I bought that same bike in 1984 with my re-enlistment bonus when I was in the Marine Corps. I rode the hell out of that bike, all over SoCal and up and down PCH. What a great bike. Brings back great memories.

Me too. I lived in Alhambra, CA. Bought mine used had under 300 miles. Original owner lived in a mansion in LA. He wanted 2k and I offered 1k. He said OK and also gave me 2 helmets, leather riding jacket, gloves and a tour of his mansion.

My dad, who's now nearing 70, owns exactly this bike. He's owned it for at least 20 years now, and it's got 63000 miles on it. Still going strong, and those Honda's sound so so smooth. When he got it I was around 20 and didn't really like the model, but as I got older it got nicer and nicer. Today I absolutely love it and don't think I'll ever let it go. It really ages well and grows on you. It makes you understand that things like bikes over time don't change, but it is you yourself that changes. Let go of certain things too soon in life can be a big mistake looking back. I ride it now more and more next to my own zx9r, both incomparable bikes with each other, but both fantastic bikes. Young women seem to dig the Nighthawk more than the zx9r, I guess I have to admit that the model, black paint job, chrome accents really make this bike both classy and bad ass. I did put steel braided break lines on it though, kept them black sleeved so the stainless ends really put a nice touch on it. Unfortunately my dads Nighthawk doesn't have these original "slash cut" mufflers, but luckely good imitations that are just normal straight cut. Awesome bike, even for a beginning rider.

I had a burgundy Nighthawk 650 just like this back in the late 80s. It was my first streetbike. Honda put many high tech (for the time) features on these. Shaft drive & 6 speed transmission. Dual front disc brakes and TRAC anti-dive forks. Full instrumentation including a gear indicator. Hydraulic lifters. It was a great all around motorcycle! Hagerty online value for a mint Nighthawk 650 is $6100.

I have an 83 Nighthawk 650 that I bought as a starter bike for 1200 CAD, and I love that thing. it's such an incredibly smooth bike. It's got 72000 kms on it so it's not in near as nice condition but it still purrs like a kitten.

Wow! Nice. bought an 83 brand new In Millington, TN. when I was in the Navy but in the burgundy color. My first bike. Rode it from TN to upstate NY, got crated to PR my next duty station. Rode all over PR, then crated to VA Beach, my last duty station. Total of 30k miles of fun. Great bike. Thanks for the memories.
Now, what's with the lousy routing of the SS brake lines on this one??? Otherwise a great time machine. BTW $2900 brand new in 83. Good old days, I miss the 80's.

Got one in a 3 bike deal. Actually my first road bikes. Got a CB650 and a CB350 with it also. I drove it from south of Worcester to West Yarmouth Cape Cod about every weekend. It must of drove from one end of the Cape to the other about 30 times. It actually help keep some miles of my 66 Chevelle SS 396 and was a dream in the heavy Cape Cod traffic. That thing was so smooth. It would be nice to drive one again
I took the rgeg CB650 one weekend...ONE WEEKEND. It had some issues and had a nasty vibration which didn't seem bad until you hit the highway. Of course I took it the day I had 4 wisdom teeth surgically extracted. It actually vibrated 3 of the teeth stitches out. Yep that was a weekend I will never forget. It actually made me hate Honda for abit

Damn, this brings back memories. Mostly good. I owned one of these a long time ago. Great bike... overall... 1983 was the first year of production for a then all-new bike. No matter how few the miles, if a bike has been sitting a long time, you should take it to a good mechanic before you go riding it. It was a lot of motorcycle for the money. The funny thing is, now, buying one of these in great shape will cost more than when new. Then you might have to pay for some needed upgrading. If I had the money, I would look for a 1985 version, and go from there. This bike has so many virtues vs few liabilities. And just look at it! It's one of the coolest, now retro-modern, motorcycles out there. Thank you Kaplan America

Kind of a shame that nobody even gave this engine hell, not even broken in. Really nice to see one in factory condition tho. I have an 84 one with 63 thousand miles on it. I live in Poland and in came from United States so it's been through half of the world. Exhausts, manifolds, levers all scratched to hell from crashes. Tank was rusty inside so I put nuts and bolts inside and taped it to the concrete mixer. It keeps up with new bikes, does great around town and on twisties. Of course compared to new bikes, riding it really let's you know it's old technology but the charm and smell of it is unbeatable. During a traffic stop cop told me it looks amazing at 40 yo and it's forbidden to sell it so gonna keep an eye out for new parts and keep it. My first bike and probably last one I will sell
