My dad was a union man his whole life, boilermaker in St. Louis. Grandpa was union too. This entire nation owes a debt to the labor movement that's almost impossible to comprehend.
Great song indeed. Hopefully we here in the U.S. can do something to turn around the terribly anti-union public sentiment in the country. Nearly every male in my family uncles, grandfathers, and cousins are in the local 537 pipefitters union in Boston, and i'm currently in law school to be a labor lawyer. Solidarity from #Occupywallst.
I downloaded the video yesterday and shared it on Facebook. At this time, our union (AUPE) is under attack from the Tory government in Alberta, Canada. They're attempting to eliminate our bargaining rights and impose dramatic cuts in our pension plan. Your video was positive and relevant. Thanks CFMEU. In solidarity Ed Mullin
Yep! Some Construction workers are united rather than in Ireland when we had a Construction Boom the majority those on Sites had to work as 'Self Employed "C2" Contractors' towards the end it became 'Manic!' undercutting each outher to get the contracts pricing even below cost! so that they might make a few bob on the next contract..As for the Main Contractor had the workers where he wanted them Running around in unsafe conditions like headless chickens and creating unsafe Sites great Song!
Let us all help to speed the day when this wonderful earth and its rich resources are held in common for the benefit of all humanity.Workers of all lands unite.
Was introduced to the CMFEU by my brothers who were union delegates back in the day . Been on a few May Day marches and social events . Kevin was a great bloke my bro Tony has this song stated for his funeral .He was called Bulldog
I hear the echo of Mother Jones sending her greetings to all union sisters and brothers in all countries on this July 4th. Company man, when will you learn?
We meet again, Chubbo. Just as "democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried" (Churchill), unions have their flaws, but they're just better than any other means of addressing grievances that have been tried. There's strength in numbers, it's as simple as that. One lone individual who goes to his boss and says “I’ve been a loyal employee and never missed a day’s work in 25 years. Can I have a raise?" is going to be told, "You're fired."
Union songs are great, I've even written a few myself, but check out local union heroes too, mine is "William Davis" who died in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. He was fighting for the water and electricity after the British Empire Steel Corp. shut down the supply to the town, including hospital and schools. William Davis was shot through the heart as the result of over 300 rounds being fired from horseback by the British Empire Police Force. Harry Muldoon was known as the shooter who murdered Davis.
As for Wisconsin, " Indiana Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Cox was fired after suggesting that Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker should use live ammunition against pro-union protesters involved in the 2011 Wisconsin protests." (Wikipedia) Would that have been an ethical response to the protesters?
@Aussie Nodwell before lazarus brought his work choices and changed all the IR laws against construction workers it use to be compulsory to be a member before you went on any project since the laws changed so have the people that are new to the industry and never lost a penny for any of the perks we have today 23 yrs ago i was on a 10 wk on 1 off no tv no fridge shared amenities today foxtel air con ensuite pc playstation i pods 4 wks on 1 off now bosses gave us Nada we fought for everything
No is the time that people need to understand that we have to stand together in this war that the working class has to fight against the greedy corporations in this country. If we do not stand together and fight them we will all be working for the 50 cents a day and working 16 hours a day 7 days a week 365 days a year. If everybody understood that they are worth more than the pittance that they want to pay them then things would change real fast. SEIU Local 49 stands with all unions!!!!!!!!!
@Aussienod a boss no one expects yourself to be a member your workers well that's up to the individual depends on their trade unfortunately the last 5 yrs since lazarus brought his work choices and IR laws it created a division amongst the construction workforce too many greenhorns that only care about themselves but when shit hits the fan they join up to get an extra dollar which members have to fight for good luck with your business but one cannot blame people for being a union member like me
Hmmm. . . it's rousing, to be sure. But I still like the "Look for the Union Label" song from the 1970s best. It's message is more positive and patriotic without being strident.
So you don't want to talk about the Haymarket Era, and yet you do want to talk about what happened to your grandfather during that very era. What happened to him was wrong and should not have happened. Did you know that the 4 people who were executed for that crime had nothing to do with throwing the bomb? In later years it was clear that they were wrongly convicted because somebody had to pay for that crime. I'm sure those 4 men had families too, children and grandchildren.
Chubby dear, next time remove your head from your sphincter before posting. You don't need a union for your benefits? Where do you think those benefits came from? Your boss gave them to you out of the goodness of his little heart?
I want to thank all the union members in the northern americas. You have a really diffuclt task. Organise in your local unions and in your communist party if you havent already. ITS THE SAME TO STRIKE, MARCH ON WORKING CLASS
@straken9k1 whats this hate for unions? whats wrong with the workers bargaining with their masters? :P seriously though, what the fuck is wrong with giving the low workers the right to get a good wage from the bosses, who honestly would pay their guys $0 if they could get away with it

Obviously not.
the first two guitar notes of this song are similar to another well known rock song. does someone know what song im talking about?
our Steelworkers Union was like this! started by communists, a democratic fighting union!
The compny can't pay their outrageous bonuses if there's no workers to produce what the want to sell.
Time for a good hard core Melbourne union tune.

Respect the country you live in? In what it is important? Every single thing you have was won by class war.
if that's the best union song I would hate to hear the worst...lol
There are not enough character available to avoid fallacies of logic. Sorry.
We're union through and through,
We're all forced to pay our dues,
What does the union do?
Pick the pockets of both me and you.
Go fuck yourself.
So quit bitching about it and fix it! That's what a union is for.
You're thinking the boss. :)
