what you can do additionally (in the shown position): bring your right wrist as close as possible to your left elbow what lifts your right wrist. This elevates his shoulder even more and you have more space to bring his elbow to the mat which creates more torquing force.
I was just going to add this comment as well. Moving the hand that is holding your wrist to a position closer to the same-arm elbow makes the Americana more effective. If you inch your hand bit by bit closer to your elbow, you get to a point where you barely need to lift their elbow.
So amazed at & grateful for these details after starting BJJ last year. Having just watched it in MMA for a long time, I thought it was indeed just the lifting of the elbow Even for the arm bar, I used to think it was just "get the arm between your legs & lie down" 😅
A really great way of demonstrating this move is to put their hand on the floor above their head and toss their elbow up in the air. Let everyone see it move up without resistance and flop back down to the floor. Then move their elbow down close to their body and lift the elbow up a half an inch for the tap...it gets the point across.
As always, great stuff.
Yep paint the floor with their fist!
