Lon's knives are really good; one of my favorite knives to sharpen and use. Always wanted to stop by the shop :) 11:50 this is why I turned around at blade and made that first video with Lon. I told him you really have something there
Well, I've been sniffing around after his blades for a little while now. I think it's time to pull the trigger. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. It was an absolute joy to watch Mr. Humphrey work.
Awesome video. I find the entire process of Lon making his knives fascinating. Thanks Lon, Cassie, and Rob for bringing us along, I really enjoyed watching.
@24:08 What you see is a "bird's beak" needing to be ground off,... I see as a potential in smaller knives, and with further refinment, as a "built in" camping FORK! A new model, possibly? It's a knife; it's a fork; it's a Lon Humphrey "Knork"! 🙂 By the way, the forged in finger guard was long used by the following bladesmith, and I loved that design feature so much I once owned about a dozen examples in various handles and slight variations. (I'm down to 4 as I recall) I altered one of my several Billie (S) Watson (not what is usually shown as Billy Watson, with a "Watson" script stamp). according to his obituary page in 2018 at age 95!). One of my 4 inch Eastern Hunter models had an exceptionally wide blade, and decided to have a fork cut into the original tip area, and then down cut under the fork into a spear point. Still cuts great, and when out camping just press on your steak to cut, and turn your hand to pick up and eat the meat, or potato chunks or wedges, etc. I also added a small cut-out "hook" on the forward part of the spine just behind the fork, to pick up a wire handled coffee pot off a campfire. Anyway, enjoyed the video and Robb's commentary,... OH, any chance you'll forge an approximately 1/8" lightweight hunter?
Lon makes great Knives! I have the custom sterling hunting knife. Green canvas micarta wood handle. Fantastic knife! I like the unique forging marks on the blade, every knife is unique. Thanks Lon.
Wonderful knife. It is a pleasure to see them work. He takes a simple knife and gives it personality and character for us to enjoy. Thanks for the work and the video. I am one of the people who would love to see and hear more about the heat treating etc. if you can.
Really liked the video. Would have been nice if Lon would have acknowledged Joe Keeslar who originated the finger guard design Lon is using in this video.
P., Thanks so much for showing Lon's work. Good commentary. You should do more featured spotlights of master knife makers like Lon, if feasible. I learned a lot.
I'd like to get my hands on one of his Gunfighter Bowie Knives, but they are so hard to nail down. UPDATE: December 2nd, 2019. Finally got a Gunfighter Bowie off DLT Trading. If you ever wanted one of them its time to act. They are going fast!
I have four of Lon's knives but I'm not a collector... I swear. (And I can quit anytime I want to.) ;) True, there are guys that have many more of Lon's knives but at four... I don't have tons of disposable income, if I have four of something they are badass users.

Finally got tired of sniffing myself and took a bite. Picked up one of his Gunfighter Bowies in Curly Maple with Black Liners. It's a beauty.

This video helped me pull the trigger on two from Lon and his wife! Thank you for making the video and helping put his name out there!

Great Video, always great to watch a craftsman at work. May need to pull some coins together and add one of these to my collection. Thanks Rob.
This video just sold me on a Lon Humphrey. Thank you for taking the time to make this happen.
Really like this guys knifes! Soon as I can gather up the change, I' m going to get a " Ranger" .
This is the coolest video I've seen on RUclips this year.

Wow! Loved every minute. What a nice couple. Heading over to KSF to have a look.
Wow I loved that video! Being able to see the process is quite inspiring.
Rob I enjoyed both of these thank you
Great Video, I have 10 or so of his knives from Whitetail to Reaver. It's nice to see how he makes them.
thanks rob! Thanks Mr. Humphrey
Awesome Video!! Love Lon's Knives
Wow.....simply wow!
What a wonderful, helpful wife.
Very interesting video. Would be cool if you did a video on how you put a choil on a folding knife in for sharpening.
Very cool blade. I've heard that belt sanders ruin the temper on knives due to the heat caused by intense friction.

Wow, great video! Ty both!
That knife is called what? So nice
Man, I've always wanted one of his blades...
The Reaver sure is a treat if you stick around to the end of the video.
Great video. Tell Lon he doesn't charge enough :)
Great vid. Great maker!
Great video! Thank you!
I was thinking, "Isn't that cheating!" Good trick!
