I graduated as profesional photographer 5 years ago, and unfortunately the camera my father gave me for my graduation a D7100 got it stolen at one of my first commissions. Just two weeks ago after all this time I bought a Nikon D600. I feel like a complete person again. I tried to use my iPhone pro max as camera all this years but having a real camera back in my hands makes me feel alive again.

I bought a second hand D600 about a month ago now, for around 330 EUR, including 1 year warranty. I love the camera. No shutter oil issues here. The camera is a joy to work with and the results are, for a camera of over 12 years old, still stunning. It's a serious upgrade compared to the D70 I had before. The D600 renewed my love for photography that had been slumbering for a few years unfortunately.

@@Mr50mmish It absolutely is. I could recover some lenses I still had lying around from my old F80 (which I also used at my D70) which made it a no brainer to invest in, compared to a new mirrorless fullframe option. I hope this one can serve me for another decade. ;-)

I bought a new D600 when they first came out. It had the oil spots and I sent it to Nikon for cleaning but the oily goo came back after a short while. By the time I sent it back for a second time the D610 was out so Nikon sent me a new 610 and that solved all my issues. It has worked flawlessly ever since. I have every Nikon I’ve ever bought since my first one a: D70. Sometimes I; “get out the old camera” and shoot it for a day or so for kicks. The D610 never fails to bring a smile to my face. The D6 is especially wonderful, as is, the D800e. I find the portraits of people are outstanding to this day. Thanks for the review.

I have an early D600 that did develop the oil spot issue and I sent it back for Nikon shutter replacement. I have put close to 100,000 frames through it since the service and all is good and it is still going strong. If buying used look inside the tripod screw socket on the bottom of the camera and if you see black Sharpie marker inside the screw socket then it has had the shutter replaced.

For example, I traded a D750 because I always disliked its blue and green tones and I spent way too much time adjusting those colors in post. With Fujifilm I don't even touch the HSL much. You are very concise in your summation of this great camera. The top and back plate is magnesium alloy with the rest being mainly polycarbonate but tough as a squirrels 🐿️ nuts 🥜. The pictures from it are outstanding and make it one of the best cameras Nikon has ever made. I got my one in 2012 at launch with the kit 24 to 85 mm lens and battery grip and it fits like a glove. I am only a simple enthusiast photographer who just loves taking photographs , but have never experienced the oil spot problem touch wood. I can imagine that the D700 is an amazing piece of kit it has legendary status. Thank you for your review. I’m not convinced that D600/D610 is a clear winner over D700. A couple of practical differences that make D600/D610 better: AutoISO implementation, Active D-Lighting now works with Contrast. But D700 feels like a different kind of beast. It has a dedicated AF-ON button, it has 1/8000s shutter speed it is a more solid body.
I used D610 as my only camera for 8(?) years, and I have it along with a D700 with me now.
To me, the best bargain on a full-frame Nikon is a D3/D3s. Now, these beasts are from a different league altogether.

I have a D700 and I have a D3S. The truth is that although they say that the sensor is similar between both cameras, yes both have 12 MPX but they are worlds apart. The D700 generates soft and deep natural colors, achieves tones that I do not see in other cameras. Editing the D700 files is easy and the editing is minimal. As it is "soft" sometimes you have to barely touch the contrast and intensity if, for example, there is a very cloudy sky. On the other hand, the D3S generates files that even for my taste are quite warm, saturated and contrasted. RAW files already look edited when you first see them. I can simulate in editing making a D700 files like a D3S, but I can't do the opposite. Since the D700 is so special, I wonder whether to buy the D600 or have another D700 as a backup.

The D600 does have a prosumer body, which is from the D7000, simply. It also does have the D7000 (2010) DX 39-AF Point system, build into the FX D600/D610 bodies - hence therefore, the AF points are more crammed into the middle - after all, it's a 24 MP FX (35mm, or "fullframe") Sensor for sure - but handycap'ed lightly with the DX AF system - the 51 Point AF FX AF is faster, better than this. Albeit, i do enjoy shooting my D7000 with my 16-85 VR in particular, too. For my taste, 12 MP is way plenty, i don't shoot street ads, billboards, and i do rarely crop - for real. Therefore, even 6 MP DX via D70s/D40 (3000x2000 pixel) is sufficent, for at least DIN A3 prints here. With 12-16 MP, i've made 120x80cm on Canvas, for friends & family, a few ones during the years, and noone, nobody complained about resolution. The keypoint here is called viewing distance. No pixels visible, when planted onto the wall.

@@mistergiovanni7183 Just right. Into the end, it's all about the composition, and quality of light. Nobody does care, which gear one used for creating picture xyz.
You don't ask the chef which brand of pots he used - because the food tastes so good. It's exactly the same. You can take great photos (image composition wise) with any camera, even with a 35mm disposable film camera and single Miniscus lens.
Pixel peepers are not being photographers. Of course there are always people who have a >4-10k camera setup - I've also seen this into various forums, especially DPR. And then they simply use it to photograph cats or shoes, “peeping” F1.4 fixed focal lengths at 300-400% in the far corners to find all kind of optical flaws and defects.
I don't watch images at 100, or even 200, or more percent, ever. I watch the whole picture. These are gearheads, not photographers. No offense intended. For myself, photography is a life time hobby, and you get sometimes an image right, the way you've visualized it into your mind's eye - but only sometimes.
I also like certain cameras more than others. But I use many brands, not “the One”.

I have 2, D600 bodies and they work out just fine. The trick to getting a good used one is to look for a shutter count between 5K and 10K. Any shutter / sensor problems would have manifested by then. The D700 does live up to the hype. If you want the D700 experience but a much lower price, try a D300 APSC camera. You can get one in great shape for $120 to $150. The D300 is the best deal for a used camera out there. I have 7 of them because you just can't get enough of a good thing.

I see two differences. The CCD camera has an orange cast (or the CMOS has a blue cast) since those are the complementary colors, approximately. The other difference is due to the color depth of the new sensor. Imagine a camera that can show two shades of blue and a camera that can show two million shades of blue. When you use the two million shades of blue camera, you can smoothly transition from slightly blue clear to blue so deep it looks black and see no dividing lines. With the two color rendering camera, you will see the light shade of blue and then the dark shade of blue with a sharp dividing line. Of course it is not as extreme in the real world case. On DXOMARK, the Portrait score is color depth. For the D600 the score is 25.1 and for the D200 it is 22.3 (photons to photos gives the exact same measures), and these numbers represent the number of bits in color rendition that are discernable. In the bokeh, the colors are very similar in many places, so you are seeing banding due to three fewer bits of color depth.

@17:10 I am not sure I would call it 'hype' (as it does it for real); I have both a 750 and a 700 and I mostly use the older cam - the 750's images are essentially boring. Nothing wrong with them. They clean up good. But it lacks a soul somehow, and the jpeg modes you can install in the 700 from NikonPC do not color or tone the same way in the 750 - I would agree the 700 has slower AF, but I would not say the 750 is fast enough - a lot of the time it lags annoyingly. I use Sonys for real speed - but again, they have no soul either! That's why we need lots of cams of course.
The D600 is only a little cheaper than the 750 and about the same as the 700 (2-300 dollars)
If I did not have my Sonys, or my Nikons and had to start from scratch again right now, I would probably buy a D4 or maybe a D500 - you might note I did not select a mirrorless; they're good and capable and all that, but man are they boring. Feelingless. lol

but reviewers keep saying about the contrast detecting autofocus in d600 is no good in low light, so im worry hahaha.
those 2 prices almost similar in here, but 5d mk2 only has 1 card, but if d600/d610 has better autofocus, i probably will be buying d600.
thx you for your reply sir.

Don't listen to people who tell you the focus system of the 5dii is junk. Yes, the outer points are not good, but man, that center point is very very good. In low light is where the difference will depend on which lens you attach. So the question you should be asking yourself is, what glass am I going to get with my budget. That D600 will struggle in low light when not using the AF assist lamp & using glass that is not top notch.

      @@alwynsmit3546 im planning to go with 50mm f1.8 and 35mm f2.
yeah the autofocus in low light got me worry too hahaha
i can do focus and recompose, learning with my old 450D, i can manual focus too because the kit has broken autofocus so for years im in manual.
my daily camera is nx300 with kit lens and em5 mk2 with kit lens hahaha i know the limit of their autofocus.
this is why im concern about the autofocus of 5d mkii and d600 because i never shot with full frame before.
im leaning a bit to d600 because it has dual memory card slot.

I disagree with the AF being a BIG step up from the D90. I owned a D90 & a D7000. The D7000 is the same AF module as the D600, just adjusted for FX. With my D90 I rarely struggled with focus. When I got the D7000, I valued the 39 points up from the 11 in the D90. But that's where the awesomeness ended. In low light especially, the D7000 struggled & even shooting a subject in shade, would prove difficult for the D7000. People often think the number of focus points matter most, but that's not the case here. If Nikon did better with the AF, the D7000 would have gone down in history as the best APS-C body ever & the D600 would have been even nearer to perfect.

    • @Mr50mmish
      @Mr50mmish  2 месяца назад

Odd. Is it possible there was something funky with your D7000? It's not just number of points that's up, the number of cross type points and their distribution make it pretty useful compared to AF modules that only have the 1 centre cross type. Now I do admit I don't tend to massively tax the AF modules when I shot as it's a lot of fairly static objects and I'm not shooting sports lately. So I'm probably not the best example of a AF stress tester. That said when using the D200 (same AF module as the D90) I don't have a problem with that either, but I haven't directly compared AF performance. The only difference is that I am more comfortable using the D600's cross type sensors around the module. That said maybe I should have a better look at MultiCam1000!

@@Mr50mmish I had three different bodies. Yes, THREE. As you said yourself, you're not the best example of AF stress testing it. Now, I'm not saying it is totally unusable. What I am saying is, it was unreliable in low light without the AF assist lamp & even then, it wasn't perfect. It had a beautiful sensor & so does the D600, but Nikon really messed up with that AF system. Heck, they even put that in the DF. Also a beautiful sensor. I'm just not a fan of that AF module.

    • @Mr50mmish
      @Mr50mmish  Месяц назад

I would say it is. The 24MP sensor is still very competitive with current sensors especially in scenarios where your doing controlled lighting and the body's AF system is great on static well lit subjects. The only thing that might be a concern is if 24mp isn't enough. I generally would think your good unless the images are going to be reproduced at a very large scale while simultaneously meant to be viewed pretty close.

@@solomonuptonjubber8059 you might need to be more specific there. But I'd probably want to stop down for good depth, some generally even lighting to start off then another less diffuse light to add in some depth.
Product photog is all about the lighting, or mostly about that anyways.

"...but now it costs less than the D700!" Sorry dude, this is pure click bait B$. The D600 & D610 is always being more expensive, than the D700. And not being as robust as that. The D610 from 2012 always had an issue with the oily shutter mechanism, therefore it was 2013 fastly being replaced by the D610.

    • @Mr50mmish

Is it though? Average prices for the D700 have consistently been higher than the D600/D610 as of drafting this video from what I can see both on eBay and at retail locations.
Yes I did mention the shutter and it's replacement the D610. But even so I. Theory the D610/D600 is a lower their camera but both systems had the same rated shutter life and technically they are weather sealed to a similar level the main difference is the control layout on the D600 is considered less pro and the shutter itself isn't as fast 1/4000 vs 1/8000.
But here's an example you can find of the prices at retail stores.
      www.henrys.com/used-nikon-d700-dslr-body/5637221162.p?srsltid=AfmBOorIzOsHYvAF05Xu5bxDNqIoKo7lbEvQgiam8p0GiB72jXFQZMSD&color=Black&size=NIKON+F&style=7

      The D700 priced higher.
If you look at KEH they also price similar condition D600s lower than. D700s.
Additionally even if you consider launch prices D600 was also lower than D700, 2100 vs 3000.
