I watch ya, always a revelation.
For all time, i liked the most the classic panda or white with Black bumper
But i need to say, that Black with golden wheels etc looks amazing
(All ae86's looks amazing)

Buzzing you choose black!! One of my fave episodes to watch. Really enjoyed this one.
i love hearing the history behind your passion! incredibly jealous of your life-long love for cars

I wrecked my black FK7 last March so your color choice is very meaningful to me. :) Thanks for carrying her on with your passions.
Hell yeah Maximum Overdrive!!!! Right there with Raw head Rex!
Your passion for this car is completely unrivalled by anything I’ve ever seen before. Incredible.
Great story nice to see people pick a colour that's brought enjoyment on so many different cars
Im restoring a 79 Pontiac Trans Am for a fella atm its gold but he wants it black like the bandit , I absolutely agree I love black twin ca s since i saw one with redlines 😊.
YOU DID IT FOR DALE,,,, UNREAL 🏁😁
My 04 Ralliart has black with a beautiful midnight blue metal flake and really pops in the sunlight! I love your black with that metal flake!
Brilliant, absolutely had the same influences and don’t forget Streethawk and Airwolf there too
Why not 😊 My 1st Toyota was black.. polished a minimum of 3 times a week ❤

I'm buzzing. That paint job is so clean! We're so close to see the last bits of the build come together. What a journey!
Love that you went with black and the reason behind is awesome!!! My family loves black cars due to the same reasons!
Can relate to your car interests so much mate, not unlike yourself with the whole Eurosport watching racing then onto drifting etc. Class!
My advice on a black car is invest in a good detail and then either I really good coating or a PPF to protect it
Cars looking sick. The hard work and effort is really showing now its painted.
Youre so so right about black cars! Thats why i decided on a black e24 :D
Black will always look the toughest colour of them all, I love my black supra on my profile pic but I want to change it up at some point. Excited for the backlog of videos from Japan!
The Maximum Overdrive bit had my dying. I also watched the hell out of that movie as a kid. Hyped to see your 86 soon!

Excited to see what's next. 2 videos a week is the move now that your full time!
Quite literally my favorite channel on the platform! Love these deep dive, personal commentary style videos. Thanks for all that you do Neil!

Oh yeah, this channel is definitely on Patreon money now haha. Crazy to see how fast the production quality boosted, great work
Incredible to see how far you've come with this build. Looking forward to see it fully finished!
Love it! Glad you did what you're heart wanted. It all makes sense

Neil you're unveiling the AE86 for my birthday? I cant believe this. It's been a long trip man thanks for the birthday present.
Every car that I have ever owned has been black so i salute you Neil 👏👏👏
This was such a great video, nostalgia trip for sure and also had a thing for the bad ass black cars in movies too.

Man I miss print. But excited to see the 86 all back together and the latest Japan trip content.
That’s super cool! I’ve not been following for long but I’ve really enjoyed watching the progression on your 86! Found your series ‘japan in a van’ during covid lockdown in the UK and have loved every video you’ve made since finding that series of yours! Keep up the amazing content!
This is amazing, when you mentioned seven years I was like: “that cannot be” but time flies, and the content has been awesome, keep it up! 👌🏻
Love the video. Excited to see those other videos from Japan and FinalBout.
Your passion and knowledge of jdm cars is top-notch Neil. Class video as always. 😊
Nothing looks better than a crystal clear black car! also random I know the theme song is at the end but I do miss it being in the intro.

My all time fav black hero/villain movie car is the death proof nova.
This is so cool! So much passion poured into your car. So happy for you, excited to see the progress!
TOP WORK.. Love it 👌👌👍👍✌✌
To be Frank I love your AE86 no matter what color you picked. But Black makes it so much better, absolute favorite. 👏👏
I usually talk shit about black and silver cars, there's too many of them and usually the pople driving them are unoriginal, but your compilation of black twincams absolutely proves once again that these boxes are meant to be black. Some man Neil I'm actually delighted for you black is the perfect colour they just can't be beat. A black beauty I need a poster of it 😂
Your passion and knowledge is intoxicating
I used to love the black charger in DEATHPROOF 😮
It feels unreal that the car is finally painted. So proud of you for seeing this project all the way through
Amazing Neil Jackie is a legend what a paint job I love it can't wait to see it in the flesh ❤ congratulations on this epic journey
Completely agree with the black, the original mad max is definitely the reason I’m into cars now, honestly the noises from that movie still give me chills
15:11 I have this exact photo ahaha. Your AE86 turned out gorgeous.
I had a Mitsubishi Mirage painted Amethyst Black and it was that black that flashes purple in the sun.

I think you perfectly explained my love for black cars 😂 my black ae86 though was a black s13 I would see parked all the time. Still obsessed with it to this day.
the is a 100% my favourite channel of all time i stop every thing just to watch this vid

congratulations niel🎉🎉🎉 glad to see. what the future brings us all

Was never a fan of black cars but you've convinced me!
