Also the first part of the OP with the strawhats shows that if he couldn't save his crew, he will save his brother to prove to himself that he can make it to the new world, sadly he would fail both and will have to wait a year and a bit to be ready

i don't think this one is actually all that bad. there's a solid, unwavering energy and strength to the song. kinda like luffy! but then in the middle, there's a dark bridge that matches with ace's capture, and the montage of luffy running through impel down. the dichotomy between light and dark and how it constantly switches moods is pretty funny. it helps that the song is pretty catchy lol (also the animation for this opening is really well done)
Everytime I watch videos of people reacting to OP's Opening 1-23, I was singing my heart out and was fascinated by how they positively react to the songs, but every single time this OP plays, I just can't stop myself from crying. This is such a happy opening song for an incoming arc (foreshadowing Marineford War) so sad any OP fans will have second thoughts on rewatching 🥺🤧
I had so many second thoughts on rewatching thanks to the opening reactions, and now I'm watching One Piece with my sister (who's watching it for the first time) and it's been a great experience! Were almost done with Water 7 too~ :') There are a lot of details I forgot about that make One Piece amazing.
Although this OP isn’t on Crunchyroll (still bitter about it) I can still appreciate the symbolism of optimism with underlying dread for this arc. So you sit there listening to this clearly happy song but you understand that it’s for naught and it will lead to one of the saddest moments in One Piece.
