    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  3 года назад

      Hi Stefano thanks. I'm sure it will give you a shock but it can't be lethal. The high voltage generator is the same part that can be found on low cost, low power tasers. In fact I did not supply the full 12 V to the taser module, only a mere fraction of its full power. You find videos of people getting taser shots a lot powerful than this and they just walked away laughing.

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  3 года назад

      hi. do you mean the duty cycle of the HV generator? Yes it is not very long. That means you cannot use this power supply for longer period of spraying. The HV generator is just a cheap Chinese product. I'm planning to make a better design using better materials soon.

  • @ronmieure8337

    when i ground the generator wires they both spark how do i tset to find the + wire or do i have a bad generator thanks nice video well done

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 года назад

      Hi Ron, YES you are correct, they both spark, but I try to select the one with the noticeably stronger spark among the 2 output wires. Because I assume that the 2 output of HV generator module has a neutral (not exactly negative) and a positive. The neutral point while disconnected will also build up charge thus spark may jump to the earth ground. Keep in mind that the earth ground is neutral, neither - nor +.

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 года назад

      You may try experimenting, swapping the 2 output connections and see which config works better at making the powder stick to the part. The taser module is sealed so no way to know exactly how they are wired.

    what if we hold the object in power on. is it okay to hold it like a factory made machine?

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  Год назад

      With the object connected to earth ground and the operator also connected to earth ground (usually through the metal frame of the gun held by bare hand) then there is no potential voltage difference and so it is OK to hold it without getting shocked. You can check out this video where you can clearly see the earth ground connection to the gun:

    Hello , I did exactly as you demonstrated. However my plan was to convert my existing 110V gun to one with these components so that it works on 220V . Everything worked perfectly fine when i checked the circuit without final assembly.. The positive output was connected to the central conductor of the existing gun. The other output of the voltage generator was connected to the existing connection where the negative output was joined to the mains ground and also to the ground from the metal object to be powder coated. Upon pressing the foot switch , there was a spark from the power supply which immediately blew up .' The Buck converter also blew up !!! Didnt know what happened !!!!! Can you please guide what exactly happened ?? I shall be obliged . Thanks

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  2 года назад +1

      @@talwarjatin No. I had tried reversing the HV output but nothing broken. It is isolated from the low voltage input. The HV generator module will drain more than 2.5 amp, that overloaded your 12v, 2Amp supply that is why it sparked. I think the fried power supply is what killed the buck converter.

    whats stopping you using a car ignition coil , they go from 10,000 to 40,000V with only 12v input.

    • @DIYPhil
      @DIYPhil  11 месяцев назад

      Hi. I made a video about using a motorcycle ignition coil which is very similar to car ignition coil and it will definitely work. I have seen some working examples. The output of the ignition coil alone will not work because it is AC, it still have to go to a rectifier to generate DC output to create a static charge. The main drawback of that setup is the size and that it will only work at low frequency. Ionizing the air and charging the powder is more efficiently done with higher frequency. Here is a link to that video:
