Spring Has Arrived At My Off-Grid Cabin | Snowshoe Fishing, BBQ and Moose!

  • After seven months of extreme cold, deep snow and almost no daylight, spring has finally arrived in Alaska. It's time to get the 4-wheeler dug out and head down to the river to try and catch some Alaskan rainbow trout. However, the remaining 2 feet of snow will make everything more difficult than anticipated. Then we fire up the grill and make a delicious barbecue dinner. Life is good at the cabin.

Basic maintenance would be to remove the battery for winter, doesn't do it any good to be frozen.

Ya buddy life is good in the woods!!! I moved full time up into the woods after I retired. Loving every minute of it.I don’t mind being snowed in, or cutting and splitting fire wood. Power is on again off again, heat up bath water on the wood stove life is good. I sure love it more than living in the city!! This year I hope to have a big garden and can what grow. I wish I could of come out here when I was a young fella!!

If you're Alaskan, the charcoal chimneys work best If you load it up with all your winter trash.

What a gorgeous river view. Too bad about the fishies, but that’s the game eh. My mum always cut that bbq’d flank steak across in super thin slices for plating, as the long grain made it tough otherwise. Med rare too, so there was a red “gravy” to be mopped up with a slab of fresh sourdough. Mmmm.
Thanks for sharing your Spring adventure. 🤙🍻

Nice lookin flank steak Matt! I know you sometimes ask for suggestions so heres one just incase you BBQ a lot. I use that same weber grill and I love starting the charcoal with the weber brand charcoal chimney. It works really well with just newspaper incase you don't want to use lighter fluid. I'm very jealous of your lifestyle, and think you are living a more fulfilling and healthy life up there!

Spring is finally here . How wild it looked with the snow I was completely afraid that you would sink completely away, ha ha But isn't it nice that the time is now and not a long winter in aim, Now there has been enough snow and we need a warm sun and a green nature. I enjoyed your music for the video and nice that you talked to us, yes, a really good and pleasant afternoon with a good cup of coffee and home-baked cake and your video. Then it can't get any better. Hope you and the family are well, oh yes, where is your beloved dog, he is so sweet and well behaved, take care out there in the wilderness because you are worth your weight in gold and a lovely person, Many hugs Liv Maria. Hi Matt I have witnessed so many moose around town this last couple weeks. Are they always this well behaved? They have been very respectful and kept their distance from me.
I don’t know if you enjoy art projects but I have recently taken this mosaic art class where we made puffins. Mine came out looking a little funny but she sure has some spirit. lol Everyone in the class was very nice and the instructor was too.
My brother do you know when the snow will ever melt? I want to try some fry hiking soon….

Question, is your music available anywhere?
It would be great if I could use it in some of my videos or just to listen too.

Do you need to carry a pistol when you go fishing due to the bears? Man, that Suzuki has been a good one for sure at 30+ years! Isn't Suzuki's slogan "First On Four Wheels"? Great video!

I carry a 10mm when I’m in high risk bear country. Like salmon packed rivers, with lots of brush and things like that, but I also ALWAYS have a bear spray in my fishing vest. Thanks for watching. Yeah that wheeler is so great! Runs better than my car and I don’t even change the oil 😂
