AROMATIC, INTENSE, MASCULINE - VIRIDE by ORTO PARISI

  • It's my view that fragrances are gender neutral; there's no such thing as a "man's or a woman's perfume"…..but then VIRIDE comes along, and not only do I think this this is a masculine fragrance but a perfume that is designed for a man who is 40+ (and none other can make this fragrance work). This is aromatic, powerful, intense, woody and very masculine. I feel that it amplifies me and my 'Marcelo' scent.
VIRIDE (Green in Latin) feels like you've been living in a rain forest, allowing the greenness to seep into your skin and become one with you. This is an aromatic green woods fragrance that has a deep masculine tones. Like all the Orto Parisi it must be tried on skin, not on a card.
As a self confessed Alessandro Gualtieri Fan Boy, I want to go through the entire ORTO PARISI range and share my love for this liquid art form.
I'm in love with perfume and beautiful smells. I deeply love niche perfumes and find that they are unique and incredibly diverse. I am Marcelo and I'm the Niche Fragrance Collector.

Thank you @Jesus Arv…I wasn’t intending on going that philosophical but I just roll camera’s and see where the ‘moment’ takes me (hopefully it wasn’t too much….like I said in the episode, it’s just a perfume, but scent is a big deal to me, and so I sometimes I get a bit ‘caught up’😂)

I bought this and OMG! this is so deep and beautiful. If you smell it from close, you'll only get a nice hairy black musk. It's intensely manly and not animalic, but you can't decipher the green facet from close. When you turn you head around the other way, now you get that black musc fizz carrying around a dark green foresty note to you. It's consistent and strong, but very gentlemanly and not overpowering (like vanilla notes).
It's insanely good and complex, trust me. I didn't know i would love black musk, but now i am yearning for more.
It has huge longevity on cloth - easily 12 hours. You think it's done and not there anymore, but then you hang your shirt somewhere for an hour and it completely fills that area with the musky smell. You don't need much of this stuff - 2 sprays on each side on shirt is enough.
This is my first one from Orto parisi and i am already loving it.

It is clear that you love the 'black musk' scent and I love the way that you've outlined the progression of Viride. In truth I need to explore further the scent profile to 'black musk' any fragrance's that you would recommend that I test?

I’m thoroughly enjoying binge-watching your review of Orto Parisi (much as I did the Nasomatto line and your videos on Xerjoff.) I particularly appreciate your deep knowledge behind the fragrances that so obviously move you. Would you consider doing a wide-angle “establishing shot” video covering the many houses of Italy? Of course a full video series that then takes a deep dive into each would be heaven…you’ve got a nice start with the three houses I mentioned…. By the way - every time you say, “Vanillar,” you remind me of my dad, who was from Camden. Thank you for that.

I love the thought of doing an "establishing shot" on the Italian House's. Who would you have in this line up? I’ll keep you posted as I turn up fragrances that catch my nose. I hope you know that your content and production values are more than a cut above the vast, vast, VAST majority of what’s out there; more like passionate docudramas than a catalog of the latest “compliment magnets”. Im 25 but look way younger than my age and I recently bought viride as my 5th Orto parisi and the first initial spray made me think, hold on … this kinda smells like nasonattos pardon ? But then something like Eucalyptus hit me and a lot of aromatic green herbal notes and and this wet wood type smell kinda swamp like and humid air and a touch of boccanera. I was really confused and didn’t know if I liked it ( I actually totally adore all of my Orto parisi) but then a chocolate like note joined viride and the musks started coming through and a slight sweetness and this whole combination of herbs, aromatics, green notes, woods, musks and sweetness blended with my own body musk and heat created a beautiful scent bubble around me. Invigorating smell. 2 of my co workers complimented me and one of them said, I can’t stop walking behind you because you leave such a wonderful scent trail. Viride is a masterpiece just like any other Orto parisi and ye, also a young looking 25 years old can wear it 😇

Tried it today - it's like green aromatic meets Encre Noire. It has that dark black base of Encre Noire, but made more interesting with lighter green and aromatic notes. You can smell both the intense base & the lighter aromatic notes at the same time.
It reminds of how nature smells before a storm starts - dark cloudy sky, a intense storm is about to come, something dark is looming over, but yet it is just windy right now - playful swirling wind is carrying the green aroma from the trees. You want smell that more but you can't go out because you are constantly reminded of the coming storm.

@@TheNicheFragranceCollector Marcel, well here goes. Been wearing it for two days now. Initial impression: this is geared best for a mature male. The scent is woody green as you mentioned but I think of it as a damp tree bark with green moist which a deer has brushed up on and dislodged into the undergrowth. It's not dank or musty smelling at all. The musk does shine through for me giving it a airiness appeal. The green notes do have some spice but they aren't recognizable but are there and they freshen up the green notes. The woods are always present. The opening has a minty note. This completes my Orto Parisi collection and I dare say this falls into the "most wearable" grouping along with Seminalis and Stercus. The next grouping are "more daring" include Brutus Cuoium and Boccaera (misspelled, sorry) and the "most unique" grouping include Bergamask, Terroni and Megamare. Don't get me wrong they are all my top shelf fragrances and this is the only line that I've bought 100% of the line. Back to Viride: Easiest to wear, best for mature male, sets close to skin, performance is good but not up to par with the "Most Unique" grouping of OP's which last for 15+ hours or longer. Viride is a nice wear but hasn't brought out the inner WOW, at least not yet. Inner WOWs come out everytime with Bergamask, Terroni, Megamare and Cuoium. Could go on and various sortings of OP's but you get the idea. Thanks for asking for my thoughts on Viride.

Hey marcelo! Although i was really sold by your words approaching the orto parisi line i sadly found alot of them very challenging and not as pleasant to my pallet as i would have liked (that said nasomatto is the much preferred line from Alessandro).
Regarding viride i actually like this one quite abit, it's very similar to amouage bracken man to but feels even smoother, highly natural clove-like smell and a better blend than the amouage!
But among the orto parisi range i sadly only found viridie, bergamask snd maybe boccanera enjoyable to my taste..i would have thought terroni would be a perfect fit for me but it does not smell at all like black afgano like some have mentioned and i do much prefer black afgano over it.😅

Great to hear from you Shawn💫 and yes, the Orto Parisi's are purposely meant to be challenging. From what I've read from Alessandro, he wanted these to be a massive musk, animalic bomb💥....already you know that's not going to be for everyone.
I also agree that his Nasomatto range is a lot more complex, nuanced and diverse (whereas the Orto Parisi's you're constantly being smacked with those animalic notes!)
Out of interest have you tried Brutus? I find this one to be a bit of sleeper in the range. Not as animalic as the others and it fools you to think that it's a softer fragrance; but in fact is brilliantly masculine
Thanks for reaching out Shawn; hoping all is well with you mate👊🏽

@shawn6170 this one here is not your typical Orto Parisi you could repackage this and put it in a Nasomatto bottle… it’s a lot more subtle and refined compared to its siblings (in other words, don’t expect a beast mode monster)

Great to hear from you! The structure of Viride is a fougere so yes, it does have some similarities to Braken Man....but this one drysdown a lot dirtier, woodier. It retains the green elements to the fragrance but it's not a 'fresh' perfume.

Thanks for sharing what fragrance means to you and how the memories of being, play into the essence of your passion.
I have only ever thought of life in visual terms, I see the aesthetic and visual, and seldom do I find myself remembering events based on scent, I really appreciate (appreciate is the wrong word, I don't mean it in a lackadaisical manner or how one appreciates a cold drink after a long day in the garden but something like that) how that sense forms what your daily life is like.
Here's a thing, do you think theres a difference between people who use only the one scent (don't change through the seasons, wear it for every occasion and have stayed with the same scent for longer than one can imagine), to people who use multiple scents and how they collate memories?

Hey Qasim, always wonderful to hear from you. I love your deep analysis and thoughts.
My take on ‘scent’ is that most people under appreciate the power that it has to enhance your life. I realize that this is a very large statement and it almost sounds like a ‘marketing exaggeration’….but I challenge an individual to stop and consider their everyday movement through life, think of something that they did in the day (visualize it) and then think what did they smell….you’ll be impressed at how people will go, “oh yeah, I remember the smell of the coffee or fruit or flower” (at first they’ll complain that this is a stupid exercise). The bottom line is that we are constantly smelling but if we’re not aware/conscious then our brain moves on and we miss out on enjoying and adding this to the richness of our lives.
Like everything, the more we train our sense of smell the more it will develop and then the more we’ll seek olfactory experiences.
      Perfume is life♥️

@@TheNicheFragranceCollector yes Marcelo, it certainly brought up some interesting thoughts whilst watching the segment about your personal experiences with family.
I totally understand why you say about the under-appreciation or acknowledgment of scent until its questioned. One of my favourite scents are freshly mown grass, and also this liquid seaweed feed that I use, Turpentine is also high on my deeply established olfactory memory. One of my favourite flowers is the old rose, Ispahan, that when in full bloom on a hot day is just incredible. I feel the same way of Rosemary on a warm close day. Just like anything, Art, Film, Music, single estate chocolate from x, small estate tree harvested from 150-200 trees, it all just requires a little push and a huge amount of trust in the system xD
Have a great easter weekend Marcelo, and thanks again for the Maté
