    thanks for the prompt reply, Yeah true, you are the only one as of now that shows the control buttons have been relocated,i was a bit suprised about this, but however, if the image quality is far more superb then the d700 due to its new processor, sensor & high mp's, i might consider, do keep us posted, really looking forward for your photos reviews on the d600.

    Glad you like it, I am going to upload a video soon that will talk more about my experience with it in the field. I was really impressed with this camera (even more after shooting with it more). I personally don't use the continuous shooting very much because I am a portrait photographer. However speed is worth mentioning because for some (sports photographers) it is very important.

    Thank you so much for opening this channel Jeremy. I really enjoy your reviews a lot. Also the new lessons for beginners seem to be pretty nice. Overall an awesome channel. Keep on that amazing work mate! Subbed.

    You would change aperture in video mode primarily to change depth of field. A wider aperture (smaller f-number) would allow you to have a sharp subject against a blurry background.

    I agree with you about the lock switch, I never had a problem bumping the dial on the D80, D90, or D7000. After a long shoot this weekend I got a bit aggravated with it. I got used to it though, I usually just stick to one mode anyway. I personally don't miss the closing eyepiece...I never use it on my D700. Cameras need to be fully customizable for all us picky folks haha

    Thanks Jeremy, you don't know how may times I've walked into Best Buy just to hold this camera in my hands, I even took a sd card in to take some sample shots, (they thought I was nuts) picture quality is phenomenal. I will wait then and hope aperture and dust issues are worked out. Thanks again!

    I should have some photos ready to show off soon. I have done one simple test comparing it to the D700 from ISO 1600 up to ISO 25,600. It looks pretty much the same only the D600 has more detail because of the increase in resolution. As far as controls go just remember it basically has D80, 90, 7000 controls. It is lacking the control layout of the D200, 300, 700, 800 etc. It's a bit hard to categorize but don't forget even though it's full frame it is still a "midrange" dslr.

    The next part is coming soon, Holiday time has been monopolizing my time. Focusing and recomposing is easiest way, however it doesn't work so well if you like to shoot at wide apertures. As far as the dust is concerned I have seen only a small amount number of cases first hand. I haven't come to any solid conclusions yet...

    While I did not point it out here I am aware of holding the shutter button in quite mode. Even then my point is valid, the sound does occur for a longer period of time. Have you ever used the Canon quite mode, specifically the quiet mode found on the 5D3? Held shutter button or not Nikon's implementation pales in comparison, the Canon is silent without increasing the duration of the sound. It can even be used during continuous shooting...

    thanks you for the advice, this really gives me something to think about, because there is nothing wrong with my d700, only IF d600 is better, then i might switch.Keep us posted J. Cheers!!!

    I agree it is a better buy. I just wanted to point out that the D7000 despite it's advancements isn't considered a pro cam. While I love full-frame I still hope NIkon and Canon bring us a new pro level crop-sensor cam :)

    Hi J, Thanks for the vids, i do have a question for you. i own a D700, should i sell it of now & buy the d600? Prices are good now for me to let go, i am afraid if i wait any longer and if this camera is a hit and maybe my d700 used price value will go down even more. My concern is that i love my d700, i dont shoot video, i love taking potraits. what do you say this vs the d700? Thanks in advance, hoping to hear from you soon.
    Bob.

    ... wait so (I've always wondered this too), are these actually your own cameras - or do you just borrow them from Bedfords for the videos?

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  12 лет назад

    The Canon certainly has the advantage in video. For still photography the auto focus system alone would make me go with the Nikon...

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  12 лет назад

    I agree, it is a deal breaker for me also. I found it very odd especially since they included uncompressed video out. Personally I will go with the D800, may as well just keep using the D7000 for video.

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  12 лет назад

    @dragos495 Yes you right it is meant to be held. However held shutter button or not the same fact remains....it doesn't work terribly well. Give the quitet mode on the Canons (5d3) a to sometimes it works extremely well :)

    I just bought this camera from a D7000. I loved my D7000 and also love the D600. One thing though the lock button on the mode control is doing my head in !! I would have loved the camera even more if it had a view finder black out switch.

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  12 лет назад

    I was trying to make the same decision as you, I too have a D700 right now. While the increase in resolution and addition of video is welcome I am going to stick with the D700. The biggest reasons reasons for me is the af systems and the controls. I am also not very fond of SD cards, I plan to keep the D700 as secondary and add the D800. The biggest thing I found annoying with the D600 for portraits is that the 39 af points are much more centralized. As I shoot more I will report back.

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  11 лет назад

    To be technical the D7100 would actually be better in terms of macro (slightly more depth of field). However if you are going to use the camera in low light at higher ISO settings (1600 ISO and above) you will see a difference going with the D600.

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  12 лет назад

    The video in the camera is very high quality. Problem is to have the same level of adjustment in video you have to go to the D800. If I were choosing between this and the 5d mark II for video I would go for the 5d mark II.

    The idea of nikons quiet mode is actually so that you hold the shutter down then release it afterwards away from the subject

    Hey Jeremy, first of all great review! I've been looking at getting the D600, but I'm also thinking about the 5D MK2. The price of the MK2 has dropped significantly. I've read a lot of reviews about the D600 and from what I've read, most people love it. Now for my question, since I only shoot portraits and landscape, which one would you recommend? Oh and I might use the video features too. Thanks!

  • @dragos495
    @dragos495 12 лет назад

    the quiet mode, which you did not know how to work, is clever. you push the button, and keep it pressed, and release it when you are "away" from your "subject". thats the main sound that you hear, the second part. by using this, that sound is delayed by you. :)

    Hello Jeremy thank you for a great review I bought mine today after waiting so long, I am very happy with this camera as everyone else I just had a comment on your review if you don't mind, about the shooting speed and the frame per seconds, how many time do you find your self using your camera in 5 frames per second? not much right? I think it's the same for all except a few of course so I agree with the manufacture on this one. thanks again for the good work!

    Nice video Jeremy- I have the D7100 and it is wicked sharp. Probably helps not having the AA filter. I can't imagine the D600 being any sharper. l find the D7100 is clean up until 2000 ISO but usable past 3200.

  • @JeremySmithPhotography
    @JeremySmithPhotography  11 лет назад

    Unfortunately I have seen my fair share of D600's dust issues. It's very frustrating that Nikon hasn't even admitted that there is a problem. I will be making a video about this specifically soon. If you want a D600 my suggestion is to wait a few months before buying. Hopefully all the affected cameras will be out of the supply chain soon.

    the d7000 shots 6fps full raw and stays at 6!! the d300s slows down to 2.5fps at full raw!!! not sure on jpeg but i think the 7000 will shot alot longer while the 300s doesnt! af locks on and fires great on both.. money wise the 7000 is surly the better dx buy!! good review keep it up spymit!! tc

    mr smith, where is the d600 review and field test? second, other than recomposing your photo, how would you compensate for the d600's clustered focus points? third, have you heard about the dust issues? i feel it may limit some of my street photography.

    Hey, thanks for the vid. Really good and informative. Do you know about the problem Nikon D600 is having now? Is it worth to buy Nikon D600 due to its problem? I don't know myself what is the problem but I would like to know if you would recommend D600 buying this time. Cheers.

    • @JeremySmithPhotography
      @JeremySmithPhotography  10 лет назад

      Nikon did have a lot of issues with the D600 related to an abnormal amount of dust on the image sensor. Apparently this issue has to do with the shutter mechanism; currently Nikon has been replacing the shutter mechanisms of all affected D600 bodies. I personally own a D600 and have sent it in for a shutter replacement and that seems to have taken care of the issue. If you have any doubts my recommendation would be to buy the updated D610 model as those do not suffer from any of the D600 issues.

    You're meant to keep the button held down on quiet mode, and then release at a later time or location. There is no point in setting it off as a single shot. Surely someone giving a review would know its purpose and how to use it.

    hi spymit
    1st of all sorry for my bad English that's my 2nd language.
    i have a Nikon d7000 and I'm looking to upgrade to full frame camera with a capability to shoot video as pro as 5D mark ii ... so ...
    does D600 have a movie setting like canon. ( brightness,contrast, etc.? )
    dose have a fully video setting adjustable ? like 5D mark ii ??
    thanks

      After using this camera more (I now own one) I don't find the AF to be an issue at all. Because I don't get as much AF coverage I don't use this camera with my 14-24 lens but that's the only downside. I will be talking about this more in a future update.
