you realize that this is the pre-dragonslayer sword not the actual dragonslayer. that may be bad but trust me, if they were really going to make the actual dragonslayer they would need all the steel in the shop to make it.
They should at least make a hollow Dragonslayer, that way it'd weight way less. Or give it an aluminium core, like they did on season one with the Buster Sword from FFVII. That would work and be pretty badass.
Now if only that WAS the dragonslayer sword that they made. That is only his greatsword from the Band of the Hawk arc. Also known as "His little sword."
SpooklordNito The Dragonslayer is not meant to be wieldable. It is mentioned many times in the manga that human's aren't supposed to be able to wield it, which is why by-standers always look on in awe and shock when they see that Guts (the protagonist of Berserk) can wield the thing so well. It would be tremendously more valuable if Man-at-Arms made an authentic Dragonslayer that is to the exact specification of the sword in the manga as it could be seen as the genuine article, and not some cheap imitation that has no value at all.
WackySwacky I know about the sword dude. I love Berserk. I'm just saying it would be pointless to make it, which you supported by saying that really only Guts can wield it. They had to get two people for the Buster sword. Dragonslayer Sword? They'd need a crane to pick the thing up
@@karlvareze8337When Godot was talking about sparks, guts still wielded this sword, and it was this one that he was fixing. I’m pretty sure we’ve only seen godot work on the drangonslayer once.
Wait, "Pre-Dragonslayer"? Why not make dragonslayer? *Looks it up* OH. RIGHT. I forgot about that. Christ, you guys did an amazing job with this monstrosity of a blade. I wish I could get my hands on something like this, though it'd be more useful for strength training than fighting.
If they wanted to make the dragonslayer, they would of had to take the whole railway track, and then some, gone to one of those industrial forge processors that make tank plating, then have to hand design the LARGEST angle grinder and quench tank made for sword forging ever. It would of been impossible, even for the most skilled smithing team.
TheGreatYukon its not for fighting in the sense of slashing and dashing, its meant for smashing bone and literally bisecting opponents. this is a one-hit-wonder kind of weapon, meant to either kill or cripple your foe in one blow
Alright, as I been requesting Dragonslayer since your first episode... I am VERY pleased with his "original" sword. I can imagine that the real Slayer would be damn near impossible. This Berserk fan is very pleased. WELL DONE!
Really puts to perspective how strong Guts really is and how extraordinary he is. His main weapon throughout the entirety of Golden Age is already a feat to behold.
That was a fantastic build and you guys deserve all the credit in the world. As a Berserk fan I give you all nothing but respect. (However, we still want to see THEE Dragonslayer in the future if possible.)
the thing that impresses me most about this sword is that even despite the size of it, and the thickness of the blade, it still manages clean cuts in the demo at the end. Oh also Tennessee wet forging is my new favorite method
There is no way they could make the Dragon Slayer to scale. Not with the usual way they make stuff. That thing is far too big and heavy. The only models I have seen made are smaller, (much thinner) copies, like what michaelcthulhu did. Even this blade is smaller than the one in the manga. It is thinner at its widest, and already it is the largest blade they ever did. They made it clear that making the pre-dragonslayer blade was to date one of the most dangerous processes they have ever done. Be glad they even did this much.
Berserk creator, Kentaro Miura, has died aged 54 on May 6. Pls make some homage for this legendary creator. Maybe de true Dragon Slayer, or the Berserk Armor
My Profile Picture is by Hatomame, will all you perverts stop asking Wouldn't that be the point though? Since in the manga, Dragonslayer was mocked for its size and how its impossible to use by anyone.... that is untill GUTS picked it up.
deadmanslastwish the thing is, Godo forged it as a joke. they told him it needed to be able to slay a dragon, they said nothing about the fact that a human needed to be able to wield it. so Dragonslayer itself is litterally there because Godo woke up with a case of the fuckarounds that morning. Dragonslayer weighs like 600 pounds. noone ever could wield it. the physics just aren't there. having said that, Berserk is my favorite manga of all time, so I dont give a shit.
Tristan Berke Well, he made it as much a criticism to fancy pancy blacksmiths as a joke. Like, all these guys trying to make overly stylised nobleman blades, and then he drops a truthbomb. Also, I don't think it could quite account for 600 pounds with its measurements. Still, with its length, it would definitely start swing guts around if he slashed with it at a decent speed
+mark tenenbaum soo braking your arm every time you swing somthing and hit a solid obleckt that did not realy cut thru and then have the armor repare your arm by twisting and turning and messing up your arm? but no worrys the armor doesent let you feal pain and it will make you go crazy
He probably hates doing berserk at this point. Besides the golden age arc is the peak of the series (And honestly one of the greatest pieces of manga ever made. Ever.)
absolutely, I wouldn't listen to the complainers, I was actually happy to see this weapon over the dragonslayer because that weapon is basically just a huge hunk of metal. Gutz first weapon, is a MUCH better weapon to see made. Kids will complain and have no idea how much work goes into this.
***** The video does elaborate on the work going into the sword. I'd rather see the dragonslayer just for the sheer stupidity of scale. Kids complain about everything from wanting new technology to better/cheaper chemotherapy drugs so they don't go bankrupt paying for the good stuff. I always pat their heads and tell them to wait, you can't rush science.
I can imagine the reactions of some of the original creators of these weapons after seeing it in real life. I'd love to see Kentaro Miura's (creator of Berserk) reaction to this sword.
What an amazing job, I hope you guys display that proudly in the shop. I've watched a bunch of videos of people making swords from Berserk, so far you're the only ones to take a single piece of iron and turn it into this ridiculous blade.
I'm torn... I am a huge fan of you, guysm and I am a huge fan of Berserk. I applaud you for going with the idea of using a railroad. It was the right decision, and your end result was beautiful. Again, I feel nothing but respect for you, guys, but as I am sure many many dissapointed fans have and will points out.... that is NOT the dragonslayer sword. You guys made the sword he uses in the anime, which I will say is definitively more useful as a weapon. The dragonslayer was never meant to be used by normal human beings, and that is part of its history. It is described as "a long slab of black iron, which could not be called a sword", and I agree with that description. You made a beautiful job of making Guts' sword from his younger days. I loved it. Just.... rename the video to Berserk Sword or Band of the Hawk sword, and the fans will (or should) shut the fuck up. Beautiful sword guys, beautiful work. I do not think it is possible to actually forge the dragonslayer. Its a weapon of fantasy meant to be a weapon of fantasy. It is even mentioned several times that it would take half a dozen men to wield it. Thanks for the beautiful effort. You made a beautiful sword. Cheers!
Again, thanks for the beautiful work. I hope you guys watched the anime and/or read the manga for this, and became fans. If you did, I would be happy to welcome you into the "waiting for a new chapter" community of Berserk. And remember kids, we've ONLY been 8 YEARS IN THE GODDAMN BOAT
Christian Erazo The Description says pre-dragonslayer so it was one of the swords guts used during the golden age arc. Ive been waiting for this manga to finish for 12 years already and I feel sorry for the people who have waited like 20 years
OF COURSE THEY CAN'T R-E-A-L-L-Y DO THE ACTUAL DRAGONSLAYER; IT'S TOO BIG AND TOO HEAVY; IT'S LIKE A GIANT SLAB OF IRON; THE BIGGEST SWORD EVER USED IN COMBAT WAS ONLY 16 pounds!!
False, a claymore of 10kg was used in battle by a certain clan but historical accounts. But still that’s nowhere near the size of this or dragon slayer.
Man this great video really takes me back, especially since RUclips just recommend this to me 6 years later after hearing about the tragedy. RIP Miura for making this amazing series.
Lots of people are confused about what sword was forged. Guts actually has wielded 6 or 7 different swords throughout the manga. The design they based this build off of was Guts' sword he used during his time as a Commander for the Band of the Hawks. It was also the sword he used in the 100 man fight where it was damaged. It never really had an official name. He stopped using this one after it broke towards the end of the golden age. After that he switched a more regal looking greatsword (which was only ever shown to be used in the 2nd Griffith fight). This is not the blade he used before the eclipse and is not the Dragonslayer.
Drewsafox I was actually looking forward to Zodd's blade and nearly shat myself when I read the title, opened it and realized what it really was, than nearly cried...
They referenced Berserk in Dragon's Dogma by having Guts' and Griffith's armor and weapons available. There, they called this one Thousandlimbs, which sounds pretty cool.
Fans: "Make the Dragonslayer" Video intro: "Comments asking for the Dragonslayer" First thing he says: "You asked for it, and we managed a way to do it" What they did: "Not the DragonSlayer" OK....
Ludicris No, someone made a much thinner version. Even michaelcthulhu said that if it was a 1:1 replica, it wouldn’t even be possible to pose with it, which was the purpose.
@Sanguine Regis No it's not, realistically it should weigh approximately 20 kilos, and if you dont know, even the bigger swords used in medieval times were 4 kilos at max.
@New Shadez He said that maybe the dragon slayer weighs more than 400 pounds, where in the manga it is stated that the sword weighs approximately 400 pounds. Then i added the information that if someone was to make a dragonslayer sword it will weigh approximately 20 kilos. I wasnt talking about the sword in this video either.
Matt Stagmer I'm impressed, I gotta say. You guys aren't afraid to go big and ridiculous! xD Unlike that OTHER blacksmith! ;P (He was still pretty cool though. Made me fall in love with damascus builds.)
***** Dude, in the comic the Dragonslayer is like 3x this size. I'm just happy getting this one, which doesn't have a name, but is called Thousandlimbs in Dragon's Dogma and that's pretty cool.
***** That's not how the series ends. The anime does, but the manga goes much farther than that. Unfortunately, Kento Miura hasn't made any new chapters in like 10 years, so us loyal readers are stuck at 337.
rubberkidney Huh. Okay, I didn't know that. I guess I'm not a "loyal reader" in that I've only started reading this year, and using a shitty manga app on my phone. But that seems a bit harsh, bud.
rubberkidney in the years 2011 and 2012 only 2 volumes came out. 337 was the only chapter, not even volume to come out in all of 2014. It's almost 7 months into 2015 and there's still no new chapters. It's ground to a fuckin halt.
I agree! I bet they could make a beautiful Typhoon Swell. They'd just need to include the hidden tanto and use something that mimics the grip's white sharkskin cover.
*_Amazing._* They did not just make something of similar shape, they actually made a usable sword. Imagine what the blacksmith in the manga had to go through without the advanced technology these guys had. Must have costed Guts a ton of money to convince the blacksmith to do it.
+extragirth64 it was preforged before Guts had come along, it's actually how it got the name "Dragonslayer", its original purpose was to slay a Dragon, but due to how it was built, no soldier could actually wield, except for Guts, who was given it after saving the Blacksmith's adopted grand daughter from a demon, thus replacing the sword made here as Guts's Primary weapon
yeah not to spoil the fun... but thats the wrong sword you made there... this is the sword Guts used before he got Dragonslayer... i dont think that sword even has a name... Dragonslayer is like 4 times the seize of that thing... and i dont think a normal person could even lift let alone swing that monster... nice sword tho nevertheless
EXACTLY! The clip shows maybe 2 scenes of the Dragonslayer and the rest is the sword broken in one of the battles (where Griffis fucks the King that fucked him some time in the past). Dragon slayer is the GIGANTIC SWORD. The guy above has one translation of the quote but the meaning was that it couldn't be called a sword, it was just massive chunk of metal, it didn't have to be sharp just the mass of the sword plus the velocity while Guts was swinging it mate it deadly. It just ripped apart the armor, crushed into shreds. This sword and later in the manga his armor are the definitions of the the Guts character, swordstyle. This sword was just beggening, he used it but it wasn't Dragonslayer.
i think that's why they made this one and not the other they did say the posses alone was dangerous think how much danger they would be making one 4 times bigger?
mars god o war yeah I understand why they didn't made this ridiculesly huge sword... But then they shouldn't call it dragonslayer when it just isn't dragonslayer
Yeah, the anime follows the flashback that happens right after he gets the Dragonslayer. Somebody on reddit worked it out here: i.imgur.com/muzn7bR.jpg Final weight would be close to 400lb.
I applaud you guys for this build, even if the weeaboos say that this is not the real dragon slayer (because the real one will be a giant slab of steel with no possible way to wield it) making it from a train rail was sick and amazing, you never stop to impress me. You really make fantasy become reality
Rewatching this in memory of Kentaro Miura just like a few others. RIP a legend and someone who, even in death, is helping me through a really tough time in my life.
Berserk was a fantastic anime with great characters and a great story line. I watched it a couple months ago, and when I did I instantly came here to ask for Guts' Sword, and they finally did it. Awesome!
***** Yea, I read some of it, but I haven't gotten back to it yet. The few chapters that I read were pretty good, so I will have to finish it sometime.
ItsPnutBJTime Well it could be argued that everything that happened in the anime was just the set up for the real series, as it takes a major turn. Worth the read, albeit it's eternally stuck out at sea and will never properly finish most likely.
josh Wilkerson you do know that the man reason he is on hiatus is because he was working on a smaller manga series and because of his health as he stated before so pls don't start taking the piss out of someone when you dont know there story
***** In the video it clearly states Guts' Pre-Dragonslayer. Meaning, One of the swords Guts used before the Dragonslayer. If you learn how to read properly maybe you could understand a lot of things.
If you remember the lore, Godo was commissioned to make a sword that could slay a dragon. However, he didn't believe dragons were real, so he made a weapon that couldn't be used to fight things that didn't exist. The mercenary great sword was actually a sword.
Despite the fact that this is NOT really the Dragonslayer sword, you guys did an AMAZING job!!! The real thing would not have been able to be forged in this type of realistic smithy. It's obvious to understand why it would be too difficult (If not downright impossible!) to make the REAL Dragonslayer. haha AWESOME job. :) This was so much fun to watch! THANK YOU!
Good. Nice warm up now do the giant Dragonslayer "That thing was too big to be called a sword. Too big, too thick, too heavy and too rough. It was more like a large hunk of Iron."
I'm Glad someone else knew that wasnt the dragonslayer . They just made his over sized Great sword which is nuts to begin with cause they difference in Gutz great sword and a normal one is normally a great sword is larger and thin to cut the weight almost around 10 to 14 pounds . Gutz Great sword is made as if it was intended to be a sword of that size so there is no cutting of weight if he was a giant it would look normal.
To be honest, I prefer the Golden Age Arc sword to the Dragon Slayer. So I really liked this build. Also, I've seen other build videos where they machined the whole thing, no disrespect to those other guys, but it was awesome to see an actual full tang *forged* blade. Kudos!
U guys should send out an invite to Brian Shaw , Hafthor and Eddie hall one day and have them swing these gargantuan sized weapons at some ballistic gel dummies or some animal carcasses... that would get 100k views no questions
I think the manga stated that the Dragonslayer weighs over 400 pounds... so making it is kind of impossible. Or is it? I CHALLENGE YOU MAN AT ARMS. DO IT.
It wasnt any old man, it was ... GODO! (Beside, it was when he was younger, he made the Dragonslayer for a King who wanted a weapon capable of dedeating a dragon -For some reason that king got mad since apparently he couldnt wield the Dragonslayer)
I know this is a little late but what were they going to do for the demo. Have a bobcat come and drop it on something! the actual dragon slayer in the manga is over 400 pounds!
@@Capmikqc The king wanted a weapon that could kill a dragon in one hit. Godo, having worked for the royal court for years, had grown tired of working for the noblemen, crafting delicate, ornately decorated rapiers that were effectively ceremonial set pieces incapable of withstanding the rigors of war. A contest to create a weapon to slay what was widely considered a fictional creature was the last straw, an insult to his craft that led to him making his own insult in the form of the Dragonslayer Greatsword, a massive slab of nearly-blunt iron that no man could lift, as such an impractical weapon was well suited to fighting an equally implausible being. The king, upon seeing the thing, nearly had him hanged, and Godo was forced to flee. Years later, he would live as an ordinary blacksmith, still keeping the iron slab on his back mantle as a reminder of his regrets. Then, Guts came by after the eclipse to seek a new weapon. Originally, Godo gave him a sword sharp enough to cut another sword. That sword promptly broke. Guts then grabbed the Dragonslayer and used it to slay an apostle, leading to Godo performing his last great act of blacksmithing by repairing the Dragonslayer and honing it into one of the most durable, most dangerous thing ever to exist, expectations of others be damned. In the end, when Godo died, it was with the knowledge that what was once his greatest embarrassment became his greatest triumph, a weapon that proved his ideals correct and would now carry his legacy long after his death.
MALICEM12 That's kinda why I want to see it done. I want to see a sword launched at things. If it's made, it would easily be one of the coolest weapons ever made.
41solstice25 I doubt they would do what it actually does in the game, plus I'm not too sure bullets work that way, but they could make it pneumatic and use like a small air compressor in the sheathe. As for the blade itself, it's just a katana with a red blade
Chris Mckain I'm sure projectileless canisters that fire and shortly eject from the side isn't that complicated of a mechanic. In fact, the difficult part would be making sure that it will launch the sword without blowing anything else out of proportion which would take some form of engineering of either internal suppression or a reliably safe ventilation of excess heat and force to assure nothing comes apart and nothing comes to any form of harm other than where the barrel of the sheath points. The issue to the idea of the quick draw worth is deploying the ready blade without injuring the hand using it. Either the blade itself will have to catch projected heat and force of the deployment with minor flaps along the back of the sword for reasons of cutting potential or the hand simply needs to be protected enough with the deployment launching by intense force upon the top of the hand guard. (As well as make the hand guard more durable.)
41solstice25 I'm not saying it's complex mechanic, I simply don't think a bullet has enough strength to propel a full sized sword that's locked in place, since a katana in the sheathe can be turned upside down and not fall out. A very high caliber round might be able to but I seriously doubt it. How heavy do you think a Barret .50 bolt is? 2 pounds? 3 maybe? And the round has enough force to gently push that back enough to cycle another round when fired. Could the recoil from that throw a possibly 10-15 blade back without exploding the sheathe? Probably now. Go pneumatic, it'll take the possible burning part from firing a bullet, as well as the possibility of turning your sheathe into a hand grenade should the sword not move or if the dust cover fails to open out of the equation. This is coming from someone who fires the M4/M16 on a regular basis.

I doubt he can swing it without falling over
So they don't have the _Guts_ to make a Dragonslayer...

+moonphase hd nearly 400 pounds of steel, impractical and impossible for any normal human to wield
They should at least make a hollow Dragonslayer, that way it'd weight way less. Or give it an aluminium core, like they did on season one with the Buster Sword from FFVII. That would work and be pretty badass.
isnt dragon slayer much larger than the buster sword?
You do know they'd actually like to use the blades they make right?

Now if only that WAS the dragonslayer sword that they made. That is only his greatsword from the Band of the Hawk arc. Also known as "His little sword."
Xelzeno It would probably be impossible without factory grade equipment.
If they actually made the Dragonslayer sword, it would just be an unwieldable, 400 pound hunk of iron
Lmao Fr they'd need a freaking machine to swing that shit
Sebadass MotM The True Dragonslayer is too big to be called a sword...it's simply a sharpened slab of metal.
maxspecs hah true, Like how they always mention it in the manga

Or to replace chopping wood with an ax given that you have the strength required.

Excellent work guys, as a huge Berserk fan, I loved this episode. You guys really put in the heavy lifting on this one. Well done!
***** thank you for not complaining like the rest of the fans seems to be doing
absolutely, I wouldn't listen to the complainers, I was actually happy to see this weapon over the dragonslayer because that weapon is basically just a huge hunk of metal.

It is truly a testament to your craftsmanship.

I agree! I bet they could make a beautiful Typhoon Swell. They'd just need to include the hidden tanto and use something that mimics the grip's white sharkskin cover.
I would suggest that too but they've already done enough katana style blades. It would be the same process during the video as all the others.
RIP Miura! A legend
*_Amazing._* They did not just make something of similar shape, they actually made a usable sword.
Imagine what the blacksmith in the manga had to go through without the advanced technology these guys had. Must have costed Guts a ton of money to convince the blacksmith to do it.
Godo literally did it for guts for free
ninjadog123
Guts must have offered some kind of support. That's insane to do such a thing for free.
The Blacksmith actually reforged the sword because Guts fucket it up by using against demons.
k but THAT'S IS NOT DRAGON SLAYER is mercenarie great sword. from golden age
yeah not to spoil the fun... but thats the wrong sword you made there... this is the sword Guts used before he got Dragonslayer... i dont think that sword even has a name...
But then they shouldn't call it dragonslayer when it just isn't dragonslayer
true
Yeah, the anime follows the flashback that happens right after he gets the Dragonslayer. Somebody on reddit worked it out here: i.imgur.com/muzn7bR.jpg Final weight would be close to 400lb.

U guys should send out an invite to Brian Shaw , Hafthor and Eddie hall one day and have them swing these gargantuan sized weapons at some ballistic gel dummies or some animal carcasses... that would get 100k views no questions
even tough this comment is 2 years old, i totally agree
I think the manga stated that the Dragonslayer weighs over 400 pounds... so making it is kind of impossible. Or is it? I CHALLENGE YOU MAN AT ARMS. DO IT.
brandonprows you couldn't wield it then
Something like dat, the only thing also said in da manga is dat whoever wields it would bring great misfortune
Not with that attitude you can't
not the golden age sword, it looks so... standard, plus gives some bad memories
LOOKING AT YOU, GRIFFITH!

Gigguk released Anime in 2014 part 2.
You guys made Dragonslayer.
This has already been an awesome day.
Oh....it's not the actual Dragonslayer. Still loved it but. :(
Ikr xD fucking finally.. Still better than Holden though xD
Hahahah
this was so wicked i must have that sword
Now you have to make Guts' second sword "The Dragon Slayer"
Too big to be called a sword
Yeah its just a heap of raw iron
sound like every person guts has killed lol
this is badass and all...but god dammit guys! you had me all stoked for the real dragonslayer!
#giveustherealdragonslayer
How do you expect them to do test cuts with a 6 ft 400 pound sword man lol I don’t think they have terminator on staff.
i remember being 10 watching this and all the videos. still watch them and only blacksmiths that are entertaining
If there's any time to do the Dragonslayer, now would be a good time
Man just thinking of the guy in the manga making this. Wasn’t it one guy who made the dragon slayer?
It was one guy. And not just any guy- an OLD MAN.
Sort of , he didn't make a accurate one but he did make one you can't actually carry around I think

The king wanted a weapon that could kill a dragon in one hit.
Jetstream Sam's sword and sheath from Metal Gear Rising!
The sheath to that may be a little tricky considering it has a modified gun attached to it for quick draw! XD but good choice all the same

That's kinda why I want to see it done.
Chris Mckain
I'm sure projectileless canisters that fire and shortly eject from the side isn't that complicated of a mechanic.
Well i here again
