My Honda CB450 Lives Again! First Time Running In 18 Years!

  • Another classic motorcycle revived and back on the road! This is my 1974 Honda CB450 which I picked up a few months ago in a trade. I have always loved the 450 and 500 twins as I had built a custom one some years back and just love how they perform. This bike was in really good shape with no corrosion, no parts missing, and not locked up so it actually came back to life very easily! Look for this bike in future videos as I make some small changes to it and simply enjoy it!
I apologize for the lost footage on this one as it really hurts when that happens. This one really wanted to run again and I feel so bad that I don't have those clips.

I have a 74 CL450 that I have restored over the last year. I also have a 72 SL350 that I like very much. Hands down, as much as I like the SL350, the 450 is heads and shoulders above it. A much overlooked bike from that era. The old man in me (I'm 66) says to go original on the seat. Love your videos!

Sounds great. If you're going to leave the original paint on the tank I'd keep the seat stock, just get a new cover. If you're going to do a custom paint job on the bike, then a different seat would work. I'd figure out a way to get that dent out of the tank. Seems like you could pop it out from the inside.

Wonderful. But, honestly, old Hondas steered like dump trucks. I loved that bike and was happily unaware of the steering being something that might be improved. DOHC hoo yah.

It was great hearing it come to life when you got the other carb working no rebuild 😅😁 classic Great video really enjoyed watching cheers mate

Look at patterns/colours unique to the age of the bike? But keep the honda logo in the rear 😉 have abit of fun with it your cb750 is already a gorgeous example, love the videos man, always learning something from you! Appreciate the content 👌

Love it but it does need a seat re-do and maybe take the dent out of the tank. So, just a suggestion: pull the dark brown into the piping and the strap as subtle accents. The black seat body balances the black tires. So, that modest change may be in the ballpark of intent. Subtle tends to be elegant for me. It has great character for sure.

I would keep the shape of the seat the same so it looks factory, change the cover to original looks BUT use some very suttle customisation with the stitching. I would get the stitching done in the same color that the striping is on the tank. Essentially I would want it to look like it could have been a special edition from Honda back in the day.
And yeah the mufflers gotta go for something more appropriate maybe even original.

I dont see a thumbs up just a thumbs down? Sorry I was being very dumb. I did not realize that when you click on the thumbs up the icon go's away. Very good video thank you, I had a 75 Suzuki 550 triple new. Took a 13,000 mile trip with my girlfriend down to Mexico and across the US was on the road for 4 months.

Hi BJ original on the seat sounds right but defo wouldn’t look out of place with a change to match the tank actually I think it would look pretty sweet to be honest , cool looking bike man and very clean for the time it sat also like the look on the dials with age gives it character take care and ride safe guys all the best 👍👌🏍️🏍️🏍️🔧🔧🔧❤️

I’d stick with black of some sort (likely original) as the seat cover because too much brown and it’s a CB500T. Which are brown on brown on more brown

On the seat question, one option provides more content than the other. We are an audience, so I am guessing people are going to chose Custom! Depends on the demographic too. Regardless, I am very interested in your design process. I'm still fanboy-ing hard about ranger green.

I'm surprised to see the vote is pretty much 50/50 so that's cool!

Bought one of these after seeing it for $225 on the side of the road. Had the same issue with fuel leaking into the engine. Never had that happen before, is that a petcock thing or a carb thing? Anyway, loved that bike the few times I rode it. It is living on with someone else. If I see one again I’ll get it. :) Great video.

That is first am issue with the petcock either leaking fuel or being left on. After that the floats can stick open

I vote for custom seat, something new and experimental you always can get a cheap replacement again
